RE: E450 CAB FLOOR MAT

I specifically wanted a rubber one-piece mat (cuz I spill coffee). I found These for $60 and the fit is perfect and the color matches.

RE: Hauling Kayak's upside down

I have used pool noodles. You cur them to the proper length and slit them down the side and slip them over the cross bars. The foam used for the pool noodles is much more dense than pipe insulation. I now have the Thule racks.

RE: Ford V-10 or Chev 6.0 Vortec??

Since the OP is looking at a 31 footer, (IMO) the Ford (chassis)does have the advantage, especially if the new unit is an '08/09.
The 2008 E-Series rides on an improved chassis over previous years'. A series of upgrades to the braking, suspension and steering systems have resulted in improvements in ride and handling, braking performance and load carrying capability.
The chassis and suspension improvements have resulted in an increase in the maximum gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) from 14,050 pounds to 14,500 pounds. Additionally, the maximum front gross axle weight rating (GAWR) is increased by about 10 percent, from 4,600 pounds to 5,000 pounds.
The blown spark plug issue has also been resolved in the later model years.
This is a very hard question to answer if one is unwilling to seperate the chassis and/or tranny from the equation. I have owned both engines and in the simplest form; they (the engines) will both do the job.

RE: Trail Lite R-Vision

That unit is over priced. These units (the Monaco badge) was going for 61K,(brand new) which was right after the bankruptcy. Several dealers received exceptional pricing, due to Monaco needing cash to keep afloat. MSRP on these units were in the 92-95K.
I got mine for 58K new (2009- 28' model). I've had this unit since March, and have not had one issue with it. Also realize that due to the bankruptcy this unit is an orphan (at least for now) and may not have support for the manufactures warranty. I would not be afraid to purchase this unit, but I would push for a lower price in the low to mid 60K range.
We downsized from a 38'dp, and are really satisfied with ours.

RE: Should I have to pay? The Results

They also told me that they could not gaurentee that they wouldn't break a windshield when prying them out to remove them. So they didn't say they wouldn't pay. Just that they couldn't guarantee that the glass would not be damaged.
Seriously: do you have a written copy of their policy? What they verbally say can hardly be called a contract unless both parties FULLY understand and agree upon the terms. I would have a hard time paying, unless I signed a paper.
BTW: How have you been doing Larry? Been a loooong time!

RE: Trail Lite R-Vision

That unit is not 22 feet long. That unit is a 29 footer. Monaco makes (made)these units also with the Holiday Rambler, and Safari names. I have the 28 foot Monaco version with the double slide. Look at the pics of the interior and it will become clear that nobody can fit all of that in a 22 footer. Since the bankruptcy of Monaco all of these units are now hard to find. Here is a link to the HR version.

RE: Well I guess its official that the economy is in the dumps

HD produced 100K units in 1996, and 300K units in 2006. How may bikes did they think the country would buy? The market was close to being flooded with HD's several years ago.

RE: MPG?

I've put on 1500 miles and have averaged 8.95mpg, always towing, with the exception of a couple hundred miles when I picked it up. Maybe it'll get better once it gets broken in. I drive 55-60mph.

Seriously; do you think he would have told you that the business is in the crapper? Don't get me wrong, saying things are promising is the right approach.....even if some of us don't believe it.

RE: What should we look out for when buying a new 2009 RV?

Can't imagine buying a new one. There are so many great deals out there just now ..... you are sure to find a high quality (perhaps a step or two up from your original budget) unit with all the items on your wish list, and someone else has taken the depreciation hit and worked the bugs out. Have you considered this??
I just purchased a 2009, which was discounted to a point that it (price) was comparable on some used units. Also if borrowing, the interest rates are better on the new units.
Good luck and keep us posted!!

RE: Battery Life

Battery life varies, depending how it is maintained. There is a misconception out there that the best thing for deep cycle batteries is to completely drain them before charging. In fact this practice allows for the formation of excessive sulfinates, which after time ruins the battery. Recharging prior to 80% discharge is what is normally reccommended. If you recharge ~50% discharge, you're battery will last much much longer.
Batteries should also be charged properly in three stages: 1)bulk charging, which rapidly brings the charge to ~80% charge. 2) absorbtion charge, which slowly brings the charge to 100% and 3) float which maintains the charge. Some lower end rv's may or may not have a three stage charger.
If you subject a discharged battery to freezing temperatures, the battery will be ruined. Allowing a battery to lose all of the water also shortens the life.
I've had coach batteries last 5-6 years with proper maintenence. This is after I discovered how to ruin 4, 6 volt batteries less than two years old.:S

RE: going smaller

We just downsized this past spring. We had a 2000 Monaco 38 ft Diplomat w/2 slides for the past seven years. Like you, due to our changing camping/traveling styles,we decided the bus didn't fit our camping/traveling style any longer. Some of the things we enjou about the smaller B+ is: MUCH easier getting around in parking lots, campgrounds, etc.
We actually prefer the slight overhang above the windshield. Although the view isn't as panoramic, as in the dp, the sun doesn't burn you up either.
My dp also had one entry door in the front. It's also much more convenient now that we have three doors.
Of course you lose the massive storage capabilities, including fresh water, fuel, waste tanks.
Of course some expenses with the smaller unit also diminish somewhat. Tires are cheaper, not as many batteries, insurance and licensing are also less expensive.
All-in-all, we're glad we made the move.

RE: What are classes B + and super C

'B+' was probably coined because of customer perception. Marketing-speak droids figured that it would be easier to sell something called a 'B Plus' than a 'C Minus' .... even tho' that's closer to the truth.
Mine is a Monaco, and marketed as a class B+. However I would have to agree with the above poster; it's closer to a C- :h

RE: Bad Idea or Good idea to buy new Safari RV

I did just that. I purchased the Monaco version of that rig. I got mine at 40% off MSRP. Realize that if you look around, they're not many of them around, as the production run was limited due to the bankruptcy. These units have many features: full body paint, soft touch ceilings, solid surface counters, etc. The ONLY issue mine had, was a cracked kitchen counter. The dealer gave me extra $$ off, and I had a local contractor replace the counter and under-mount the sink. If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.

RE: Ever met another RV.net member?

The easiest way to meet members is to go to one of the gatherings that are put together by members. Go to the Rallies and Gatherings forum on this site and pick one close to ya. While these gatherings carry the name RV.NET, they are not sponsored by Affinity, Good Sam, or any corp
Good advice, we too have also met lots of people from the forum at the ralleys. Remember the 1st one Pat??
I god rid of my sticker with the old rig. Thing was faded so bad you couldn't read it. I tried to remove it but it stuck tighter than eternabond! I wouldn't put another on though.

RE: High mileage ...

Seeing that it's a repossessed unit, I would be very cautious. People that lose their vehicles, as a general rule, don't take very good care of things.
