RE: Ticks!

My daughter came home about a week ago from school with a bandaid on her upper left thigh. I asker her what happened and she said the teacher put it on her. I pulled the bandaid off and there was tick under it. This was a substitute teacher and apparently she was not very smart. Why on earth would someone slap a bandaid over a tick instead of sending her to the school nurse is beyond me.
I pulled the tick off myself and two days latter she had a huge rash about 3-4 inches in diameter on her leg. The tick was a Lone Star Tick, which does not carry lyme disease but it is associated with Southern Tick Associated Rash Illness (STARI). Her rash was indicative of STARI. I got her to the doctor immediately (two days after the tick bite)and he decided to treat the same as Lyme Disease. The rash is now gone and she never suffered any of the Lyme like symptoms that STARI causes.
It's a good thing I decided to peek under the bandaid, I would not have known to be watching that area otherwise. We spoke to the principle and he said he would discuss this matter with the sub.

RE: Carbon monoxide poisoning a real threat in TT?

I thought the furnace recieved it's make up air from outside the camper. If so, not much chance of a CO build-up. The stove and oven do receive make up air from inside the camper. So if the Oxygen levels start getting low, you will have imcomplete combustion and start producing CO. I crack a window when cooking. If using gas for hot water or heat, I don't do anything.

RE: Type of gasoline for small engines?

I was buying lawn mower blades from my local John Deere dealer and I asked the service manager if he was seeing any ethanol related breakdowns. He told me that 7 out of 10 mowers being brought in were for ethanol related issues. Hi octane or regular octane, if it's got ethanol in it, it's not going in any small engine I own.

RE: Our new Jayco Jaf-Flight Swift 264BH

A friend of mine with no kids at the time pulled the bunks out and made a closet out of the space. Mounted a pole for his/her clothes and built in some storage shelves. Was very functional for two people.

RE: Electrial gurus, need help with door awning, please.

The awning motor is bad. Now to a previous statement that there are adjustments for in and out. Well, that comes from NOT knowing your subject and assuming ALL products are the same over the years. Your 2004 model probably does NOT have the In and Out limit adjustments as do the current production by Carefree. The quickest way to verify the motor is to wire the 2 wires to the motor from the switch direct to a 12 volt source and try to retract that way. Doubtful the switch is bad as the motors are usually what fail. The motor has an overload built in and if operating too many times in a row will kick out the overload and you have to wait a few minutes for it to cool down. Doug
You have shown you do NOT understand the written word. I said this "MAY" be for your unit. The OP never gave a model number. I also said the limit adjustments were for the model in the manual.

This may be the repair manual for your awning:

There are adjustable extend and retract limit switches on this unit. If it comes down to it, you can always adjust the extended limit so that it stops before reaching the trouble spot.

RE: Furnace starts by itself

Is the switch for heat or A/C on the thermostat turned to "off"? If it is and you have already changed out the temp element and thermostat, I would start looking at the control relay that receives the signal from the t-stat to start the fan/burner. Contacts on the relay may be damaged. I've also seen solid state relays get leak-by as well with age, but those were on 250 VDC circuits.

RE: Roof A/C not blowing cold, can it be recharged?

UPDATE!!
Update for you guys. I fiddled with the temp knob and wiggled it back and forth a coupe times, worked the on / off bottom over 20 times or so and cycled the breaker on and off 20 times and it started to freakin snow in my RV! Ice cold air, I mean ice cold.......yeah!!!!
Not sure which one it was but thanks to you guys I didn't have to take it in and pay a guy to do what I did and then lie about it and charge me $100.
Thanks guys!
Good deal! Now get some contact cleaner spray and clean the toggle switch connection and hopefully you won't have a repeat.

RE: Roof A/C not blowing cold, can it be recharged?

If you don't know how to troubleshoot, based on what you've said thus far, I think it's worth paying someone $60 to diagnose the problem for you. Someone that knows basic refrigeration and knows how to use a multimeter/read schematics can have this figured out in 30 minutes.

RE: 12v electrical problems

The only thing these 12VDC branches have in common is the distribution center. I would pull it out and start tightening all the connections including the ground.
Even if the converter is bad, the battery should pick up the slack as the converter's output decreases due to them being wired in parallel.

RE: Roof A/C not blowing cold, can it be recharged?

Since nothing happens when going to AC, my next step would be to see if you are getting control voltage (12 VDC) to the compressor control relay.
You should have a schematic with your paperwork or it may even be behind the cover of your wall controller. You can also just simply use a jumper to jump 12 VDC at the controller over to the wire going to the compressor relay. If this still does nothing, then it's either a bad wire going to the relay or a bad relay. You can verify it's not the wire by going to the other end with the jumper installed and checking for 12 VDC.
My bet is the contact on the wall controller is bad and you're not getting the signal to the control relay. May be something as simple as a loose wire. Doesn't take much resistance to stop current flow with a 12 VDC system.
Good luck

RE: Roof A/C not blowing cold, can it be recharged?

With only the fan running, push the switch over to A/C with the temp controller at it's lowest setting. Afterwards, if you hear a change in pitch, like a low hum, but the compressor isn't coming on and no cold air; I would change out the motor start capacitor before replacing the unit. A capacitor will only run you around $15.
If nothing happens after switching over to A/C, then get the multimeter out, pull the plenum off the ceiling and start troubleshooting the circuits. Could be the control relay that starts the compressor is not getting a signal from the controller, freeze protection thermistor is stopping the compressor from coming on, etc....

RE: bike rack

A rack configured to mount between the trailer and the TV is best.
A few forum members have posted pictures of their tongue mounted racks. A quick search will locate the posts.
I run a pin box mount on the 5th. I had a local welder fab a mount to hold an under tire type rack that we had left over from a prior MH
Just personal opinion I suppose, I guess I 'd rather be the first to run them over, should they ever fall off. :R:R:R

RE: looking at 2012 jayco 26rls

I've got the 26BHS Jayflight G2. I bought it new in 2009 and it has been a great camper so far. Only issue I've had is the converter went out a few months before the warranty expired. A local dealer was able to get me the part at no cost, so I didn't have to pull the camper to them.
I don't know if they still offer the dream dinette option, if they do I recommend you get it. The Maxistor option is another one to look at if available on your model.
Another great thing about the Jayflights is most people (<250 pounds) can get on the roof which makes maintenance and covering a lot easier.

If you don't mind laying out $700, Arvika is the way to go with a TT. I bought mine about a year ago and have not regretted it one second.

RE: Any disappointments??

My previous camper was a HTT. The first time I had to break camp in the rain I started reconsidering why I went the HTT route. I had a lot of fun in that camper, but having to make the beds everytime we took it out was a pain as well.
We had a racoon knock the lid off a garbage can at our site one night. It sounded like it happened inside the camper, my wife nearly came unglued as she thought someone was trying to get in.
I think you either love them or hate them.
