RE: Sea eagle boats

I like the Zodiac brand inflatables. If you are going to deflate the boat to store it in the basement or behind the seat you really should get the high pressure inflatable floor but, need the high pressure 12 volt pump to go with it.
Having a motor on an inflatable gets you around on longer lake trips. Especially if the wind comes up... you can get back lots easier. We camp along the shores sometimes and use the boat to go shopping in town.
Inflatables apply very well to Truck Campers because of storage limits. Kinda like how icing fits on the cake.

RE: Socialcam

Just saw a few Socialcam on Facebook and it is new to me. It looks like if you click on it to watch all the people on your Facebook will get a copy also. If that is the way it works that is the pits as I don't send out anything unless I can watch first PERIOD.

Sounds like Facebook ought to fall off the face of the Earth then.
I am glad the only time I ever visited Facebook I did not understand it enough to use it. I'm kinda numb upstairs sometimes :@

RE: Going from Minden, Nevada to Santa Barbara suggestions?

Thank you RenoAl and everyone else.
We've decided to take 395 all the way with several side trips along the way. Then when we head more for Santa Barbara we will be going thru Ojia. I think it's on a winding back road highway, number 33. If I remember right, as I placed the Calif. map back into the truck.
Anyone been on 33 before?

RE: KYB or Rancho Shocks

With the KYB Mono Max you'll know they are on there. That's for sure. Empty she'll drive a little stiff but, not excessive. When on rough roads, you can tell they are doing their job. Highways and paved roads, no problem... just a wee bit stiffer ride.

RE: KYB or Rancho Shocks

Don't the little adjusting knobs on the Rancho shocks eventually freeze up so you can't adjust them? I've heard that so I went with KYB MM.I think they are right when they say, 'they are stiff but not aggressive'. Mine are holding well, still feel new after about 30 k miles so far.

RE: Any TC Haulers with a Dodge Ram Truck????????????

Got the work done. She drives like a new truck. It's odd Dodge puts on those non greasable BJ's and tie rod ends. They were dry and rusty in the joints... That's kinda where I'm headed, he he.
Anyhow feel real good getting those greasables on there. The lower BJ's are too close to the 4wd U joint to have a zirk fitting. It would get knocked off so it's got a tiny bolt you remove and place a zirk fitting there while your greasing. You can turn the wheel till the U joints out of the way for that.

RE: Going from Minden, Nevada to Santa Barbara suggestions?

sbishop, I thank you for that. I have been wondering which way to cut over to Santa Barbara from the south end of 395. I figure cut over as soon as possible, try avoiding traffic coming out of L.A.

RE: Going from Minden, Nevada to Santa Barbara suggestions?

Been doing some searches and it looks like Mt. Whitney Portal Rd. and Movie Road look very interesting. Filmed a lot of westerns there. Views are supposed to be great mountain views too.
Anyone with more suggestions for this area?

RE: Going from Minden, Nevada to Santa Barbara suggestions?

Good thoughts and suggestions. We used to live in Monterey and know that part of the coast south, but, we are interested in the inland mountain routes since we've never been near there.
jmtandem, are you suggesting that route because cutting over toward Santa Barbara from 395 is a bad deal because of the traffic?
So thankful for the good people on here.

Going from Minden, Nevada to Santa Barbara suggestions?

So far all I know is to head south on 395, but, would like ideas for the slower, more beautiful, less traveled routes. We have the time and love the slow roads and little traffic. Any suggestions if there is such a route?
Also any good quiet out of the way campgrounds for us to go to. We like to avoid crowded areas off the beaten path.

RE: Tires and the mis-nomer of Load Range Letter Designators

I know a guy that works at a tire store and hauls his camper off roading with load range D tires. I asked him about that because he's always trying to sell me the strongest tire I can buy for hauling my camper.
All he said was, 'years ago that's all they had was load D tires for TC haulers'
He says, 'I never heard of any problems with it back then'
Wow Wow WOW!

RE: Heater noise is excessive

I just put one diode on to stop the rumbling. It slows down the fan only just a half of a volt. Like lower batteries sort of. Never wakes us up anymore.
Just out of curiosity, where did you put the diode? in line with the 12VDC supply to the furnace or in line with just the motor?
My furnace is loud in the cabin, but quiet outside. Its a shame they can't put a quieter fan blade set-up on the motor - probably would cost them an extra $1.00 to replace the egg-beater blades.
Al
I just put it on the main 12 volt supply to the furnace. I called Attwood at first before doing this and talked with one of their techs. He said it wood be just fine to add the diode. It helped a lot.

RE: Dicor vs Etnabond

Wouldn't it be cool if they had a caulking tape strip that you could lay down over screws and everything uneven and use a heat gun and make it flow down and around all the uneven items? The edges would look straight and the sunlight would not affect it.
Boy am I dreaming......

RE: looking for a used truck

Best truck I've ever owned is a 1992 Dodge Cummins 5 speed 4x4. Still driving it after 16 years and still won't sell it. If you can find a 92-93 5 speed in nice shape with the Cummins, it will be a very good truck to you.

RE: Any TC Haulers with a Dodge Ram Truck????????????

When you replace the ball joints and tie rods, replace them with quality aftermarket greasable parts. The factory stock ones on most newer vehicles are not greasable and that is why they fail so soon. Good quality greasable joints that are kept greased up (lubed at every oil change) last for most of the life of the vehicle.
I've read that using lithium grease keeps the water splash from washing out the grease. Does anyone know of a better grease? For example, marine grease is for underwater use on boat trailer wheel bearings. Is this the same as lithium grease?
Thanks much.......
