09 Ram 2500 rail install

Has anyone installed 5th wheel hitch rails on a 2009 Dodge Ram 2500? I was told by the dealer that one has to use the bolt-on brackets on the frame, no drilling and no welding (voids frame warranty). I kept my Reese hitch but need new rails installed. I found them on-line ($200) and the install doesn't look to difficult. Just wondering if anyone has installed them on their own and if so how hard to do? Don't want to pay the $500 quoted to install them. Price was $700 for rails and install, think that's a little steep.

Towing capacity TT versus 5ver

Can someone tell me if the towing capacity for a TT is the same as the capacity for towing with a 5ver? I'm trying to find out what the actual towing weight for my truck is if I'm pulling a 5th wheel verses the weight listed in my book for a trailer. The only thing is states is if the trailer is over 10,000lbs a 5th wheel hitch is recommended.

RE: Towing with a 02 2500 Ram

I failed to say it was a diesel with an auto transmission and I do ok on the flats but it's the grades that are causing me some trouble. I also had it serviced and they found out the trans. speed sensor was bad, could this cause loss of power when a load is put on it?? thanks for all your answers

Towing with a 02 2500 Ram

My 02 Dodge Ram 2500 club cab, short bed,5.9 with a 3:55 rear end states trailer cap. at 9600lbs. Is this weight a safe weight or is this the max my truck will tow? Has anyone else have the same set-up and if so how much do you tow. I realize towing through Kansas versus the Rocky Mts. are two totally different cases but what is the max that anyone of you have towed that your truck can handle?

Raising my 5ver on my leaf springs

Can someone tell me what is the easiest way to raise my 5ver on my leaf springs. I have an additional 2 holes that I can use and gain about 3-4 inches of height on the rear of the rv. Reason for doing this is my 5ver sits higher in the front than rear, I can also can another 2+ inches by lowering the hitch on the front of my 5ver. I have 2 sets of brackets and one in the middle of the springs, does one go all three at one time or do one bracket at a time?

Follow up question to your replys (leveling my 5ver)

I've done some measuring and here's what I got, I can use the bottom hole in the leaf spring bracket and gain 2 1/2 inches, move the pin hitch up to the top hole and gain 2 1/2 inches. If this sets the pin hitch too close to the bed rails I can raise the hitch head in the bed higher (right now it is low as it will go) if I need to lift the camper off the rails more. How much clearance is recommended between nose of camper and bed rails? I can gain 5 inches total with the trouble of putting my leaf springs on top of my axles, what does anyone think about all of this??

leveling my 5ver

My 5ver sits high in the front, I have one set of holes on the main hitch that I can get about 3 inches lower and that is all. The actual hitch in the bed is as low as the holes permit. Does anyone know how else I can get the 5ver to drop more in the front? I have an 02 Ram 3/4 ton, 4x4 shortbed with the camper paackage in the rear. When I load the 5ver on the truck it only lowers the bed a few inches but I feel the front end is still too high when going down the road.

RE: hole in my rv siding

The hole is right behind the awning brackets, I had a ladder against the side fixing torn awning and failed to move it when I rolled up the awning, caught the very edge of the ladder with the bracket and pushed it into the siding, stupid, stupid stupid!!

Leveling a 5ver

Got out and practiced hooking and unhooking today, did ok, but ran into a problem trying to level out 5ver, driveway slopes so I placed 2x12+ down on one side to level, no problem till I tried to unhook, I have a Reese 15K and only pivots front to back not side to side, so I found out I could not release hitch due to a bind, so what is the secret ( other than parking on a level site or buying a 16K) to be able to raise one side of 5ver and unhook hitch?

Winter Workamping

We're looking to see if there is a web site or book, etc. that list rv parks by states for winter camping. When I do searches it usually brings me to the gated 55+ retirement centers, not what I'm looking for. Wanting to find a place to park a 5ver for next winter. Any personal places that you have been to and enjoyed please feel free to share with us. We would like to be in the southeast, TN, Alabama,NC or Sc area. Thanks for any input you can give us.

CSP rv coverage

Received a letter today inviting me for a free quote on CSP offered by Good Sams. Has anyone ever used this coverage and in your opinion was it worth it? Just purchased a 01 Coachman 5ver and tossing the idea around.

RE: In bed electrical plug location

Mine.
No drilling other than 2 small screws to hold the bracket.
No splicing into factory wiring.

This and a bracket is all you need or make your own for about $25.00. Bracket $5.00.

how did you get it from below the bumper up to where it is now? Is that a spray in liner or drop in?
