RE: B+ motorhomes

We have not toured the Monaco plants, but have toured, Travel Supreme, Four Winds/Class A, Tiffin of course, Nexus ('11) and Phoenix Cruiser. Of all toured we found Phoenix to be lacking at that time ('03) hard to believe the prices they get for them now, at that time it seemed rather backward compared to others we had seen.

RE: B+ motorhomes

We went through the R-Vision Plant in Warsaw in 2003 when we were thinking of downsizing from our 28 foot Travel Master (plus we owned a Coachman 190 B at the time, which was way to small). The coaches we saw being built seemed to be well made for the price point. Then shortly touring several plants, we decided to go fulltime in a couple of years and bought the 37' Intruder, due to the ease of setup and added room. So in early 2004 we owned an A, B, & C class motorhomes.

RE: B+ motorhomes

Both our Damon Intruder and the Tiffin worked off the house battery since there isn't a radio/cd player found in the living area of the RV as in most Class "C" and trailers.

RE: B+ motorhomes

Just back from having the Cooper's installed. The new tires are "E" load range LT series. We had all seven replaced @ $1213 with new metal valve-stems, "fill-thru" metal valve-stem caps and braided "big truck" stem extentions from inside dual wheels. Now to figure out why the power windows work with the ingition off but the dash radio doesn't.

RE: B+ motorhomes

Hello all, we're full-timers who have just bought a "vacation rig". We've lived in our 2006 Tiffin Class A for the past 6+ years and 80,000 miles and have found out some of the limitations of a 40' diesel pusher pulling a toad. So after several years of shopping, we've bought a 2004 R-Vision Trail Lite 213. The main uses are for an Alaska trip next year, short visits to our kid's homes in Va & FL and some short trips in the summer. Nice little coach, great condition on the Chevy 6.0 chassis with 8400 miles and 20-03 dated tires that look perfect, but are leaving with-in the next week for a new set. I've got some caulking to upgrade and have already cleaned and treated the rubber roof (actually my wife "Scottiemom" did that). The TV has been changed out for a 22" LED and the TV cabinet area enclosed . BTW another upside of the B+, the 7 new Cooper tires will cost about the same as 2 of the 4 Michelin's we bough for the Phaeton last week. New belts, coolant, oil change and hoses are coming in the next month. Been watching this topic for about three years...lots of useful information.

RE: Interstate 80 road condition

Bob a.k.a. The Texan ... When leaving Elkhart, head North on SR19 to US 12 just North of the MI state line, then East to US131 at White Pigeon. At White Pigeon turn North on US131, continue North until US2 after the "Bridge". TURN LEFT or West on US2. This will take you to Idaho via 2 lanes, without going across the southern end of Lake Michigan, or detouring out of your way south, to US20 to IN2 to IL17 to IL47 to I80 or way down south to US24. When are you coming through Elkhart? We'll be here again before jumping off on our Alaska trip next May.

RE: Winter-ing the RGV?

We spend some time every winter in the Valley and feel it is comparable to SW AZ without the dust storms. Jan-Mar of 2012 we spent in Houston while I was undergoing treatment at MD Anderson, we had 11 nights during those months the park shut off the water and we picked up our hoses due to freeze warnings. That said, I didn't have to disconnect the hoses once from Nov thru March at out lot down in the Rio Grande Valley at Mission.

RE: Purchase of Damon Intruder

A 98 Damon Intruder was our 1st Class A. Very nice motorhome, our only problem was the "in-tank" fuel pump, a common problem on the Ford F-53 460 chassis in that era. $800 repair at a Ford Truck dealer in Kansas City while on a trip.

RE: Portable electric heater that doesn't burn out?

We've been using a Pelonis Ceramic Disc Heater for over 20 years without a problem. 1st in our home in a "cold" bathroom and now for 6 years in our motorhome as we fulltime. I saw one the other day in a hardware store for about $75.

