RE: Home phone number

We tried to drop our land line but discovered that the home security system will not work with out it. Tell your security company that you need a GSM-monitored system because you want to eliminate your phone line. Might cost $10 more a month, but will be more dependable and and impossible to cut. If they can't or won't do it for you (and assuming you're out of contract), look into alarmrelay.com, nextalarm.com or geoarm.com. You might find that you can switch to a wholesale GSM provider and pay less than you do now for phone-based monitoring. If you don't want to go GSM, you can also now do broadband internet monitoring from those same companies.

RE: Trouble in storage

We had a lot of damage from that same windstorm up here in Weber County last week. I looked out the window at about 4am and saw a 50ft pine fall onto my trailer. I thought it was a goner, but the trunk missed it by inches (a little damage from limbs). We feel very fortunate!

RE: Cradlepoint Router thru-put question

Could you explain what "WiFi as Wan" is and how it works? Thank you "WiFi as Wan" just means connecting a router to the internet via a WiFi connection (instead of a an aircard, DSL, Cable, etc), after which it can be shared again locally, by way of ethernet or WiFi. It's nothing new, many of us have been doing it for years using two routers, or a router and a wireless bridge. Some of the new hotspot devices now do "WiFi as Wan" in a single unit, like the Cradlepoint and WiFiRanger routers. This, when combined with the ability to fall back to an aircard, allow you to pretty much always have an internet connection among all the devices in your coach.

RE: Cradlepoint Router thru-put question

I use a cradlepoint CTR500 with a Sony TM506 phone tethered via USB (like an aircard), and "wifi as wan" through the ethernet port with a Ubiquiti Bullet, and throughput is increased quite a bit through both ports if you turn OFF both traffic shaping and stateful packet inspection. Still not as fast as if connected directly to a computer. Try that and see if it makes a difference.
