RE: First Post, First Trailer Help!

I prefer alum. framed units with fiberglass exteriors, I personally believe they are easier to maintain and clean. I also like the clean look, but these are personal opinion. My favorites are the Crossroads Cruiser, Rockwood Superlite, and Northwood. These units have a good reputation, 2 year warranty, mand are well equipped and insulated.

RE: Forest River Lexington vs. Jayco Melbourne

Glad to see they upgrade it over the Greyhawk which has a Alpha rubber roof.

RE: Forest River Lexington vs. Jayco Melbourne

I've seen both made - both are very nice units. To be honest, Ford is right - the base Jayco is loaded but you'll notice that it has a higher starting price. Forest River does this across all it's RV's - they offer the consumer to option out units as budget allows. When equipped similarly, they are dead even. Jayco doesn't give anything away for free. As far as the units, keep in mind last year when I was shopping Forest River had a few construction edges on Jayco for the body. First was the use of a lightweight wood-free complosite panel in place of wood for the roof, walls, and floors. FR uses Azdel Superlite, it's also has no VOC's to off-gas. Second, FR uses a fiberglass roof, Jayco uses a rubber membrane. The roof is preference, but I have always dislike rubber roof membranes becuase they tend to need more attention as a whole. The panel is rot and mold proof as it has no cellulose. On the Sunseeker/Forester, FR doesn't use Hellwig springs but rather Firesstone Ride-Rite airbags. I believe the Lexington (built on the same line as the Forester/Sunseeker) uses the same system. Again, preference as to whether you want an adjustable airbag or a fixed set of springs.

RE: Sunseeker 3100 Negatives?

Who told you that? I visited the factory and was told it was safe even for an adult, they mentioned the weight limit of 250lbs as a rule of thumb. The sofa size may vary by floorplan, not sure how big your couch is.

RE: High rear air bag pressure and cracked frames

Bunch of patooie. The Firestone Ride Rite's minimum airpressure requirement is around what the service guy states cracks frames. These Ride Rite's are installed in all kinds of OEM and aftermarket applications with no issue. Think of all the 250/2500 owners with Ride Rites on the rear axles towing 5th wheels with huge pin weights....

RE: Sunseeker 3100 Negatives?

The upper bunk of the 3170/3171 is rated for 250lbs. The lower bunk is a jack-knife sofa and has no weight limit (within reason) that I know of. The couch in the main living is a jack-knife and ok for anyone who is under 5'10". The dinette converts over to a nearly double sized bed good for someone up to 6'. The over-cab bunk area is a double and good for 6'3" (I know, I've slept up there). The u-shape dinette would make the 3170/3171 perfect (IMHO).

RE: JAYCO TOTAL DISMANTLE

I think you have a right to be angry - who buys a RV to have it totaled and rebuilt within the first two years becuase of a serious quality defect? Now that I have recognized your anger take a deep breathe and relax. You have Jayco and your dealer stepping to the plate to correct a issue. Jayco will rebuild the box and you'll never know it was even damaged! If this is your reason to upgrade feel free to do so guilt free - the next owner will get basically a new camper with no damage. Thankfully you are benefiting from a good warranty (albiet the best warranty is the one you never use).

RE: Sunseeker 3100 Negatives?

I wouldn't buy a "couples" floorplan if you plan on traveling with kids and doing family camping. The 3170 has a lot of storage, the entire bedroom slide for the master bedroom is cabinets and drawers. JMHO.

RE: Voltage haulers

Cedar Creek makes a top end unit and the construction is some of the best in the industry. Cedar Creek also has excellent factory support. IMHO, the Voltage will not be on par quality wise to the Cedar Creek. The Voltage seems to have many owners who have experienced the growing pains Dutchmen has been going through with the Voltage.

RE: Fun and Games at Flying J

I tend to avoid them now (where as on my last cross country trip I used them all the time). In general, I would echo your complaints. A ridiculous pricing structure and sub-tier pricing for different methods of payment and rewards cards, long lines, less-than-helpful staff, and yahoo's who camp out at the gas pumps rather then filling up and pulling into one of the 100 RV friendly parking spaces.

RE: 2013 Jayco Info

They stand behind their product, twice as long campared to most Mfg'ers. 2 Year Warranty........Worth something. Markiemark Not really that unique - Jayco, Crossroads, KZ, Forest River (buyer can opt. it out within first month of ownership), Open Range, etc.

RE: Grinding sound

Brakes, debris, beginning of a bearing failure, or other assorted issues. The only way to be sure is to pull it apart and inspect.

RE: TT stolen

SO sorry to hear about this, I'm very pleased that your insurance will take care of most the loss. Congrats (in the wrong circumstances) on the new Jayco.

RE: Forest River Wildcat 323QB

The Wildcat's are typically packed with more standards and features then other similar 5th wheels. The FR brand also allows you to add a 2nd year warranty for a few hundred bucks within the first month of ownership.

RE: Snow load damaged roof?

In our area we tend to have high water concentrated snow over the winter. I have always removed snow when it gets over a foot deep on the roof. In the winter of 2008 we had several feet of snow, a friend owned a dealership that had owner storage. I cleaned mine off regularly, others didn't. Come spring there were two units with superslides that you could clearly see the beam above the slide was bent from the snow load. Others reported axle issues from the snow exceeding the axle capcity and flattening the tube. I figure it's good excercise in the Winter and cheap insurance to clean it.

RE: Bed issue new Roo

I had a Jayco hybrid (2007 I bought in 2006) that had a similar issue when I looked at it. Jayco had just switched the mattress to heated units and they didn't really think through the shelf to bed transition. However, I have not seen this on the ROO's I've looked at. I saw a 2012 not that long ago at a show and the beds were actually quite comfy and level. Perhaps there was a specific issue with the 19' model you were shopping. As for the ROO, you can't go wrong with a new unit from RVW as you get a factory fresh 2013 with a warranty. The ROO models have always stayed a step ahead (IMHO) of the competition by offering a laminated crowned roof with ducted AC, higher clearance and termination valves then others, alum. framed dinette and beds, and a build-as-you-like option list. I hate that many brands now "force" you into a over-priced and cheap LCD TV and other junk you may not want. Also, remember if you buy new that FR offers a factory warranty extension for 1 year that is very affordable and well worth the price.

RE: Which is better, Keystone Laredo or Jayco Super Light HT?

Crossroads Cruiser loads up even the smallest model with high content level and a 2+5 year warranty. Crossroads has a paint package, one piece rear cap, upgraded solid surface counters, leather coverings, and more!

RE: Comments On Jayco Brand

Jayco builds a nice unit but I have found their list prices push them above the range they intend to serve. For example, compare the features of the Eagle SL to a Crossroads Cruiser or Forest River Sabre and the Jayco seems like its missing some content. The FR and Crossroads both have two year warranties like Jayco. Recently, a poster bought a new Jayco and the roof was questionable with junk under the membrane, staple raised under roof, and the wall flashing raised on the edges... Jayco responded that it was normal.... I would look at other brands and compare accordingly.

RE: Apparently 3/4 ton pickups CAN tow anything

I have to agree with a previous poster - I've seen a lot of snowbirds flocking back to New England lately. I haven't seen one who appeared to be in any hurry (or approaching the speed limit). Who can blame them? It's Easter, 38 degree's, and spitting snow over here.
