RE: Ca. coast

Don't know what you are driving, but Hwy 1 S of Carmel gets dicey, narrow twisting road; going south you are right over the edge and one slip and it is going to get ugly. Also Hwy 1 gets very cityfied close to and S of LA. Very commercial not a place for boondocking. The stretch between LA and San Diego has state parks but they get full early (6 months). Keep in mind that N and S of LA is where the polulation is.

RE: Southbound Highway 1

I would be more concerned about the road. Hwy 1 is a twisting nightmare with very tight turn and a lot of up and downs. It will be very slow and very tense. Do a search on this site for lots of info.

RE: Key West Recommendations

We stayed at Bluewater Key in May and WOW unbelieable sites. Pricey but you only go around once. You will need a car it is 5 miles from KW.

RE: Hond CR_V

Tow it 4 down. see owners manual for instructions pretty simple. Had a tow dolly once and it was a royal pain. Would not do it again.

RE: traveling down I-5 So. Ca.

There is a Flying J at Frazier Park. Also the Smokey Bear Rd RV Park is a Coast to Coast Park and you need to be a member. There are a couple of RV Park before the Grapevine but I cannot remember where.

RE: Fueling at Truck Stops

If you stay with Flying J and use the seperate RV Islands you will do fine. When the RV Island line is crowded I use the Truck islands. But generally I can get in and out using the RV side. If you go to the Flying J web site they have a map of the locatins.

RE: Honda CR-V

Roy:
The important thing is that the last gear you move to nutral from has to be a forward gear. Do Not go from R to N.
I installed a battery disconnect switch on the battery simply because I am old, can't get down on knees etc., and that is the easiest way to make sure I don't drain the battery. Granted, you lose your presets on the radio, but if you are miles away from home it does not matter. If you have Navi then you just input the code as instructed and you are good to go.

RE: RV Park in Nappa / Sonoma Ca

If you do not mind driving a few miles to Napa and Sonoma the KOA in Petaluma has big rig sites, full hookups and is a nice park. I know that the RV Park in Napa does not have sewer, but does have a dump.

RE: Speed Bump and Strange Symptoms

If you cross over speed bumps at an angle the coach will rock hard from side to side. If I have to cross over one at an angle I let the coach go over it very very slowly, just inch it across to reduce the rocking. I would suspect that your symptoms are unrelated to the rocking. Is the air conditioner on a thermostat control or is it just on? If you have it in the thermostat mode switch to contstant air.

RE: How Should I do the Oregon Coast?

The best way to go is north to south so that the ocean will be on your right. Also stop at http://www.marinarvresort.com/. The OR state parks are excellent reservations necessary

RE: Heading to Napa Valley

Make sure you visit St. Helens and stop at Taylor's Refresher for lunch or dinner. It is a converted drive in that has super food. Also make a visit to the Olive Oil Manufactory, they have their own trees and process their own olive oil.

RE: Procedure for towing Honda CRV

I just towed my CRV San Diego to Key West and return. The procedure I used was
Start engine shift from park to lowest forward gear and then shift up to drive and hold it there for 3 minutes. Then place the shift lever into Netural and turn off engine. You will note that you cannot fully turn off the key and you are essentially in the accessory position which is good - this will allow the front wheels to track properly. I use a battery disconnect to turn off those hiddent draws on the battery. DO NOT go to reverse gear during any of this procedure. The last gear you should be in is a foward gear before you shift to Netural.
Other important points - do not exceed 65mph and every 8 hours of towing you must repeat the above procedure.

RE: Freightliner Ride Height

If you don't know what you are doing then you are going to seriously hurt yourself. Do yourself a favor and take your coach to the Colton Truck Terminal and Garage in Colton CA which is east of LA. I had my Freightline done there and it cost me $100. They are also a good place for service. Good people.

RE: Where to park on beach near San Diego

It will be tough to find a beach site in San Diego. The Gov. is going to close two ocean front parks, Carlsbad State Beach and the one in Coronardo. Budget problems. Chula Vista, county parks in Oceanside and Santee are good. Look up county parks on web. Things to see and do Sea World, Zoo, Wild Animal Park. Depending upon your timing you might be able to see the Del Mar Fair. Stay away from Tijuana MX. Big problems with Drug Cartels they are killing each other and are having street gun battles with the police.
