RE: Disabled and volunteering as Camp Host

I'vewatched the campground hosts at Beal's Point at Folsom Lake State Park this year, and their duties seem very easy. They make routine drives around check sites, checking check-in and out times on the posts at each site. I've never seen them cleaning bathrooms and showers, as I think the ranger staff does that. They might sell firewood. I've seen a couple of them make their rounds on state golf carts. What I'm saying is unless you're confined to a wheelchair, it looks like anyone except the most disabled can do some jobs, at least at this state park.

RE: Fall Color Too - an update of sorts

Bob, I live near San Diego. Palm trees don't change colors. Very boring in the fall. I didn't grow up, in Texas, being able to see fall colors but have visited New England a couple times in the fall as well as being able to see the aspens in Colorado. I wish we had color here. Guess we'll just have to pack up the RV and head to them.

RE: Good sites at Fallen Leaf Lake, CA

i DROVE THROUGH THERE in September, and it's a nice campground. As I recall, none are actually on the lake.

RE: Fall Color Too - an update of sorts

Bob, I enjoyed your story, humor and great pictures. I think, tho, that there is some fall colors in east Texas. No, can't come close to comparing with New England or many other states, but my wife and I drove Highway 69 from Groves to Jacksonville and saw lots of color in the fall. Loved it around Rusk. There is some color. And you can't beat spring in southeast Texas, with azeleas blooming the size of Volkswagons, the bluebonnets. Every state has its own attributes. But I really did enjoy your story and pictures.

RE: Houston to West Coast

You're in for a great trip. There's not much in West Texas, but I'd take the ten mile or so detour south of I-10to visit Balmorhea Park SP. It's a natural spring they've made into a swimming pool. They have a campground as well as casitas to stay in. It's more of a look and see visit. In Az. you might want to drop down and see Tombstone. Although it's touristy, I think it's worth the visit. There's at least one campground there. If you're ready to spend the night in Tucson, there's Beaudry's RV Resort that's pretty nice, or if you want to get through town and stop, we like Pacheco Peak RV Resort. Yuma has their old state prison from the western days that's worth the visit. It's on the far west side of town just before you cross over the Colorado River into California. In San Diego, there's so much to see, I'd recommend staying in the Santee Lakes campground east of SD, or the Chula Vista RV Resort, which is more centrally located to our harbor area, the zoo, which is a must see, the USS Midway aircraft carrier on the harbor, Seaport Village for shopping and just a beautiful setting. Be sure, if it's a clear day, to drive to the top of Point Loma, past the Rosecrans National Cemetery, to the point where you get a huge sweeping view of all of San Diego Bay to Mexico. There's two state parks on bluffs overlooking the ocean. San Elijo SP has a few hookups, restaurants within walking distance, and you can watch and listen to the ocean all day and night. Carlsbad State Beach has no hookups, but beautiful views.

RE: Baton Rouge, LA & LaFayette, LA - what to do?

JP, if you continue on to Texas, there is a great casino called something like Labarge de luc. Probably not spelling it exactly right. Lots of RV parking. I'm not a gambler, but I met two cousins there for there $14.95 buffet that was fantastic. Huge views of the lake and barge and tug traffic on the lake. It's about three minutes off I-10. Lafayette has lots of great cajun food. Also, there are two great welcome stations: one just before you leave La. and one at the Texas Welcome Center. Both have ample parking and boardwalks into the bayou to see the flora and fauna, self-guided.

RE: Traveling I-5 Southbound thru California

Avenue ofthe Giants in northern Ca. is a must. It's about a 20 mile very small loop off I-5. There's a couple campgrounds there, no hookups that I remember. It's the redwoods at their best. Don't miss it.

RE: 13 Arizona Rest Areas Closed!

While I feel for those affected by losing the rest stops, it's nice to see some state other than California having financial problems. Wait. That didn't come out right. I feel for every state and individual having financial problems. I mean, seems like when news comes out that Ca. is having budget problems, causing some of our state parks to close, all we hear are derogatory marks from those in other states saying, "Well, that's California for ya. They deserve what they get." I'm not intending to cause controversy here, so I apologize in advance if I'm not stating this clearly.

RE: Storage compartments come out with the slide out.

I can sympathize with you. I bought a 2004 Sea Breeze instead of the Bounder. The Bounder has the slides where the storage bins come out with it. I've regretted my mistake every day since, especially when I have to stoop down under the slide to get something I forgot, bumped my head once so hard I almost knocked myself out. I'd love to have mine converted, too, if it was possible and affordable.

RE: Itchy Foot Unbearable

My wife has had an itchy foot or toe and has been soaking her feet in Listerine. Seems to be working, but the whole house smells like Listerine.

RE: RV Parks near MD Anderson

I had never heard of Lake View RV resort. That looks really nice. A little further than the one on Main Street, but looks like a heck of a lot nicer.

RE: RV Values

If you have the RV Trader back there, you could get comps there if you can find an RV similar enough to yours.

RE: retractable awning not closing all the way

I had the same problem with my awning in March while staying at Folsom Lake SP. The campground host named Jerry came over to show me how to correct it. Like the first two posters said, in my case the wind caused it to be a little out of alignment, and with Jerry's help we had the problem corrected in about 30 seconds.

RE: RV Parks near MD Anderson

Try this out. They have a free shuttle to the medical center: http://www.smrvpark.com/ I spent three weeks at a Best Western across from MD Anderson about six years ago with my brother who was undergoing experimental chemo for liver cancer. Wish I'd have had my RV there. I hope this works out for you.

RE: RV Parks near MD Anderson

There's an RV park on Main Street just beyond the interstate. I know that's vague, but I checked it out once and can't remember if it's the 610 Loop. I'll check it out and try to get back to you. It's only a couple miles or so from MD Anderson. As for the weather, it seems to rain a lot in the winter,if not year round.
