RE: School bus vs. HUMUNGOUS deer! OMG!

That's interesting about the seat belts, I've always been curious.

RE: pets in trailer

I think some of it depends upon how comfortable your dog is with the RV, and the campground. We stayed at one park in the National Forest in the Black Hills, and the poor dog was a basket case--so many unfamiliar scents and sounds. Now, after several years of RVing and a second dog, he's much more comfortable when we leave. We still try not to leave them alone for more than a couple of hours.
If you do want to take some time sightseeing, you can arrange doggie daycare or overnight care at a local vet's office or kennel, or make an appointment to have the dog groomed at a place where you can drop him off in the morning and pick up late in the afternoon.

RE: Help me decide on a car

Have you thought about Audi? I love my A3, which is a hatch-back. The A4s are really nice, but larger than what I was looking for.

RE: Clocks tonight

The clock said 8 this morning, and I couldn't figure out if it was supposed to be 7 or 9... I have trouble remembering if it's falling forward or falling back, or light in the morning or at night since November is always dreary.
The upshot is many years ago it was declared I should never touch a clock to change the time!

RE: Bus safety

This inspection was in addition to the annual inspections the motor coaches receive. I'm not sure how often school buses are inspected.

Bus safety

Last week officials announced the Wisconsin State Patrol would conduct bus safety checks on all buses at the Wisconsin State High School Marching Band Competition Oct. 17, in Whitewater, WI. They checked drivers' credentials and hours of service, along with vehicles' equipment.
Of the 47 motor coaches at the competition, only 12 had no violations. And out of the 37 school buses, only 16 had no violations. Six buses were immediately taken out of service.
I can't imagine what the results would be like if it had been a surprise inspection...
Four years ago there was a horrific crash between a tour bus and a jack-knifed semi truck. The bus was carrying students and staff home from that marching band competition. Five people on the bus died and several others were seriously injured. That bus had faulty brakes and would not have passed inspection, however the NTSB ruled the condition of the brakes was not a factor in the accident.
Like most parents, I always assumed school buses were safe and always in safe operating condition.

RE: RVing Over For Our Family (Jennifer Is "OK")

Jennifer is in my prayers. She is lucky to have such a loving family.
Edited to add a quote that has become my daughter's motto since she developed health problems:

RE: granite countertops

We're installing granite tile in our kitchen--the difference in cost between one slab and the tile was enough money for us to buy floor tile for the kitchen, eating area, laundry room, powder room and hall. It's kind of a big kitchen, with LOTS of counterspace. :B

RE: St Crouix Falls WI. RV Park????

We stayed at Interstate Park in St. Croix Falls, and it was beautiful! Lots of rocks to climb. The park straddles the Minnesota/Wisconsin border. There was/is a visitor center on the MN side, and you can take a walking tour of the "potholes."
Taylor Falls is the town on the MN side, and this link will give you a little more information: http://www.hutchk12.org/geo/mngeo/page42.html
We were there several years ago, and took a riverboat cruise along the Mississippi River. At this time of year, the foliage should be in full "bloom."
Edited to add the Gandy Dancer State Trail is nearby for walking and biking. Also, I found another link for campgrounds, private and public in the area. You'll have to scroll down past the "Cabins" listings.

I saw the move and enjoyed it. But I agree with corgihauler: Julie and her blog were not as interesting as the Julia Child sections.

RE: Gonna be driving a school bus! UPDATE: 10-15-09

CONGTATS, Julie!!!
I once had a bus driver who held contests every week, one side of the bus against the other. whichever side was the quietest, those kids got a piece of candy Friday afternoon. Funny, I remember the contest, but don't remember eating any candy...

RE: Going to be Flying for First Time! Need Advice Please

Hi Julie! You're going to have a GREAT time!! A few things others have not mentioned:
I like to get to the airport at least an hour early.
You will need to hand over your driver's license at check-in, and also when you go through Security. We preprint our boarding passes at home before we leave. You will need the boarding pass when you check in, when you go through security and when you board the plane. I stick it in my book as an extra bookmark where it is easy to find. When you get to your gate, make sure the flight listed is yours. Sometimes they change gates.
I always get cold when I fly, so I bring along a sweater. They make you take it off when you go through security, though. They have plastic buckets, so I put it in there with my shoes and purse. I always wear slip-ons to save a little time taking on and off my shoes. If you have bottles of anything in your purse like stain remover, perfume or whatever, don't forget to take it out and put it in the bucket.
I bring a baggie of trail mix or some other kind of snack. They give you a free non-alcoholic beverage on the flight, but I always need food, too. There is stuff you can buy at the airport, but it's much cheaper if you just bring it from home. While you can't bring a bottle of water or pop through security, you can buy one in the terminal and take it on board with you.
I prefer reading a book to using the computer during the flight. The book takes up less space and I don't have folks looking over my shoulder to see what I'm doing.

RE: Good travelling dogs (small)

Our poodles love to travel! We have a seasonal site, and usually take the 45 minute trip every weekend. Last weekend we had to stay home, and Felix spent three hours at the garage door whining--he wanted to go!!!
He didn't like the car when he was a puppy. It was only after several trips around the block with someone feeding him potato chips that he changed his mind.
