RE: New Licencing Regulations in Ontario, Canada

Pipeman it is not nearly as complicated as you make it out to be. The regs clearly exempt personal use pickups of F350 duallies (with the original box) and smaller from weigh stations, CVOR, daily inspections, and log books. However, if your trucks GVWR ratings as shown on the manufacturer applied door post placard is over 4600kg you need a yellow inspection sticker regardless of vehicle use or registered weight (GRW). Now my previous truck was a F350 SRW with a GVWR of 4599kg on the manufacturer placard. I wonder why it was rated for exactly that amount? While my current truck is well over that rating. Now 3/4 tons PU's with commercial signage do also need the yellow sticker but not as a result of weight, but as a result of the commercial use. Interestingly the MTO website is down for a rewrite so I can't back up my knowledge with links to the current pertinent regs. It will be interesting to read the new regs after the website goes back up to see if any vehicle licensing changes have been made. I have previously read the regs several times and have not every found mention of any RED sticker denoting personal use, nor have I every seen a RED stickered PU. Not to say it isn't an opton, but it must be a un-disclosed option that only certain people have knowledge of. I actually carry a copy of the regs in my truck with me highlighting these specific areas for the purpose of educating un-informed or mis-guided government employees who want to apply the regs using their own interpretation. It's 4500kg not 4600:E

RE: New Licencing Regulations in Ontario, Canada

gitane59 well I got the dually and I don't have a yellow inspection sticker. They wanted me to do this with the 3/4 ton I had as well but they were told that the truck was for towing my travel trailer and they changed their mind and refunded me. Now with the dually I told the salesman that it was to be used strictly for pleasure and towing my 5er. I have vanity plates on it and the sticker is on the front plate, just like the 3/4 ton was plated and my suburban before that etc. Now here's another little piece of info I got from the head mechanic at the trailer dealer. He says to also ask for the $10 red sticker that goes on the front plate. It denotes that the truck is for personal use and therefore you won't have to go into each weigh scale and have a log book etc. The people at Service Ontario haven't a clue as to what that is. I drove trucks on the highway part time and personally I don't think you have to pull into weigh stations and do up log books as long as you're not commercial. Now the mechanic got dinged last year by a MTO portable scale check and was issued 4 tickets, 2 of which he beat in court. As I said before, what to do, what to do????? I have been looking at the front wind shields of duallys that pass by me when on the road and some have them and some don't. There are 3/4 tons that have them and some don't so I'm thinking that these guys are doing commercial things with their truck, like pulling work trailers etc. As far as I know I'm not illegal the way I am but when towing the 5er I probably am. It's interesting because I had a toy hauler before this 5er and drove with a DZ ticket for 2 years before I found out about the Class ARZ ticket and then have to have a friend in Calgary send me the info about the change along with word of mouth from the mechanic, that took place on July 1st. regarding the AR ticket. Any pickup with a door sticker with gvwr over 4500 k must have the yellow sticker commercial or not.
