RE: Gas/diesel prices getting scary...

We have a number of nice lakes and campgrounds within an hours drive, so when gas prices spike we just stay close to home.
But it's all relative. If we take a weekend in Gatlinburg and stay in a hotel, we spend about $400 on gas, hotel and eating out. For that money, we could drive 600 miles r/t with the camper.

RE: Out side extra storage Mods?

You don't say what your TV is, but I would look more to it for extra storage than the TT. A cartop carrier or a camper shell can create extra space. I would be wary of putting storage under the TT, as there is little clearance there to begin with.
On the TT, a cargo carrier mounted on the back would provide extra space. For us, we just used what space was available inside the trailer - in the shower, on top of the bed, on the couch, etc. When we get to the campground we unload it during setup and store it inside the dining canopy.

RE: TT Slide Out Leaking

I.ve been in hundreds of TTs and 5ers, and never saw a sunroof in a slideout. Something new every day, I guess.
If you have resealed around the sunroof and water is still coming in, then the leak is somewhere else.
1) With the slide out, feel behind the slide facia (inside the TT)where the seal presses against the trailer wall. It should be tight with no gapa. If there are, the slide is not going out completely and needs adjusted.
2) On most slides, there are small gutters that run down both sides of the slide and then curve out slightly past the seal to direct water away. Make sure they are not obstructed.
3) There are usually two seals along the top and sides, make sure both are functioning correctly and not binding up.
You implied that the water was coming in at the top of the slideout - is this correct?

RE: Trailer Show Today - Just my thoughts

I have to disagree. We looked at many TT before we bought our Dutchmen Denali, on local lots and twice at the Atlanta RV show.
We were convinced that we would have to move to a 5er to get the features and storage we wanted.
We found that TTs have made a quantum leap in features and amenities over the last 2 years. Some examples;
1) TTs now commonly have 2 and sometimes 3 slides, creating more interior space. One of the Open Range models even has 3 steps up to the bedroom like a 5er.
2) Exterior storage space comes closer to a 5er than older TTs.
3) Units are designed for flat screen TVs now, saving space over the old CRTs.
4) Many new TTs are designed with larger holding tanks than older units.
5) Almost all new units have enclosed underbellies and arctic packages, making cold weather camping easier.
6) Appliances are more modern and more efficient.
7) Most new units have self-enclosed bathrooms with porcelain toilets and glass showers.
*) Kitchens are designed better and cabinet space is more efficient.
We also found that window space is much greater in the new units.
Just MHO, folks...

RE: ok to use a brick under a 4x4 wood block as tongue jack base?

This ain't rocket science - almost anything will work. Had to laugh about a brick crumbling tho - if that's true, we sure have a lot of buildings in trouble!

RE: Dutchmen Denali travel trailer quality

We bought a Denali 289RK in April and have camped probably 20 nights so far. One of the reasons we bought it was the quality seemed to be several steps up from entry level. The layout is sensible, yet attractive. It doesn't have a "cheap" feel to it. The holding tanks are large, and the solid surface countertops are nice. Our unit has the larger refrig and water heater. No problems so far that we didn't cause ourselves. I would recommend Coachmen based on our experience.
That said, I'm not sure I'd want to spend months at a time in anything less than a 4-slide 5er!

RE: Electric Awning and Controlling Rain Runoff

or is there some way to manually control it?
You can stand under the awning and manually pull the arm down (if you can reach it) to dump the water. Make sure you are UNDER the awning when you do this! If it does it automatically, the front-to-back level of your trailer will determine where the water runs off (gravity, ya know?).

RE: Water heater

I assume you've got a 6 gal tank, 2 hours should be enough to get at least warm. Are you sure it's on?
On reflection, check the wh bypass valves to see they are not bypassing the wh.

RE: Homeowners insurance and deductibles

I'm assuming there was a notification for the increase in deductible sent to all policy holders well before the change, and probably a rider made available (at a cost, undoubtedly) to reduce the deductible.
This is something the agent, if he's worth his/her salt, should have brought to the attention of the policyholder. I'm with State Farm, and several years ago my agent sent me a notification that my policy didn't cover earthquakes. I ignored it, because, of course, earthquakes in Tennessee? Then my son told me about the New Madrid fault so I added a rider for coverage.
It's easy to blame the insurance companies, but isn't knowing EXACTLY what's in our policies our own responsibility? jmho

RE: Flagstaff V-Lite

We looked at the V-Lites, both Flagstaff and Rockwood. Didn't care for the front kitchen because no windows, and the location of the entertainment center makes it difficult to see the TV from the recliners. The other floor plan has no recliners and very little counter space. Both of them, particularly the front kitchen, have almost no outside storage.

RE: 30A hooked up, Run A/C or not

Since you have 30 amp at home, you can do whatever you want. We keep our refrig running all the time. If you want to spend the electricity, let the ac run, or keep it off and run it for a few hours before you leave for a trip.
