RE: Is the Trailer Life camping guide only an ad seller?

I've been RVing since 1974, used TL guide often, found it fairly accurate, seen many campgrounds listed w/o ads, spoken to many campground owners some years back when we were considering buying a campground, most reported TL as being honest in their ratings, with the ad offer coming AFTER the rating. I use my android apps, the TL book, and anything else I can rake up, but I have been disappointed less over the years with TL's ratings.

RE: Internet on Fire or Nook color

If I had to choose between a Fire or Nook, I would buy an iPad.
For me the iPad is much more useful and a better choice in my opinion.
Kinda of an "oranges to apples" (wink) comparison, the price difference is hefty, and if you're not looking for almost laptop the ereaders (particularity if hacked to full android capability) will do most of what most want. I do carry a laptop on board but it gets pulled out only every day or so on the road.
Computer/tablet/ereader - is often a personal choice or is dictated by a particular program need - they're all fun to play with (oh no a preposition).

RE: Internet on Fire or Nook color

I use a Nook Color (since discontinued) hacked to android 2.3 with duel boot to stock, with a 16G sd card I carry about all I need. Works with my bluetooth keyboard as well.
Wife uses a nook touch hacked to 2.2 so it would load a good pdf reader, the small screen 6" ereaders in stock form have fits with pdf.
Hacking most of the ereaders is a simple deal with by-the-numbers instructions easily available on the net. BTW both nooks also run kindle for android.

Although using Lightroom 3 and CS5, I'm like Vermilye in that I need Photoshop less and less.
There is a bit of learning but its a great program.

RE: Details on whale watching Gaspe Quebec....

thanks jambo101 & michelb -
either of you have a favorite place to see whales, and/or a favorite place on the Gaspe?
how late in the summer can I expect to see whales?
BTW, this will be my 10th trip to Canada (considering I'm an Alabama boy that's a big deal for us), do I get a free maple leaf? :-)

comcast norton suite causes win7 64bit to freeze

Been running this combination ok until couple days ago. Then machine would freeze, requiring cold boot to restart. removed norton problem went away- anyone else having similar problems?
and question 2, currently have AVG (free) and malwarebytee (free) in place - is that enough?

RE: GPS - Replacement time --- Decision, Decision

I have an android phone and its onboard gps works well BUT as pointed out, unless you buy a program like copilot that loads its maps, you will need Internet connection for gps to work. All too often I've found that the places I go there is no connection available (note: I love national parks, etc., which don't always have the best connections). If you are almost always near the interstates or in urban areas I suppose the onboard gps is sufficient. I have a standalone gps but have copilot on my phone, "just in case".

painting a class c's skirt

I want to paint the "skirt" area on my class c - was wondering what paints tended to bond well to typical white sides, how to paint storage compartment doors, will the plastic bezel hold paint? and any other advice, except the obvious, don't do it :-)

RE: How to build a gravel RV pad

Do you have chert deposits in your area? If you do, 5-6" of chert packed with your wheels will "setup" nicely and hold in place - I've used such for driveways and for my 30' class c's parking area prior to building an RV port for it.
After 2-3 months you can put "crusher-run" limestone gravel on it for looks.

RE: Great Sand Dunes NP to Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP

How do you define best path????
considerations:
1 - reasonable road for RV with car in tow - braking, hills, etc
2 - scenic - stuff worth seeing
3 - fuel available
4 - factors not evident from the map
