RE: Refueling At Gas Stations While Towing A TT

How often have you had to park the TT somewhere else nearby a gas station (e.g., WalMart), then unhitch your TT, get gas, then rehitch?
Never.
Ditto, if there's no way to get in/out, I go elsewhere.

RE: Welding ?

I have seen wheel bearings, waterpumps and alternators damaged by welding on the vehicle with the battery attached.
Not trying to be antagonistic, but I can't see how a wheel bearing could possibly be affected by a welder, unless you're welding in close proximity and maybe melt the seals. We're talking about electronics here, not mechanical issues. Please explain...

RE: ....So.......were your parents right...........??

D. I'm now in my 5th decade, and have realized for a while now my parents were actually the smartest people I knew growing up. Would have answered A. though when I was a teen.

RE: F250 Super Duty and a ultra lite TT

Similar setup, 2000 F250 towing a Rockwood Ultralight weighing approx 6500 lbs. I could probably get by without the WDH (and do when just moving it around in the storage lot), but use it when on the road. The Equal-i-zer has integrated sway control, so that's a good reason to use it even if we didn't want / need the WD function.

RE: What is decent pay for odd jobs?

I wouldn't compare your odd jobs to babysitting. A babysitter is being entrusted with a human life, so should expect to make more, considering the responsibility. For the type of work you're talking about, I'd pay no more than $6-$7 per hour. I may be wrong (have been known to be in the past), but I don't think these workers would be considered "employees" and minimum wage wouldn't be a consideration. Oh, and I wouldn't even consider doing this without an umbrella liability policy in place. We have $1M in liability through our homeowner's policy.

RE: NY LIMITS FIREWOOD TO 50 MILE RADIUS

Have to disagree with those stating this is a moneymaking ploy. Colorado has basically the same rules, and for good reason. We have vast areas of NF infected with non-native insects and diseases. The bans on transportation of firewood were implemented for one (good) reason; to stop the transfer of these pests and save the remaining forests.
I can be cynical if the need arises, but in this case, these rules are valid and should be enforced.

The way to choose is to flip a coin. If you like the results of the flip go for it...

RE: Do I really need an oven?

Only you can answer whether you need an oven, but based on your comments, I'd say you've pretty much decided you don't. Our oven has never been used...it's now permanent storage for pots and pans.

RE: Craigs List & towing FEMA trailers?

Until they get to the point of requiring an up-front fee to guarantee a position, I'd say there's no harm in talking to them. If it turns out to be a scam and all they have is your phone number, you can always block their calls.

RE: How to jack up my right side.

Use whatever you normally use for leveling (Lynx blocks, wood, etc) and pull the TT up on a stack high enough to lift the second tire off the ground. Reverse process for the first tire.

RE: TV Miles per year - how many is not enough.

No, I meant 20,000 miles. However, we do not drive nearly enough.
not sure how you're going to get to 20,000 miles / year driving 35 miles / month.

RE: The gas/diesel debate - not an issue for 1-tonners?

Ok, I've read and tried to follow some of the gas/diesel debate as we consider what we might purchase for a tv. But, here's my question... We'd be buying used, and I simply don't see the gassers out there in the 1-ton category. When I do searches for what we'd be looking at (crew cabs less than 5 years old, reasonable mileage), I find one Dodge Hemi, no Chevy 8.1's, and 2 Ford V-10's within 100 miles of our house. Meanwhile, the same parameters generate 10-15 times as many diesels. So, am I missing something? Or, is it basically a non-issue when it comes to the 1-ton vehicles?
Nope, you're not missing anything. In this range, diesels simply outperform gas.

RE: Toyota thumbs it's nose

at the US congress. Congress has called Toyota to come for a hearing. Mr. Toyota said no he won't come. Gonna send a small time lackey to take the heat.
All the decisions are made in Japan. But he is sending the cheif of US operations,(also a Japanese citizen) who can make no decisions, to the hearing.
Tell me again it is not a foreign company.
WHO said it was not as foreign company? I (who owns a Tundra) am not pleased at all the hoopla, but can we give a rest already? Every day a thread gets closed down and then someone has to crank it up the next day!! And NO, I am NOT defending the MFG!!
Good gravy!!!
A little sensitive, aren't we?
