RE: F-250 Truck with 5.4L gas engine

True,It doesn't compare too the CTD that I own,but for 5K for a very nice truck I couldn't turn it down. After all I could use another truck. Its a 2000 model and has 3.73 gears. Also came with lockout hubs from the factory.I've ordered a class v hitch, towing mirrors, etc.so I shall see how it tows my current TT once I install the hitch.Might use the truck to tow locally when we camp.I will have to modify my receiver about 4in due to the truck sitting higher than the CTD but still should be OK with the dodge too.

F-250 Truck with 5.4L gas engine

Does anyone tow with this set up and if so what do you tow?Just purchased a very nice low mile truck with this set up.It was such a good deal I couldn't pass up.The truck is 12 yrs old with 63K miles on it and looks as if its only 2 yrs old.The person I bought it from ordered it new with the towing package, but didn't get a hitch with it.He never towed anything with it,it still has the rubber gromett in the bumper too.Its a single cab, long bed,4x4.Thanks for any replies

truck tag

Went to the DMV last week to transfer a tag to another truck. The lady told me my tag was only good for 700# of towing or hauling, since my truck weighed 5300#,and my tag was good for 6000#.Thats strange, since I've used the same tag for the past 4 years towing a 8000# TT.Which she informed me that if the weight men would have pulled me over to weigh my rig then I would get a ticket.I did tell her if thats the case then I'm not the only one over my tag limits.I kept the same tag, because by what she told me I would have to go too a P-tag,which cost alot more based on your max weight.Anyway what does the other states do?

RE: Smokies, Cataloochee CG??

It can be done. But like stated its going to be tight.I would suggest to start into the park @ day break to maybe avoid some of the traffic.Around 8;30-9;00 folks will start to come and go and backing might be a little hairy if you meet someone. We go too the cherokee area @ least twice a year and always make a trip over there to see the Elk,turkeys, bears, and other wildlife. It is very beautiful. My TT is too big to make it in there but maybe one day I might buy a small one for places like this. You can go in from Maggie Valley next to I-40 or you can come in from the Tennessee side @ Cosby. Also the nearest store for any type of supplies is appox.1 hr away from the C/G.Hope you have fun!

RE: Best TT tires?

Maxxis or Michelins.I bought the Maxxis 1.5 yrs ago and so far no problems.Just a side note. You would think that the trailer and tire dealerships would take heed and read about what the consumer is saying about certain brands. But I guess not.As long as theres a demand for a cheap tire that the dealerships can double there money on I guess there will be no changes. For them its so easy to blame the problems on under inflation, overloading, driving too fast for the rating, and improper maintance.Which probley does account for 60% of tire failures. But what about the other 40%?

RE: Explain the sequence of your TT water lines

Thanks for the replies so far.The waterline schmatics is good. The valves are my low point drains.I hope to get too work on it this weekend.Sure wish that the compartment where all the valves, filter, pump is located was alot larger! They sure don't make it easy to work on.My access is maybe 12 x 12.

Explain the sequence of your TT water lines

OK,Here is my question. How does the valves work inside the compartment of the TT?I have 2 valves, and if I turn them one way it lets the water drain out under the TT.Are these valves 3-way or 2-way valves?I'm really needing a schmatic of my waterlines, inline filter, and water pump, which I don't have.I had problems with my TT waterlines on my last weekend trip and had to bypass the filter and valves just to get water in the lines. All along I might have been doing something wrong with the way I've been switching the valves.I took the filter out of the housing, and had water in the housing, but for some reason I couldn't get any water no futher.I'm good @ alot of things but when it comes to plumbing I'm a dummy! This has never happened before either. We did notice last fall when using the water if you cut the water on anywhere @ the facuets we would hear a noise coming from the filter, pump, valve compartment, but always had water so I chalked it up as Oh well, thats common. And we always use a regulator outside. Thanks for any replies Matt

RE: propane alarm

After 2 years of use ours did the same thing.I did check for gas leaks but found none.I also found out that any alchol based product will set the thing off to.Hair spray, open liquor bottle, jello shooters, sun tan products, and yes, methane gas!

RE: plastic chocks/no chocks/tongue jeck wheels

Alot of folks just don't think. In both cases it maybe could have been prevented.I wonder how many vents on campers got torn off due to be cracked open a little.

RE: Carlisle tires prone to blow out

We had Carlisle tires on our TT.They came new on the TT.Three years later with less than 5K on them we had three out of four tires with seperation. The tred looked good and no dry rot on the tires.I always check my tires for proper inflation going and coming from camping,And don't travel over 62=65 mph.We too switched to Maxxis. No problems so far.As far as most tires being made in China? Why do you think that is?Its called Cheap Labor with very little quality control.I do agree that the TT manufactures do need to put a larger size tire on TT,But it comes down to cost.IMO it should be required to have a tire with a 10 percent over max weight of what the TT is rated for.

RE: water pressure issues in TT

I pulled the filter out, which was new,and tried it but still didn't get any water to go thru the lines.I had hot water @ all the facuets too,but the cold water facuet in the shower wouldn't work.I could only get a small trickle of water out of it.Thats when I bypassed the filter and valves and went stright from the outside line to the inside lines. Its just strange to have had both of them valves go bad and only one side of a facuet. But things do get wore out or go bad.One thing I was wondering about is maybe the filter housing has a check valve in it somewhere? If so then that could be the problem with the valves, but not the shower facuet.

water pressure issues in TT

Our 4 day camping trip got started off on the wrong foot. When we arrived @ the C/G I started setting up everything.Got to the water, hooked up and cut it on.No water!Anyway to make a long story short I ended up bypassing the water cutoff drain lines @ the filter to get water.I could turn the valves and see thru them but it appears that no water would run thru them.I also had one side of the shower facuet with no water.I guess it could be a bad facuet and water valves?I drained all the lines before winter but never had anything like this to take place. We had plenty of water pressure too.Kinda looks like I'm going to be replacing the facuet and the 3-way water valves.Anyone ever seen this before? Thanks

RE: Cat fishing and camping at Santee-Cooper South Carolina

Didn't think about Dreher S/P.Now thats way up on the upper end! After all he did say Santee Lake System huh?And it is a nice park.We prefer the second C/G on the end.

RE: Myrtle Beach State Park or Huntington??

I prefer Huntington beach S/P if were going to the myrtle beach area. The S/P don't have all the amendities that the big 4 private c/g's in myrtle beach have. But for what it cost for 2 nights at the private c/g we can stay the whole week @ the s/p's.If you like fishing like me and my D/W does and don't mind walking 3/4 of a mile or so then stay @ Huntington beach c/g.The south jetty of murrells inlet is @ the north end of the c/g and Very good fishing! At low tide in early morning you can ride your bike out to the jetty. But once the sun gets up and starts drying out the wet sand my big butt can't ride the bike back!LOL We usually pull a lawn wagon with all our gear, plus a small pop-up turkey blind with a bucket. They don't have bathrooms out there and its alot eaiser for the D/W. Have Fun!

RE: Air Conditioner

I agree with tvman44 on this one.Even if your cord was too small it would still start the a/c unit. Now the cord might get really hot quickly and could trip the circuit breaker. And its also possiable that the unit is low on freon, which means you have a leak somewhere in the unit.

RE: Electricity

Glad it worked out for ya.If your house was built in the past 10 years and your state uses the NEC guidelines all the recps in the garage, bathrooms, kitchen countertops, butler countertop, outside, recps within 6ft of a sink, and in unfinished areas of your house are supposed to be on GFCI.If your drop cord has a very small knick in it and it rained thats all it would take too trip it out.
