RE: I just got back from having a direct dish installed

Your DirectTV HD will operate on one cable, it is probably a SWM system and there will be a power inserter in the system to power the switches. You should be OK, enjoy your new system, I envy you!The 3005 is NOT a SWM dish.

RE: Does Anyone On Here Own A Jayco Embark ?

I cut holes in the back of the too short overhead cabinets to fit the sat receiver HD DVR and a REAL DVD player. It is only 1/8" lauan and cuts easily with a knife. There is about 3" of clearance behind them.
I also ran HDMI cables to all the HD TV's. And mounted 2 switched receptacles behind the TV for all the components so no cords or cables are on the shelves.
Installed a Winegard Trav'ler DirecTV dish with SWM.
I removed the 40" TV in the bedroom and replaced it with a 32" and machined a pivoting mount on top of the electric pop up mount so you can actually see it from the bed.
I installed a Sensar Pro for the OTA antenna. Total waste of time and $. :)
Rewired the awning to work on the inverter and added another inverter receptacle behind the chair. Mine had no receptacles wired to the inverter except the microwave and TV's. Added an outside inverter receptacle also. Caution- The wiring of the inverter in the distribution panel is very different from standard in home service panel wiring. And of course poorly marked.
I installed an opening window in the rear for bedroom ventilation.
I also fixed about 100 things the totally careless "Amish Craftsmen" didn't feel were worth doing correctly.
The truck drives great and the paint job is awesome.

RE: Progressive Road Side Assistance

My teenage daughter was injured from being rear-ended in another county. The offender played along as this company played slimy hardball, using denial (in a rear-ender no less!) and delaying tactics, knowing that she was a student from another county. Ultimately, following medical treatment, therapy, and recovery, they ground her down to almost nothing, knowing the hardship of an honor student staying out of town for a trial. I wouldn't do business with them, ever, even if their insurance was free of charge... Just one man's opinion. Why would it make a difference if the accident was in another county? State and federal laws still apply don't they? Was Progressive your insurer or the other persons?

RE: Check Tire Pressure Before Every Trip

For you guys with the TPMS. How many times have you actually had a tire go down that the TPMS detected, that you would not have, by checking pressure on a regular basis ?

RE: Sewer line discharge

I removed the outside swivel pipe and got some fittings including a clear 90ยบ . Ran it straight down and out with a quick cap. Hose connect and cleanup is easy. I just coil the hose into a 5 gal. plastic bucket after cleaning.
You are right about Jayco's design. I am sure it was all about $.

RE: Mattress Lift Gas Springs - Upgrading Problems

I originally added a second set of lifts to mine and tore everything up. I went back to a single one each side and built a drop down support to use when the bed was up.
I later tackled the job again using double pistons, but welded up a frame for the bottom and some heftier brackets for the plywood mattress base. http://www.irv2.com/attachments/photopost/data/500/0034.jpgVery nice design and workmanship.

RE: BD space saver coffee pot

Stay away from their newest model SDC740 space saver unit. It makes a terrible cup of slightly warm coffee. I went to all the trouble of under cabinet mounting and only used it for a few days. Read all the bad reviews on Amazon about it.
Their ODC440 models were good units except the electronic controls burned up in 1 year (2units for me) and they would not sell parts.

RE: Old Wineguard crank up

All you need is a second LNB and whatever switch your receiver requires. Facing the dish, attach a new LNB to the left side of the original. I used nylon ties or hot glue. Mount it about 1/2" lower. The new LNB will be the 110 sat the original will get 119. Check the signal strength and fine tune it a bit. I did it that way for years.

RE: Adults Only RV Parks

Go to RV Park Reviews and filter your search on not family friendly,
Thanx but their search engine must be made by the same company as the one on this forum. :) Even when I found a not family friendly marked park in Cedar Key, it does not show up if I search that way.

RE: Adults Only RV Parks

Being new to this , I must apologize as my terminology may have been wrong. We are looking for adults only campgrounds. I guess RV parks would be for long term or seasonal stays. We are looking for south Fla. or the keys for 1 week or less visits.
Thanx

Sure sorry to hear mail order did not work out for you.I got mine from Amazon and had no issues and got it fast. What was the total price from CW when you drove away with it mounted and working ?

RE: (Winegard SK-3005 TRAV'LER) Back up plan for installation

Put it on the roof where it was designed to be put. That thing is heavy and like was said before, it is very awkward weight. I am only 60 with a bad back and would never even consider using it as a portable.
While you are out in the rain trying to drag that thing around and hook it up, I will be dry and watching TV already. :)
Good Luck

RE: solar in winter in northern state?

I have solar on my house in a northern climate. One other thing to consider is snow. They make 0 when covered with snow. They also make almost nothing even when partially covered.

RE: washing and waxing motorhome

Come on up to the northeast. Average for wash and wax is 10-12 dollars a foot in MA. I just checked a new place listed on line and they wanted $1030 for my 34ft class a. Oh, and if it was real dirty they said they would give me a 5% discount.
I think my sore shoulders can get through a couple more waxes on my own.I would think in Ma. you would need several permits and a review by the historical society before under taking a project like that. Maybe also a tax review for increased value. :)

We usually crank it up with some big outside speakers. Keep it just loud enough to drown out the Harbor Freight generator 8 spaces away. :)

Ever since they started charging to dump your RV I haven't gone to a flying J.Why should YOU be able to dump for free and have all the other non dumping customers pay for it. Didn't Walmart have a dump at your last campsite?

My Garmin told me to exit the Jersey Turnpike at a rest stop by using the gated service road. That would have been a much cheaper route. :)
