RE: Dexter HD Suspension & EZ-Flex Install (long w/ pictures)

I will be doing my trailer this week and that is a good question. I just assumed that you start at the ez flex at the center and work you way out to the spring ends.
What is the consensus on where to begin before I get underway and start pressing bolts out?
Thanks

RE: Dexter HD Suspension & EZ-Flex Install (long w/ pictures)

Problem solved with the misaligned shackle. As suggested, I pressed out the offending bolt and reseated it with the shackle plate in place to hold it straight as it was pressed back in because it was trying to go in canted again. I am guessing like others that Dexter does not mention orientation of the holes in the shackle assys. I emailed them and will post if they reply.

RE: Dexter HD Suspension & EZ-Flex Install (long w/ pictures)

John,
The photo with your hand holding the shackle assy looks like the ones I got. It looks to me that the holes are facing downward at 6 o'clock. Am I missing something in the photo?
My bolts are canted inward toward each other. If they were canted outward, I would just put them in a vise or use a large c-clamp to align them to get into the shackle plate. It makes me mad that two are perfect and two are messed up. There should be some check for this at the factory. I guess there is no such thing as QA there.

RE: Dexter HD Suspension & EZ-Flex Install (long w/ pictures)

I just got my kit in the mail. Noticed that two of the four shackle plates do not exactly line up with the bolts pressed into the other shackles. They are about .050" off center. Should I open up the holes in the plates so that the bolts will go through or what? I have two pair that will slide all the way down the bolts and two that won't even enter the holes in the heavy duty plates.
Thanks
Trailer is 26FK 1996
Kit is K71-652-00
After some more inspection, I see that the pressed in shackle bolts have the grease holes at the 6 or 12 o'clock position (which ever way you hold it). I have read posts concerning these. Can someone set me straight on this. Are these Ok as they are or should Dexter send new assemblies with the 3 or 9 o'clock positioins?

RE: Michelin tire help on tow vehicle

Got back from a 1000 mile round trip to Atlanta for Spring Break with the kids. The new tires solved the whole sway problem. Between the new tires and shocks, it drives like new again, but much stiffer due to the 50psi in the tires. Those hills on I-75 were a killer, not used to them.
When not towing, can I run run the tires at 35psi to soften the ride?

RE: Triangle equalizer bar

Looks like I want to do the Dexter HD suspension kit also. Looks way better than the chinese piece that is in there now and all rusted. Sad to see that Sunnybrook was using chinese suspension parts even back in 96.

Triangle equalizer bar

I have a 96 Sunnybrook 26FK. Have been getting ready for a trip and wondered about lubricating the triangle equalizer bar that you can see that attaches the two leaf springs to the frame. They are original and trailer does not have a lot of miles on it. I can't believe it is original in 96 and the part has China visibly stamped on it. Anyway, since there are no grease fittings on it, should I puts some drops of oil at the pivot points or leave it alone. No one seems to ever talk about this suspension component.
Thanks,
Jay
