RE: Good or Bad DIY? let me have it.

Some days I don't get you guys... I've seen you rip on way higher quality DIY stuff and call it "redneck" "hillbilly" or "dangerous."
I say crude, but effective. The only concern I'd have is with the wedges in the springs, but the worst that can happen there is that they fall out and the truck sags a little...

RE: HPFP ??

Actually dspencer.........it's kinda funny when you think about it.
This morning "Team Mod" closed a thread about the Ridgeline after only 2 pages because a few members were beating up on it a bit, even though still on topic.
Ridge Thread
But because this post is about the Ford HPFP, I'll bet it runs up into 50 pages like all the other HPFP threads regardless of how far it strays of course.
No, it wasn't on topic. It was a thread about tow vehicles in the TOWING forum... I suppose they could've just moved it but all it was, was a bash-fest that was quickly circling the drain anyway...

RE: Water tank disinfection"newbie question"

Well obviously the first thing you need to do is get rid of the water that's already in there. You can do that by opening the low-point drains and letting it run on the ground, or by running it all into the gray & black tanks through the sink, shower, and toilet.
I would then flush it by filling the tank again with fresh water, add a bunch of bleach (whatever the USDA says is adequate to kill all bacteria), and then run it all out through the sink, shower, and toilet again. Use both hot and cold taps to get the water through all the lines.
Since this was originally asked in the towing forum, though, I would simply wrap a chain around the tank, hook it to the truck, put the truck in gear, and stomp on the skinny pedal.

RE: Pop TC Rotten Roof and an amateurs repair.

I went through all your pictures and I cannot see any bent mounts. Can you please identify which picture you are referring to?
Looks like an older Palomino which means it has the Heco scissor lift like mine
The bracket in the second to the last picture should rotate on the pipe.

RE: TC sitting for long time, how to put back in service?

Yeah, the process really isn't nearly that critical or scientific. The systems in the camper are far less complex and don't have near the tolerances as an engine.
All you can do is try each system, one at a time. Dust. Clean. Disinfect. Flush.

RE: Battery for TC

Is there a place to put a battery?
My 2000 Palomino has no place for a battery, so I'd imagine that there is no place for a battery on this older Palomino, unless a previous owner added it.

RE: Charging question

You need to locate the "converter" unit in your camper. It's usually attached to the end of the shore power cord. If not, it's attached to the breaker panel that the shore power cord is attached to.
The converter provides 12V power to the camper while plugged into shore power, and also charges your batteries while plugged into shore power.
If you unhook the battery and plug into shore power, do the 12V systems work in the camper? If not you have a problem with the converter.

RE: Trailer Tires

The highest load range you can commonly get in a 205-75R14 is C.
Load range C on that size tire is 1700-1800lbs per tire. Two would give you 3500-3600lbs of capacity on that tow dolly.
Have you got gold bricks stashed away under the hood of that VW or something?

RE: Help with weight numbers

Its a dually.
How do you get the steer axles numbers down ?
Would raising the 5th wheel hitch up or down lower the steer axles numbers. Or when I add the bikes and stuff to the garage will it make a diff.
There is nothing wrong with your steer axle number. You are at ~5000lbs, and the rating is 5500lbs.
You want the steer axle to have AT LEAST as much weight as it does when the truck is empty, preferably more. More weight means more traction for the steering tires. That means better handling with the weight of the trailer behind you.
Very likely it will not change much with additional weight in the 5th wheel.
Does the rig feel unsafe to drive? Do you have ANY doubts while driving it? Are people taking the ditch when they see you coming down the road?
IMHO being over the gross combined weight rating is not an issue, but that's MY opinion. It just slows you down. As long as you are under the axle ratings for truck and trailer, and the brakes work, you are safe. Beyond that it's personal preference regarding performance.

RE: refrigerator doesn't work need help

Put something in the fridge, like a 12-pack of sodas.
I've noticed that I can't tell if my fridge is cooling, but if I put something in there for it to cool, it gets nice and cold.

RE: Battery for TC

IMHO, going to an RV store or NAPA only means you're going to pay more.
All lead-acid batteries are made by only about 2 or 3 manufacturers, no matter who puts their brand name on them.

RE: pop up crank. Can it be removed cuz its in the way.

Odds are that you'd strip something right at the beginning with a power lift. I know my roof needs a little boost to get it the first inch or so. Once the mechanism has leverage it cranks up effortlessly.

RE: How can this be?

Physics is physics. No matter how stiff or soft the springs are. No matter the design of the suspension or the wheelbase of the truck. The weight is still supported by the four (or six) contact patches formed by the tires on the ground.
A truck's cab is roughly halfway between the front and rear axles, actually biased towards the front axle some. Anything you put in the cab should pretty much end up spread 50/50 between the axles.

RE: truck tag

In NY, truck and trailer are licensed separately, by the GVW number of your choice.
My 11,500lb GVWR truck is licensed for 10,000lbs.
My 14,000lb GVWR deckover trailer is licensed for 10,000lbs.
Truck weighs 6320, trailer weighs 3250. That gives me a legally licensed payload of over 10,000lbs

RE: AAA vs. Good Sam roadside assistance

I'm not a member of any "Club".... I buy "plus RV" roadside assistance coverage from AAA, and it's nationwide coverage.
Yes, you are. AAA calls itself a "club."
The coverage you get by belonging to the "club" is "nationwide" with fine print. Read the fine print.

RE: Opinions on UnderWeight Hitch Setup from dealer

Nothing against the Hensley or Propride. They will do a PHENOMENAL job of stabilizing the trailer. Almost too good of a job.
They're the "belt and suspenders and string and duct tape and super glue and staples" solution in many cases. Now my waist hurts for some reason...
IMHO they're best used in "borderline" situations where the trailer is a little bit long, or right on the edge of being too heavy for the tow vehicle.

RE: Has anyone mounted a truck camper on a flatbed trailer ?

This question comes up frequently on this forum, so you might want to hit the search for past discussions.
In a nutshell, yes. It's somewhat common to mount a TC on a trailer.
Really, it's no different from mounting it in a truck. You set it on a trailer and secure it with the tiedowns. What's nice about the trailer is that it typically has tiedowns at convenient locations all along the length of the trailer already.
You MAY need to build a platform to support the first 8' of the camper, and hold it a few inches off the deck of the trailer, but that will depend on your camper.
Many campers that are longer than 8' hang down below the truck bed's level in back, and are not meant to be supported. They're designed to hang off the rear of the truck bed.
Setting them straight on the trailer may cause structural problems, or may block access to your dump valves or storage. You will need to make that determination yourself, though.

RE: Soliciting actual experiences w/ flatbeds & weigh stations

Even if you're technically supposed to, the camper will generally give you a free pass. You're an RV not a commercial truck.
