RE: First trip report - Part 1, Valley of the Gods, Utah

Haven't been to Valley of the Gods yet and from your photos I'm going to have add it to my very long list. This one photo of your would be a good contender in the next TMC calender contest, a very nice shot.

RE: boondocking in north rim grand canyon

Forest road 22 is four miles from the main entrance of the N.Rim, drive up it for about 3 miles and you'll come to a open area where large MH and 5th wheels have used.

This places you very close to the park, there is a fuel staion and a small general store inside the park next to the campground. Lots of deer come out in the late aternoon/early evening.

RE: AF 1150 Air conditioner question

It's pretty typical for the all manual units, some of the units with a wall stat will switch to low fan speed when set point is reached. The other reason for the fan to be blowing on high is for the condition of high humidity to help prevent icing of the evaporator coil.

RE: Slippin' and a Slidin'.....fixed!!!

DJ,i thought you were using the Engle for your refrigeration needs.did you run out of space on the Sunlite or just desire to utilize a fridge in the existing location.just gotta love the Engle, just gotta hate ALL absorption fridges.
I still have the Engle. There is just no floor space for it in this camper like the old Northstar.
My Dealer called and said it would be $1180 to install the Dometic 12 volt. :E It is 2.2 cubic feet and draws 3.5 amps. That is quite a lot compared to my Engle at .07-2.5 on max freeze.
Norcold has 12Vdc models also, the "DE" series, but remember that amps drawn only when it's running. Here's also a link to Nova Kool, which has a good selection of 12Vdc compressor run unit.
It's good to see that your still getting out.

RE: Furnace Heating Intermitently

We're on out first trip with our 2008 Forest River TT. During travel, the three tiny control buttons on our thermostat broke off. It is a Duotherm. The buttons are: 1)Heat - Off - Cool
2)Fan - Auto or Manual
3)Hi-Low (for Fan Speed)
The lever for temperature control survived.
I have used a tiny screw driver to put #1 above to the Heat position and #2 to Auto, and #3 to High.
We are presently (and temporarily)parked on the street with the slide out in.
When I move the temperature lever up, most times the fan comes on but no heat comes out. The fan will shut off after about 3 minutes by itself without having provided any heat.
Sometimes though, the fan will go on and the heat will come out and all will work as it probably should.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
Thanks
gekog
Is this a wall thermostat your talking about, if so you could possibility have a stat that is mal-fucting.The reason for this as my first suggestion is due to your missing "buttons"
Other items to look at:
Sail switch
limit switch
Fan switch
Loose wire connection
Blower motor not running up to correct rpm's
Here's a PDF file for a 6000 series Duo Threm has a pretty good trouble shooting section.

RE: Boondocking

I made a call to Burlingame State Park, they allow the running of generators from 7:00am to 8:00pm. A generator would be your easiest way to go in re-charging trailer battery, it should be a quiet generator or if it's one of those "contractor" type they will limit your running time. You can also install extra batteries and or solar panels to increase your power supply.

RE: My ac gave out..

here's a link to the 8000 pdf file file, look on page6 and compare with your exiting stat and wire connections on the stat. This file doesn't show the elect. heat strip, use this file as a guide and check to see if the plug inside of the AC unit is the same also.

RE: 12 day trip to explore Utah's Scenic Highway 12 and parks

Here's the link to American By-Way12, this Highway is a wonderful route to take to see your first time of Utah. Having done this route several time your have little problems finding camping areas to stay in, I would suggest that you relocal your base camp for the different areas for you'll find your self doing more driving that seeing the sights. Truck Camper Trip Report (link below)has many reports with lots of information and photos of the very areas you want to see.
As far as getting fuel along this route it's of no problems. PM me if you have or need more detail information.

RE: What else do I need?

Definitely go with the plug in the bed, I did the plug extension to the trailer plug on my Ford and it didn't provide enough amps for our electical needs. A bed mat is a good way to got in order to keep the camper from sliding around in the truck bed and as others have said if you have a plastic liner in that bed get rid of it.
With your truck and the camper your getting I suggest you wait on suspension add on's, give it a couple of weeks of driving around with the TC on. If you decide to go with suspension add on's becuse the headlights are too high or/and the rig is off level to one side I'd go with air bags (some TCs are heavier on one side) with them you can adjust you back to front height and side to side level.
Check out the Truck Camper University for many TC project that many of our menbers have done. The dealer should know if the camper is solar ready, if not solar still cn be installed, I have a 85 watt panel on mine and my camper wasn't solar ready.

RE: Truck Campers

Would someone mind telling me why TC's are not welcome in some campgrounds??? It's not a traveling meth lab. A camper is a camper is a camper. They may not be able to afford the "approved" rigs but they are just as nice. Good Grief:h
There has only been very few posting about that, haven't ran into that sitution yet and I wouldn't want to stay at a place that wouldn't allow a TC there, so no lost on my part.

RE: Trip Report: Death Valley in March

It's one of my destinations this year. I plan to go there in June or July, because during the two months I have much time for camping.
Bring sun block 100, NOAA show that DV is going to hit triple digit and it's only the being of May, by June/ July temperatures can hit over 120 degrees.

RE: Norcold refrigerators

I have a Norcold 300.3 it's ten years old and the absorption coil is being repaired right now. My cost will be 400 dollars, that's includes removeale of the refrigerator and re-install.What appears to happen is the hydrogen has finnaly diffused enought so the unit can no longer function. Matt at Kona Cools told me that all of the makers of absorption units have go to thinner wall tubing and the boilers on many of the new units are made in China

RE: More roads of New Mexico

We took Hwy285 in the north direction, from I-20 to Cline Corners in May of 2009, stopping in Carlsbad for a couple of days to tour the caverns. Hwy285 from Clines Corner is mostly a 4 lane road that is fairly decent to drive, there is a lot of open space between towns along this route.
Hwy285 north
http://travelingman2.smugmug.com/Travel/May-2009-Trippart7/May-2009-P-041/648347971_jLfWx-M.jpg
It does narrow down to a tight 4 lane road going through a couple of towns south of Roswell, but that only for a few miles. South of Carlsbad the road looks like this,
Heading north
http://travelingman2.smugmug.com/Travel/May-2009-Trip-part6/May-2009-N-168/627540128_r9hSn-M.jpg
Bottom line you'll have no problem driving Hwy285 with your rig, stop in Carlsbad and see the caverns. Any question that you may have just PM me.
