RE: New phrases that you just hate!!

"At the end of the day"
"That's life"
"Sweeeet"
"Like"
"Whatever?"
There are more, but these are the worst that come to mind.

RE: What's up with the trash?

I carry a shovel and bury all the biodegradable trash. The rest I burn. If I have plastic or foam packing material, I will burn that at night, so it doesn't put off the black smoke. ;)

RE: Fishing in Kenai

Do those people NOT know that bear is there? If they do know, why are THEY still there?
Frank
Bears want fish / People want fish
There will always be the eternal competition for the fish. Most of guys down there pack a pistol or sawed off shotgun, to give them a sporting chance to win. If you go, saddle up with a guy with a gun.

RE: lightning bugs.............

They are rapidly disappearing and going to be extinct soon. Google it up. They are having problems reproducing, because of all the artificial lights humans have placed around their haunts. Too bad, I liked them when I saw them down in the lesser 48.

RE: Wild weird stuff at the Henry Ford Museum

Not up here. I was at the Talkeetna Museum a week ago and the two young dudes and one old woman working the counter looked like the Sunday Funnies. Took me quite awhile to read all the writing and looking at the pictures on their hides, made me laugh. I expect to see them turned into lamp shades, when they pass on and someone inherits their skins. Does anyone know of a good tannery?

RE: Tell us about Alaska

A plane ride and bears all in one day. Go north of Anchorage about a hundred miles. Get hold of Willow Air. Take a sack of dog food and to to Bear Haven. It is only about 15 minutes by air. There is a guy that has black and brown bears coming into his yard all day and night, looking for a handout. Charlie is his name. Everyone around knows who he is.

RE: Fewer visitors in Seward this summer

Very few local business' will notice any difference. Most of the tour buses and lines stop at the designated stops, that belong or are on contract to the large out of country business'. They don't let the passengers stray too far from their routes. When a bus pulls up in front of a gift shop or rest stop, they are herded in, single file. If someone tries to stray a bit, they quickly get put back in line. See it all the time. Most of the big money go out of the USofA. It goes to foriegn countries. No biggie, the business loss will benifit the locals, by having less people to deal with and less traffic on the roads. It is a good thing, for it get scaled back. It was getting to be too much on the limited amount of infrastructure Alaska has. ;)

RE: Global Warming Panic Article

Bah; Humbug,
Today is April 6th. I have 4 feet of snow in my yard and it was 6F here at my cabin this morning. Situation normal. The earth's climate has been changing for ever, get over it already.

RE: Alaska volcano erupts again

Redoubt has erupted 10 times over the past few days. Again this evening. Ashfall is sporadic, covering an area from Cantwell to Homer and Whittier to King Salmon. One of the hardest hit areas is along the Yentna River. Back in '89, it took Redoubt almost 6 months to settle down. So...it is entirely possible, that this time it could well last over the summer. Always carry a mask in the RV, in Alaska, you never know when you might need it for forest fires, volcanos or fish processing plants. :)

RE: Recession hit close to home

Will Rogers once said "It is a Recession when your neighbor loses his job and a Depression when you lose your job".
When will the BHO administration publicly admit they have a Depression going on?
And....where can I get one of them red, white and blue bumper stickers that reads "I TOLD YA SO"? We knew it was coming, it is not going to be the same from here on it. Sad? Yes. But we better get hustling and make do with less. :)

RE: It's gonna be a BEAUTIFUL day

Another spectacular day here as well. Today we are getting another nice snowfall. This one is expected to level off at about 18". Hopefully get a little more shoveling and plowing in tomorrow, as we get ready for the Iditarod restart. The trails are excellent from here, so the dogs and mushers will have it made. We now have about 40 some odd inches of settled out snowpack and the ice on the river is about 30" thick. Hopefully this year will be a late breakup, it is shaping up that way. Last years unseasonably cold summer helped out with making this winter one of the coldest as well. It is a balmy 21 above right now, and this is 75 degrees better than it was three weeks ago. So I am in tall cotton right now.

RE: vienna sausages??

The slim is the best part. But they are pretty good frozen, just eat them like a carrot stick. If it is too warm to freeze them, I like to mush them up in the can, and eat them with a spoon.

RE: Sick to death of this Winter!!!! :(

Where is Al Gore when we need him?
It was -54F here at my cabin for a couple of days. It has been rocking back and forth between -30F & -50F for a couple of weeks now. For those RV'rs that remember passing through Tok, it was -78F there two days ago. At least the rivers are all pretty safe for travel now.

RE: Unicat Anyone?

Useless for offroading in Alaska. It would be stuck good, within 50 feet after it got off a hardened surface up here. The weight of the rig would be it's detriment. I have an all wheel drive m/h, and pickup as well, but they are only good for bad roads, not offroad. Better off to spend the extra money on ATV's, if you want to go exploring offroad.
I agree. But I didn't buy the U500/Unicat for up here (though it's been in a ways at Eureka), and it's not as bad "offroad" as it would seem due to CTIS and good sized (47" tall by 15.5" wide) tires.
I got it for a RTW trip starting in nice, dry Australia.
What kind of AWD MH do you have?
Charlie
Charlie,
Sounds like you are in for a real excursion. It should be a great trip. How long is your journey planned for? I can't imagine the Unicat going in past Old Man Creek, at Eureka. Did it? I have a Scotty, on a Dodge Chasis, and my offroad capabilities are limited to the side roads and gravel pits.
Have fun on the RTW Trip.

RE: What words or phrases would your eliminate?

"Free"
There is nothing "free", so why have the word to describe something that doesn't exist?
Nothing?
It cost me and you nothing (unless you consider one's time) to use this Forum so wouldn't that be considered free?
I can also think of many other things that are free, such as the freedom one has to post their opinion on these pages (even though it's wrong).
:B
Nothing!
To post here does cost time, technological toys and electricity.
The cost of Freedom, is probably the most expensive luxury you and I enjoy. The price was high for many, who gave their all for you and I to enjoy the Freedom we do have. What is a life worth?
