RE: Little tv help

George,
I have been told that liquid crystals can freeze and break, under extreme cold conditions. I have also been told thast there are some models that are considered "all weather" which don't have these issues.
As far as LED or plasmas, I don't think they have issues with cold, however, if condensation is a possibility, then they should be allowed to assume room temperature.

RE: You ever stay in a Walmart parking lot?

I've spent a few nights in WalMart parking lots.....I've also spent a few nights in Camping World Parking lots....and Outdoor World/Bass Pro Shops. Also a couple of Flying J's, Pilot, and T/A Travel Centers. WAS I CAMPING?....NO!!....I was traveling!....These places make these areas available to us, in hopes of attracting my business and you know what?.......THEY DO!!!!.... When I travel, I spend the majority of my time on the Interstate....Most campgrounds are not in close proximity...which would require me to burn excess fuel and time to get to them. Plus, most turn out their lights at 9:00 PM....Since I usually don't stop til after midnight, it would require me to wake someone up, plus irritate folks that have already turned in for the night.
Since I don't get in your face and tell you how to travel, where to go, and what hours to be doing it, I find it annoying that you should try to dictate, to me, how I should do mine......

RE: Removing Graphics-Any Experences?

You need to GENTLY heat the old graphics and peel them. Then remove any remaining glue. Some of the Orange cleaners are good for this. Keep in mind that the finish under the graphics has not been exposed to the sun and weather. There will be a definate difference where the graphic has been removed. It doesn't matter whether it is gelcoated fiberglass or filon, the difference will be there. There is no amount of waxing or polishing that can make it invisible. The good thing is that after a summer of exposer to the sun and weather, the difference will disappear on it's own.

RE: Dead battery

You can also check for draws on the chassis system. I found, on mine, that the lights in the storage bays and the courtesy lights run off the chassis battery. For this reason I have two battery disconnects. One disconnects the house batteries and the other disconnects the chassis battery.
Also, I think that you may have tried to start your engine off the house batteries with the switch on the dash. I found that this switch is powered by the chassis battery. It is there in case you should run the house batteries down to the point where you can not start the genset to charge then. It works off a solenoid that is powered by the chassis (starting) battery. If the chassis battery is dead, the solenoid will not activate. So, you can jump start the generator from the chassis battery, but you can not jump start the chassis battery from the house battery.....I hope this makes some kind of sense.....Pat

RE: Inverter use.

And it will not save you any money on gas. The average alternator can suck up 5-7 horsepower when running at full output. That horsepower will drag on your fuel ecomony, so you might as well burn a little propane. Your furnace is much more efficient at creating heat, than your main engine turning an alternator, to charge batteries at 12V and then converting it to 120V AC to run an electric heater.

RE: Replacement Engine 454

Another vote for Jasper. I got my engine from them in 2004. Make sure you specify that you want a medium duty truck engine. The car/light truck engine makes more horsepower, but the medium duty truck engine makes gobs of low end torque. Motorhomes were actually built with both, which may explain the different performance claims for the "same" engine......

RE: Trojan T-105, Wow, what a cost!

I bought 4 Excide 6 volt deep cycle batteries at a local auto parts store in 2004. Just got back from a NASCAR 4 day weekend where I ran off batteries from 4:00 pm to 9:00 am every morning. This included runing the fridge, furnace (it was 35 degrees in the evenings), lights, water pump, water heater, and inverter for Sat Reciever and television. We didn't even try to conserve power. Many times hade 7-8 lights on at a time and had the TV on for hours ..Had no issues with the 5 year old batteries, keeping up as long as I ran the genset 3-4 hrs a day. I charge with a Progressive Dynamics 80 amp converter/charger.

RE: Do/Can U use your propane furnace while driving?

One good reason to use it in sub freezing temps is that it will, normally, keep your plumbing from freezing. I was surprised how warm it was in my utility bay, one year, when I was camping in November.

RE: IL. Fall Rally Sept.25-27th 2009

I decided I need to service my house batteries, the other day. We will be going to a stock car race in a couple weeks and will be dry camping in the parking lot for a couple days.
Servicing these batteries is a real pita as the coach was only designed for two 12V batteries. I wanted four 6 volt golf cart batteries for the added capacity. The generator is ok but I really don't want to run it all day and half the night. I had to remake the battery tray and in doing this, the back two batteries were hidden under the floor. The only way to access them is to remove the front two and slide them forward. I knew if I got a socket in there and forced the issue, it would break the terminal off, making the batteries useless, so I wound up grabbing a hack saw blade and cutting the cable. Working in an area with only two inches of clearance and charged batteries was fatiguing, but I finally got them out. The four batteries took a total on 1 gallon of water. I got two new cables and put then back in.
Before I removed them I had checked the battery bank voltage and it was only reading 11.9 volts and the break out. Without charging the bank, I checked it again, after cleaning and servicing the batteries and cables, and the voltage was 12.6 volts.....H..MM...MMMMMM. IT seems that I must have had a really bad connection.
I plugged in the coach and let the bank charge, overnight. The biggest, noticeable difference is that the lights are now just as bright when on the batteries as they are when the coach is plugged in, and the fans don't slow down when you switch off the convertor.....Good Deal!!!.....I'm ready for dry camping. I may even test everything out at the rally by shutting off the power and just running off the batteries.....AND MAYBE NOT....LOL

RE: Where do old Bank Systems go?

I saw a few Banks Exhaust systems at a few of the RV graveyards...However, they wanted 75% of the cost of new, and then you get no warrenty....Along with this, there's no recourse if they don't fit. Most RV graveyards do not allow returns.

RE: Can LP Fridge run down battery

I question the charging of the battery. On my original Magnetec Converter/Charger, the charging circuit for the battery was only 6 amps, but the converter was a 45 amp converter. I switched to a PD9160 and all my dead battery issues went away. At the time I had three 12 volt batteries and they wouldn't last over night with moderate useage. When I replaced the converter I also upgraded to 4 6V golf cart batteries. The old charger/converter would take three days of being plugged in to properly charge the bank....The new setup will properly recharge the bank in 6-7 hours....For your info.....I ran my fridge on LP for 3 weeks, on the battery bank, while in storage. At the end of that time period, my bank still showed 12.1 volts.....Pat