RE: Got myself into trouble

I made a comment a few days ago that I thought I might like to get another motorcycle to ride. Last night the DW informed me that we were going to Sturgis in 2013, so I guess that was my hint to go buy a bike..:S.....Anyone have a nice, "reasonable priced" road bike or trike for sale...:h.....I priced trikes and WOW is all I can say....LOL Maybe you should get Betsy a gate to guard of her own, to pay for "her bike" for "her" trip and "you" can make sure it has a sidecar for you, Texan. BTW you know you're in big trouble if she's already bought the leather halter-top for the trip.

RE: Are Roller Blinds a good thing?

Switched out our day/night shades, which broke often with dual roller blinds from United Shade in Elkhart Indiana, last summer. Great product @ a much lower price than MCD. 9 blinds and the oak valances I built, ran over $1300. Much better than the over $4000 we would have had in MCD's and new locally fabricated valances. I case you are wondering about the valances, most RV day/night shade valances aren't deep enough for the dual roller shades without some modification.

RE: Value of a convenient overnight CG

If traveling, we usually are only looking for a power hookup, since we like to have all our systems w/o worrying about the batteries being drawn down by the inverter. We're very happy with a spot for under $20 per night. Last year with 3 months in Houston for medical treatment our nightly average expense for a spot to park was $15.54.

RE: CB Radio or Not

CB is always ready to be turned on if traffic or weather starts to look bad. We don't leave it on all the time, it's just a backup communication device. For under $100 not a bad thing to have.

RE: 50 Amp extension cord

As six year fulltimers, we've gotten along quite well with the 50' 30 amp cord we purchased for use with one of our previous RVs. Not that I would not like a 50 amp cord-set, but the weight and unwieldy nature of the "packaged" ones has put me off. "If" I were to really need one.. I would lean toward purchasing "all temperature" cable and the "yellow RV" ends and make my own. What little we're in "cold" weather, say 30° to 40° and fighting the RV's factory installed cord when unhooking, has made me think about changing it.

RE: Information Discussion for Gate Guards

Well, tomorrow Betsy gets to work our gate by herself. The Woods, on a gate off 97 west of Tilden, have a Drs appointment in CC, so I will cover their gate for the day. Supposed to be heavy rain, so could be an interesting day.....:B Kind of reminds me of Little Richard's "Slippin' and Slidin".

RE: New $50.00 membership fee for GS

As full timers, we haven't gotten one piece of Good Sam 3rd Class mail in several years, but I'm sure our mail forwarding service would prefer not having their dumpster filled several times a week. We do not pay to have "junk mail" forwarded.

RE: Who can help w/Sat Advice

We have the Traveler also, we switched from a KingDome. It works great, one button operation and you are up and running. Make sure it is a Directv unit since they are designed for each service and a Directv Traveler won't work with a Dish Network receiver as we were told by the installer . As I said it works great unless you have a minor obstruction like trees or our winter lot's RV canopy. Never hurts to have a portable dish with you, if paying for Satellite service..

RE: Ringtone halts NY Philharmonic performance

I love the "me" attitude about this. Don't tell "me" to turn off my cell phone, even if it may ruin the experience for a thousand others, because the world can't run without "me". Like I said, we quit going to theatres, because of these "me" people. You quit going to theaters because a cell phone may ring? :hNot "may", but did multiple times, the last 2X times we went, so no more. When I pay good money to see something and have to listen to phones ring and idiots hold conversations with their peeps, I'll pass. I'm in total agreement with the Texan, people are way to "important" to turn off their cellphones. Example: last week we had a park lot owner's meeting here in the Rio Grande Valley. The at the top of the agenda handout in large letters "Please TURN OFF Cellphones". The park president started the meeting with "please turn off your cellphone". During the hour long meeting 5-6 to cells were heard. Two of the calls were in the row behind me. These people are nothing more than inconsiderate jerks. If any call is that important to you stay out of meetings and "quiet" public places. What in the world is voice-mail for anyway?
