New Tent Ordered

We have never camped as a family so I am trying to gather things for us to camp. Been eye balling a Eureka Copper Canyone 1312 on Amazon for about 2 weeks. Well today I checked and the price had dropped to 245. So I just couldn't resist anymore. Now I need to find a good camp stove. Anyways thanks to the forums for people that had reviewed their tents. Hopefully I can find some information on a stove.

RE: keeping food cold

Well the standards of coolers seem to increased since I used them last. I brought up the idea of camping to some family members and they said with my family (not me) I better just get a room at the Ritz.

keeping food cold

We were looking at buying a trailer of some sort, but with limitations to my truck and being we are new to camping we have opted to start out tent camping and see what happens. We are wondering if you go camping for 3 or 4 days or more. How on earth do you keep your food cold. Unless there is a nearby store to get ice all that you have will turn to water in 1 day with my experience in ice chests. We are basically starting fresh. Most likely will involve my wife, 3 year old, 12 year old and I. Doubt we can get the 18 year old out from in front of the laptop or mirror long enough to go. She won't even go outside to get the mail if her hair isn't fixed first. All an any help is appreciated. Figured right now was a good time to start buying for next spring. I don't mind going in the cold but everyone else is out.

RE: All these numbers in my head

I just wanted to thank everyone for their help. Guess I may be tent camping for the next 5 years. I am not sure anyone can at a reasonable price change my gears and it by right. I'll have to chalk it up to another "I messed that one up". Guess it should have crossed my mind this was something I wanted to do when I bought the truck.

RE: All these numbers in my head

I guess in the flat lands of OK the OP's truck might be able to handle that much of a load. However for the rest of the US that truck would be heavily taxed pulling a small tent trailer. Sorry to say it this way, but your truck is pretty useless for anything but getting the weekly groceries. If you want to tow much more than a small tent trailer, get a truck that has more power Sadly I know and no offense taken. When it was bought all that it was for was going to work and back and the occasional dump runs. Would like to trade it and was going to, but the wife crashed her van Monday so I have to replace that first.

RE: All these numbers in my head

Thanks skip I would be happy with hybrid more than likely. Right now I would be happy with anything other than a tent. Neighbors might not be, boy you should hear my wife snore um... I mean the kids. Hope my sarcastic comment didn't offend anyone, but I have tendency to use humor when I am discouraged about things.

RE: All these numbers in my head

Thanks for the link, but my gear combo isn't in there either or I am just blind since I got new glasses yesterday. Ya, that's it I will use that excuse.

All these numbers in my head

Still trying to find a suitable trailer for my family and yet to succeed so I am turning to you with tow vehicle numbers. I drive a 2009 ford f150 supercab with 3.31 gears and 4.6l 3v. GVWR with 6900, but I can't seem to find the GCVWR with that gear combo. It is s shortbed model. Any help me out here. Trying to figure out what weight of trailer would be safe for us and not tear the truck up along the way. I know it's not the greatest combo of engine, gears, but we really didn't intend on using it to pull with, but other things in life got in the way so this is what I have to deal with. Thanks for your help.

RE: Could someone assist me?

Ok my gears are 3.55. gvwr is 6700 and gcvwr is 11500. All these numbers are driving me looney I think. I know the salesmen I have all talked to say my truck will pull a certain trailer, but my truck will pull a lot of things. I just want to pull safely. The truck is a supercab.

RE: Could someone assist me?

Hmmm... I do appreciate it, but for some reason the link has locked up my computer 4 times trying 2 different operating systems.

Could someone assist me?

Would someone please tell me what numbers I need to get to see how large of TT I can pull safely. I found one document, but I am not sure on all of the acronyms and needless to say I am not that great at math. I would appreciate if someone would help me out. I drive a 2006 F150 with a 4.6L if that helps at all.
