RE: Generator Exercise

Maybe plug in a 1500 Watt portable heater, if you don't have built in heat strips which most RVs have. JMTCW

RE: Dometic NDA1402 fridge

If this is an older unit, like 10 years, then there is the possibility that the ammonia solution in the reefer have separated partially. With old home gas reefers the answer was to set it upside down for a few days so that they could recombine. Look here for more info HowStuffWorks "Gas and Propane Refrigerators

RE: How to miss a leaking roof AC gasket for years!

If you are going to wait til next spring, I would cover the roof with visqueen to keep things dry.

RE: How to miss a leaking roof AC gasket for years!

One other thought I had on this is the rubber roof, it might be uneven under the gasket unless there is a mounting flange. If this is the case, you might want to make a flange out of some 1 or 2 inch wide aluminum angle to fit the hole and have a solid gasketing surface. just glue the flange to the roof with Dicor or something similar. The angle is only about 1/8" thick so it should not cause a clearance problem. David is right about being careful not to over tighten the mounting bolts, as that can cause things to warp. JMTCW

RE: How to miss a leaking roof AC gasket for years!

Probably due to a faulty installation. Back in the early 70's I bought a used Airstream trailer, it did not have an AC so I bought a Coleman unit and installed it myself. I had that trailer over 20 years and never had the gasket leak. JMTCW

RE: What weight of trailer/For F150 4 X 4 - 1995

If you have never had a TC before, the best advice I would give you is to find a place to rent one and try it out. Hauling a top heavy TC is not everybodys cup of tea. With the truck being a 4X4, you're probably good for a ton of load if your tires LRE and the suspension is in good shape. JMTCW

RE: 1999-2003 F-series super-duty diesel recall (fire hazard)

This has been ongoing for around 30 years, if you own any ford, merc etc. vehicle with cruise you take it in for a check, before it burns you garage or house down.

RE: truck camper weight---again

Unless you know for a fact that they are checking RV's, I would not be to concerned. The police have enough to do checking the commercial vehicles. I have in the past driven vehicles in Northern Europe, including GB, Scotland,Norway, and Sweden I don't recall seeing a lot of cops stopping anyone, in fact I don't recall seeing any police on the highways. If it were me, I would just get going. :)

RE: truck camper weight---again

Drive it and don't fret about it. The truck is not going to collapse on you. If you get stopped don't answer any questions that are not asked. I am a lot more overloaded than you and have never had any problems in many tens of thousands of miles. Just remember, you are driving a beast and not a sports car.

RE: truck camper weight---again

My own opinion is that you are better off with the dually as it spreads the weight out over 6 tires instead of 4. In my experience the dually is a more stable loaded vehicle. You axle rating and tire load capacity is your limit. Weigh the front and back axle loads individually, divide the front axle load by two and see if you are under the max tire load(at max air pressure), do the same for the rear axle, but divide by four. As long as you are under the max tire load you're ok. JMTCW

RE: DINGHY TOWING

If your Tranfer case shifter has a neutral position, you can probably tow 4 down. My 99 Tacoma 4X4 with manual tranny is not listed for towing 4 down, but I talked to the local Toyota service manager about it and he said it should be ok. I have towed it for years, many thousands of miles all over the USA, coast to coast with no problems. Go and talk to an experienced service manager.

RE: Method to measure sidewall cracks in tires

Why risk your life, if the tires are over 5 years old and have any checking in the side walls, buy new tires, reguardless of tread left.

RE: A broken Cummins is "ALIVE AGAIN" I'm Back!

Yes it does, I was out in the middle of the Arizona desert a few years ago, miles from anywhere and my fuel injection pump died. Luckily there was a state cop sitting right in front of me when I finally got all 18000 lbs stopped without power brakes. He called me a wrecker and they towed me to the nearest town which had a crysler dealership. I was out of warrenty and it cost $2500 to get a new VP put on. Fortunately, after a few calls to Chrysler they agreed that this was an ongoing problem and sent me a check for the $2500. That made me a happy camper.

Congradulations on a job well done, I know it made you feel great when that baby came to life. You truck looks to be a twin of mine. I just finished a minor repair on mine, on my last trip up in the mountains, my exhaust manifold split in half and I just got it all back together the other day.

RE: generac 36 LP PLUS

I have this generator in my Lance and a few years ago this problem started coming up in the groups so I did some digging around for info and found that if the oil pressure doesn't build up in time it will shut down on low oil pressure. I changed the oil and filter and put in Mobil 1 5/20 and have not had any issues with the generator other than you should let it warm up for a few minutes before adding load.

Just a thought, if you are in cold weather you might need to shift to a lighter weight synthetic oil like mobil-1 5W30.

RE: Battery Isolator vs. Battery Relay

I don't think it is necessary to get at the alternator to install the Isolator, I have installed these in the past without getting to it. All you have to do is locate the "B" termial wire, which is large and usually red. Just cut it and make your tie ins. You can do the same with a solenoid, the only difference is one is mechanical and one is solid state, they both will do the job.
