RE: New class c Unity 24 MB

The LTV units are of a quality and a limited number that the dealers don't feel the need to discount significantly. They end up being similar to B's, not C's. (Same as the situation with Born Free and a few other high quality vehicles) One is lucky to get 15%.
I'm surprised that the 2013s are in production already. Perhaps it is just the prototypes for the shows. Last year they started the 2012s just after my Libero was completed in July.
Dean's videos are always entertaining... such enthusiasm. :B The higher BTU AC unit is a great idea. Those who spend their time where the summer is over 100 degrees have needed it.

RE: 30 amp and 50 amp electric question

I was surprised at how many of the larger campgrounds have only 50 amp. But they usually also have adapters that they will lend you for a deposit. I finally bought one because I was always running into the problem.

RE: Triple E GT - Radio question!

I wouldn't wait for an email. They have an 800 number. Just press zero and tell them you need to speak to Brad or Darrell. Since they are on the phone so much, if you dial their extension you always end up in voicemail. :B

RE: Triple E GT - Radio question!

This is a known issue at EEE/LTV with these radios/back-up camera/GPS/DVD player/etc. I had the same problem with my Libero. It was like it was haunted!! I passed by the factory for another little tweak and they put in a separate switch on the dash.
Call the factory (talk to Brad or Darrell) and if your dealer can't fix it, I assume that they can send you the switch and they would cover installation costs.

RE: Class C vs Class B+

I'd love to learn who was the idiot who can up with this B+ silliness to describe a C without a cabover. Some try to say it is length, but I've seen 30+ foot RVs called a "B+" here on RV Net merely because of its lack of cabover. :R
Besides, I first owned a B and it HAD a cabover bed.
All it has done is caused unnecessary confusion... not to mention dozens of threads trying to explain it to newbies.
Posters here shouldn't be trying to figure out what the difference is between a C and a "B+." All they need to ask themselves is whether they want or need a cabover bed or not.

RE: Ford vs Chevy

I have observed on this forum, posted mpg between Ford and Chevy is more like 1 mpg, not 2 to 3 mpg.
Really? From my reading, it seems the 2-3 is accurate. But perhaps your reading covers more boards than mine. I rarely see a Ford driver claim more than 9 and don't recall ever seeing a Chev driver claim less than 10. And we Chevy owners are a minority group.
That said, there are so many variables... driver habits, size of rig, how much "stuff" one wants to carry, terrain, speed... not to mention "honesty." :B
So, I'll just say that with my 25 ft, rather lightly loaded, over all terrains - mountains to prairie 2 lanes - driving 55-65 mph - I've averaged 12.5 mpg for my first 7000 miles. With a good tailwind in the flat prairies, I can almost hit 14!!
I love my Chevy... decent mileage, comfortable cab, and handles like a dream.

RE: Heat Pump/AC electrical question

I'm sure that my uncle knew what he was doing... long time RVer, farmer, and home builder. He knows his stuff. He always had hook-ups on his farm for family get togethers.
I really enjoyed my week or so of mooching. (and it was 5 different houses in 7 days, not just three. :B) Visited those friends (2) and relatives (3) in Minnesota and Wisconsin - mostly less than 2 hours apart... spent a couple days if they weren't busy... just a day if they were. It was a great use for an RV with no moving stuff in and out of the car repeatedly and the dog was even dealing with it very well. (she's new to the whole RV thing since my mother can no longer care for her)
Doug... this circuit was at the newest house that I visited, and it popped first after they had already gone to bed and second after they had left for work in the morning. So, I'm thinking your first post hit it... the HP, fridge, and lights were enough to put me over... and maybe the computer too.
If I do this again, I will test my theory. :C

RE: Heat Pump/AC electrical question

OK... Thanks Doug... that makes sense. What didn't make sense is that there was no problem at the other three houses in the same week with the same usage of heat pump and fridge - same basic temperatures outside. The only oddity was that this was the only time I used the AC (with zero problems) because my cousin has a very aggressive dog so I had to leave mine in the RV most of the day. So it appears that the HP does draw a couple more amps than the AC and was the issue.
Of course, the variable could be that the circuits at the houses with no problems with the HP could have been 20 amp... perhaps higher for use of power tools or something in their garage workshops.
Now I might even sort of know what I'm talking about or need next time I mooch off friends and relatives. :B It might make sense to switch the fridge off while I run the HP for that quickie cycle when I know that I am on a 15 amp plug. At one stop, my uncle has a 30 amp plug in his yard for visitors. Now if I could only get the rest of them trained to do the same.
Thanks everyone!!

