RE: I still read books, the kind without batteries!

One thing that could effect these and all electronic devises would be an EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse). Never rely solely on electronic devices. I prefer the Fuddy-Duddy System as a backup. You know, PAPER. Implausible as it might be, I try never to leave things to chance. Just a thought and nothing to argue over though.

RE: I still read books, the kind without batteries!

I didn't notice on previous posts, but did you ever try to kill a cockroach with an E-Book? It makes a splatter all over the screen.:E YES :E DW gets all hers a thrift shops and yard sales free or at little or no expense. The trees KILLED in the making of THESE books was done by someone else, so she is mealy an accessory after the fact.:B Yuck it up people, they're only little books.:B

RE: Desktop Keyboard & Coffee don't mix

It is strang that the only key effected were the top row of "F" keys, which she does not use. The key mechanisms were stuck in either down (2 of them)or up (3 of them)positions. It was not a matter of liquid penetrating a membrane, but more like a puddle that became a hardened glue. Everything is still fine and she even bought a new mouse to replace the broken Kennsington (trash can-cheap) and now she has a wired Logitech.

RE: Desktop Keyboard & Coffee don't mix

Thanks for all tip tips. I watched a Youtube video a while back where a guy soaped one up, scrubbed it with a big brush and then put it in the washer. At the end it was toast, but he probably didn't allow it to dry thoroughly. If hers acts up again I refer to your tips. She hate for me to tinker with her stuff unless she asks for it.

Evoluent VM3R2-RSB Vertical Mouse 3

Has anyone tried this new style of mouse? Link I've loved my 5-button Intellimouse for so long that this looks like it would be easier on the wrist while still offering the versatility of all the programmable buttons.

RE: Desktop Keyboard & Coffee don't mix

DW had similar problems with HP printers. I finally found the pulling the power plug from the wall, waiting a seconds, and then plugging it back in solved the problems. It's like so many PC related problems in this day and age. A complete reboot fixes many problems. Probably the same solution in some of the newer all electronic controlled cars now a days. Maybe a big RED reboot button in cars would help.

Desktop Keyboard & Coffee don't mix

This AM I heard those dreaded words, "Can you help me, my computer is acting strange". OH BOY, something needs fixing. I live for this.:S Had to remind DW that coffee spills on a keyboard can make the Keys stick down or up as the case may be. She had all sorts of troubles with popup windows not working and/or opening by themselves. It was the last thing I checked when running through what I thought was the problem. With some FIRM banging to push some stuck keys down and some prying to pop others up I cured THAT problem. Next,I found that her cheap Kensington Mouse had eaten some bad cheese and was doing weird things, so I gave her my Great Intellimouse and I got out an old Intellimouse (I never through anything out till they are broken). So, all is once again quiet. She admitted to various spills in the past, so I guess she's been lucky. Who could have imagined of 2 problems popping up at the same time. Maybe a kids "Sippy Cup" would help.

RE: Actions that melt my brain

Walked into a large hardware/building supply store and not seeing what i needed asked the girl employee near by, "where is your Linseed Oil please"? Where upon she replied, "Lin-ah-seed-oil"? "Sorry, I have no idea what that is". After a little more isle cruising I found what I needed. This is why I never ask for information in a computer store.DUHHHH.

RE: Know your prices!!!!

There used to be term that described this type of "alleged" mistake, but I forget what it was. In some super markets some managers would have checkers (register people) make mistakes to boost the sales totals. Things never change. But, honest mistakes DO happen.

RE: Stop the Tracking Paparazz

So, all that is left to track you are the "Do not track" aps themselves? Not to mention your ISP. I am a born skeptic and trust little.

RE: Verizon kills unlimited data plans for existing subscribers

I figured out what is meant by "Bundles" and "Smart Phones". They are a "Smart" way for the vendor to make an absolute "Bundle". We still use the old Stupid phone that only knows how to receive and Make calls. BUT, they (Verizon) keeps inching up the charges on they're lowest plan of $39.95 by increasing the "Fees" and "Taxes". But golly gee, the rate stays the same, DUHHH. If you want to play then you have to pay.

RE: Does this one look good??

On sale from what dealer? Have you done a Google search for reviews? Satellites are know for having a lot of heat and a Quad Processor might be hotter then you need.

RE: Shopping failures...

Also stores will go by the square foot. J.C. Penny has a humungous warehouse in Reno where they will receive goods from other states near the end of the year that would be taxed due to an inventory tax at the end of the year. They ship it back after the first. Also Nevada has no corporate income tax which help many companies, like amazon. I remember a hardware store in Philadelphia back in the 40's and 50's that had floor after floor of what ever a person might want, but eventually they closed because it was just to expensive to hold onto everything. I notice they every time I go to wally World there are fewer and fewer varieties of various products. If it doesn't sell in a given period of time it's out of there. Eventually they'll have to tax the internet sales to make up for the loses in the retail stores I guess.

RE: Can you bear to part with your "man toys"?

I too got rid of a vast majority of those Man Tools etc, but now back in sticks and bricks I was FORCED to but all new toys and many of them just to make one job easier, now I need another project to use that tool. As I look around my Man-cave room I wonder how a man can live without TOYS. And YES, I can't get rid of old stuff because I MIGHT need it........... in another life maybe?

RE: Amazon Order Cancelled

So are these strange emails coming thru Yahoo or Gmail or ALL email accounts? I use gmail and in many years I only see 9 spams, where yahoo has almost that many every day.

RE: Apple accounts getting hacked

And to think that they used to say that sending cash in an envelope along with an order was a bad idea. Who new. There is much good about the good old days, at least they only got a little cash instead of your entire life savings.

:B x100 That is the best treatment for unsolicited phone calls I've ever hear. I need to work up a script just in case. I'm still chuckling over it.:C

RE: HMMMM... I wonder...

My question is still, WHY would anyone open any email that so blatantly looks like spam or worse? Some of these hurt just by clicking on them. No wander so many folks get virus', not to mention that by opening it you are letting the sender know that your email address is good for more mailings.
