RE: Throttle body spacers...Performance mod or myth?

How do you drop a Throttle Body Spacer down the intake manifold ?most folks know them as washersI think he meant a bolt spacer - a hollow tube of sorts.flat hollow tube :)

RE: Throttle body spacers...Performance mod or myth?

My experience starts and ends with a story.
I know a guy who claimed it worked and my stepson tried it. The first guy was kind of gadget guy and would try anything. My stepson dropped a spacer down the intake and had to order a long block to fix the mistake.
IMO, they are just like most of the things that improve mpg, they might work; adjusting tire pressure to max and driving habits are by far the biggest help, a throttle plate spacer may help also, but the gain will be small for the $.

RE: CB radio recommendation

Funny folks talk about the language from truckers... here the local gravel pit uses a CB, in the summer the agricultural migrants use the CB, Loggers use the CB... and I rarely hear foul language. I'm on the thing all the time and traveling there has been a whopping once that we have noticed bad conduct in the last 5 years.

RE: Can a 1/2 Ton Truck Pull a Fifth Wheel?

Technically you may be able to tow a 5er with a 1/2 ton truck... many will say go ahead... many will say not enough truck...
The in laws used to tow their 22'TT with a Durango, the Durango technically could pull that trailer, but it wasn't happy about it.
And half the responses you are going to get, from the men half, say asking if you need a bigger truck is a rather stupid question. Of course, we all need bigger badder trucks, it is a guy thing (insert Tim The Tool Man Grunt).

RE: finding non-bio diesel

Most WA and OR diesel is B5. I tried 1 tank of B20 in my 01, power, mileage and fuel filter all suffered.
You must have found a bad supply then. You shouldn't notice a power decrease in the least with B20 on the non common rail engines. Fuel filter will suffer if it's the first time running a higher % bio diesel. Bio diesel cleans everything out for you. Especially on a high mileage #2 diesel only vehicle. Mileage dropped because yur fuel filter started getting dirty. On the older diesels (Non Common rail) they don't normally see any difference even running B100.
I have used many tankfuls of B20 in my 08F450 6.4 and it runs great, no problems at all. I think many of you need to read up on Bio fuels and educate yourselves about it, I did. Try this link. www.biodiesel.org
My thoughts exactly.
bleedwater, the best bet is to educate yourself.
I have run up to B100 in my 01. It also had a 5% restriction, iirc, when it was new. But answer me this, how is it the same truck, with no modification, if bought by a municipality or the military can run B20? Honestly I'm not sure how they would know that you ran one tank of a higher percentage though a motor, as long as you didn't do it consistently. I think you are making this too hard on yourself.
At our house we currently have no gas powered vehicles. Chain saw, generator, lawn mower and weed whacker are all gas; gas is a stinky nasty messy fuel and if I didn't need to use it I wouldn't.

RE: Basic Diesel Ownerhip tricks

On an 05 I wouldn't use any fuel additives except maybe something in the winter to prevent gelling, but I don't live in the NE.
Plug in when the overnight temps are consistantly below 40F, it forms a habit so I don't see the wire fly as I back up in the am. The truck seems to run better when it has been plugged in, I equate that to a happy truck.
In the morning I do apply the parking break and put it in N for maybe a minute or two until the oil has had a little while to circulate, then drive lightly for the first few miles until I start getting warm air out the vents. If it has been plugged in it gets warmer sooner.

I wonder if it would be worth carrying some wide masking tape to temporarily manually dim them.

RE: Highway 101 North of Seaside OR and Astoria WA

For the most part it is a good 2 lane highway.
I don't recall exactly where but someplace between Aberdeen and Forks there are some bridges that could be wider. We had a loaded Log truck followed by an 18 wheeler take their half out of the center, and there wasn't enough room for us both on that bridge. Luckily we got the 5er stopped in time to let them pass, traffic was light except for them, and we were able to get on our way.
We would really like to travel the entire PAC 101 from S. Cal all the way ?? Is this possible? during March weather.
A great trip!

RE: I need help "finding" our "home" state please

Welcome to the forum.
Great first post.
I hope you find what you are looking for.
I would recommend Oregon, great vehicle license fees, no sales tax, but we have outrageous income taxes.

RE: GPS

There are settings in our GPS that allow you to change the type of vehicle you are in. I leave ours on truck/bus rather than car for this reason, I have yet to be "got."
Which one do you have?I think it is a Garmin C340

RE: Fixed it myself :)

Good Job...I truly believe that 90% of the repairs needed on RV's can be done by the consumer. Most dealerships have inexperienced guys working on your RV that know less than you do. They certainly will not do as good of a job as you would yourself. Plus they will charge you an arm and a leg to do it. I do almost all of my own repairs/maintenance when needed.
Happy travels.Agree totally!!

RE: Blood Test Mania!!!

To a degree I can see the testing. The need to know is based on a therapeutic level of medicine in the blood, you would probably find they would do the same to you if you were on that type of drug. My son took a medicine a few years back and when he took it, as prescribed, it reached a toxic level in his blood. The reason it wasn't toxic regularly was he was not compliant when it came to taking his med when he was supposed to.
