RE: IR Thermometer

Currently using an inexpensive IR thermometer ($30) from Pep-Boys.
Every three weeks DW and I take the RV for a 20 mile drive through moderate traffic. Upon returning home the front wheel rims are warm/hot to the touch. Per an Rver’s suggestion we have started to measure and record the rotor temperatures using an infrared heat gun. After a drive of this distance what should the surface temperature of the front brake rotor read? Our inexpensive infrared heat gun reads > 240 degrees F. when we arrive home. After sitting for 10 to 15 minutes the rotors read 190 degrees F. Do these temperatures indicate that the front brakes are overheating? Should the front wheel rims be warm/hot to the touch after a drive of that distance through moderate traffic which would include 15 to 20 stop signs?

RE: What A Mess for 2009

chring,
Saw a similiar thing happen at a truck stop in southern Florida one summer. This poor fellow must have just come from a nice restaurant as he was wearing white shoes, trousers and shirt. He connected the sewer hose to the coupling and proceeded to open it, the hose seperated from the coupling blowing s..t all over his shoes, trousers and shirt. He quickly stepped back and then went over to the driver's window of the RV and started knocking in disbelief. His wife looked out, locked the door and started screaming, don't even think about coming in here. She then opened the window and threw him a clean pair of shorts and the rest is history.
Moral to the story: make sure your sewer hose is in good repair, the connection is tight to the coupling, open the grey water valve briefly to test the connection, close the grey water valve and proceed to empty the black water tank.

RE: Re; Will it start.

Believe that boxing is when one packs small items: food, personal items, books, maps and etc. into cardboard boxes and place them in the RV. As you travel along you pack the items in their proper location and then discard the cardboard boxes. We will be using that technique when we leave for Florida in two or three weeks. Nice technique to use if you are departing from the northern states.

RE: Wisconsin to Tx. on I-35, any cities to bypass?

1951 Elmer,
Last winter we spent the month of March in Texas and here is another route you might consider. Drive south through Springfield, Illinois on to Arkansas then to eastern Texas. Head south to Beaumont, Galveston, Corpus Christi and then Brownsville.
This year we are going to spend the winter in Florida but next winter back to Texas along that route. Should mention that you will have to ferry the RV across two channels when going that route. Nice drive no large cities to go through. JMHO.

RE: Ny to Florida...place to overnight in Carolinas

dcason,
Great place to visit as we spent ten days there during the week of December 17,2003 for the Wright Brother's Centennial Celebration.

dcason,
If you don't mind a little side trip check out the "Outer Banks". Overnighting should not be a problem.