RE: Heat Pump/AC electrical question

Yup I'm sure... it's a heat pump. Makes the full rig toasty very quickly - much faster than the propane furnace. Heat strips are basically useless IMHO, but that may be because I am from North Dakota. :B
This is a rig manufactured in the cold prairies of Canada.

RE: Heat Pump/AC electrical question

This is at someone else's house so, I can't make them re-wire for my visit. :B
The A/C had been off for a few hours before I turned it on for heat.
And, as I said, I did this (ran the heat pump about the same amount of time - once before going to bed and once after getting up) at 4 homes this past week. At 3, there were no issues, but two power outs at the last one - same usage style.
Perhaps the other 3 had 20 amp circuits in the garage and the last had a 15. I'll have to ask them, but as I said... what struck me was that the AC was no problem, but the heat was. It wasn't really cold... mid 40s to mid 50's.
But, I guess I will never know...

duplicate...
but I could add that I don't think that there were any other draws. At night, they were in bed... and in the morning they had both left for work.

RE: Heat Pump/AC electrical question

Yea... the "ect" always gets you. :B
It wasn't cold enough to cause the system to switch to the propane furnace... that is the back-up. It was neither a horribly hot day or a freezing night. Typical Minnesota spring temps.
So... thus far no one thinks it is because of the difference in draw between the "Heat" and "Cool" of the unit.

Heat Pump/AC electrical question

I have a small C with an AC/Heat Pump combo described on the LTV website as a "Recessed Low Profile 13,500 BTU Ducted c/w Heat Pump." The rig is in storage and I can't recall the brand. (dometic?) I was parked in front of a relative's house plugged into their outside receptacle, so likely on a 15 amp. I had run the AC all day to keep the dog cool (it was only about 75 outside and partially shaded) with no problems.
But that evening, it was chilly and I thought I would run the heat for a cycle while I got ready for bed. The power went off, but I wasn't sure if it was from me... or something else. When they got up and went to work, they reset the power. It was cold, so I thought I'd try it again. Again it popped the circuit.
I had, BTW, used similar plugs at three other friends/relatives over the week, and it didn't happen at their houses. The fridge was on 110, but nothing else while the HP was running.
Perhaps they had a bad fuse or circuit or something, but what surprised me that I would have thought that AC pulls more power than heat. Was that an incorrect assumption on my part? Since the AC didn't pop the circuit, but the heat did... does the heat pump pull more power?
Just curious...

RE: New class c Unity 24 MB

The engine from 2007 Sprinter that got the high mileage is no longer available and the current engine will get closer to 15-17. And this matches what I found on the LTV forums/facebook.
Still better than the average RV. My Chevy based LTV Libero gets 12.5-13.5.
LTV builds a beautiful, high quality unit.

RE: "New" B Owners - heading out on the road

I just got them interested in stopping here in Minot to help out with the flood recovery. There are still lots of people looking for volunteers to help them re-build.
They've got a new post up about having the van checked out by a mechanic.
Ahhh... to be 25 again. :B

Since the Trail lite is a Class C, not a Class B, you might have more luck finding someone who owns one in the Class C section of the board.

This is just a test to see if my new signature works.

Well, I can see my new signature displayed on some of my older posts . . . but I am not seeing it on this one.
?????
The sig only shows on your first post on each page. Saves them a bit of server storage, I suspect. It will pop up again on your first post on the next page. :B

On one of the Yahoo boards, people mentioned finding Travasacks at some stores called "Tuesday Morning." This is a discount store which apparently bought out all the last of the inventory of Travasack.
