RE: Get a propane tank gauge or not?

I asked myself the same question - finally decided to run one tank empty, then switch to the other and immediately (like next day) fill the empty tank. Have run out at night, but no big deal - throw on another blankie until morning. Have used the hot water test a few times, but now just switch when empty. penokee:)

RE: U S Forest Service cancelling Golden Age discounts

No "Quick Fix" for the problems we face as a Nation. The only thing we can do is STOP/LIMIT the madness that continues in Washington. As I've heard many times: Hunker Down, Suck it Up; do as Americans have done for generations - face the problems, solve them and go on from there. I believe we will live in a High Unemployment Society for many years. I'm 74, retired from the USFS, Korean Veteran, remember WWII and believe that I lived through the Best Years our country will ever see. Sad for our Children and Grandchildren. No advice here, just my opinion. penokee

RE: advice on live in trailer

Would just like to add that sway Control is very important with a Bumper Pull. I have towed two RV's with a Hensley Sway Control and am extremely happy with the results. They are a little pricey, but cheaper then an accident. No white knuckle trips. If you can somehow afford it, a larger Tow Vehicle would be the the safest thing you could do ,in my opinion. Currently tow a Thor 28' Vortex Toy Hauler. The inside dimensions are great, high ceiling, etc. Has 2 - 6,000# axles, can haul 5,000# of product/load. Don't know if I'd want to Full-time in it, but it meets our needs for extended periods. Have fun and stay safe. penokee:)

RE: Reducing tongue weight - move batteries to back bumper?

I feel that actual scale weights are important. When loaded, I go to the nearest CAT scale (Where the Big Boys weigh :), at many Truck Stops. I don't get the tongue weight, but the way the scales are constructed, get the front and rear axles of the TV and tandem axles of the TH all weighed seperately at the same time. As mentioned by someone earlier, loading is critical - if too heavy on rear axle of TV, I'll move heavy itmes to the rear of the TH. I'm also concerned about exceeding the MFG,s recommended max, axle loadings for the TV (which I've done on occasion). Main thing is too be safe, don't take chances - nothing to gain. penokee:)

Generator problem

Have a 4,000 W Onan generator built into my TH. The gas tank is located approx. 24 feet from the genset. Can't get the motor to fire, new plug and has spark. Two questions: 1. How long do you prime your Onan engine before starting? 2. Where's the location of the fuel pump? I hear something running when I prime it, but can't tell if the pump is back near the tank, or on the genset. Gas Station is for the ATV,s and is 1/2 full. Any/all comments appreciated. Haven't been able to get to a Dealer. penokee and pluto:@

RE: Snakes

I use #9 birdshot in my revolver. Yes I accidently blew a hole in the side of my camper, but then it's an old camper and the 2nd shot got the rattler. Yes, I'm also deadly afraid of snakes. penokee:B

Onan 4000W Generator question

Can't get Onan 4000 started in my Vortex TH. Is there a manual choke? Tried starting with remote controls in TH and also controls on generator. Has only been run once, 6 months ago. Plan to operate it under load once a month from now on. Thanks for comments. penokee and pluto:@

RE: Sway Control for 16' Enclosed Cargo Trailer

Thanks for the comments. I'm going to try it without sway control, and add it if I have problems. Had a sway problem several years ago, and The fact that I was towing with a Dodge 3/4 T pickup didn't matter, the trailer was the BOSS - Not a good situation. Guess sway control is actually cheap insurance. penokee:)

Sway Control for 16' Enclosed Cargo Trailer

Does anyone use a Sway Control device when towing a 16' Tandem Axle Enclosed Cargo Trailer such as Wells Cargo or Haulmark? I use a Hensley on my 24' Toy Hauler. Thanks for any/all comments. Tow with a 2500HD Duramax. penokee and pluto:@

RE: Onan 4000 genset

I go along with jcag, use the same method on my Briggs and Straton Generator, Wood Splitter and Mowers - works every time for me. Going to install a shutoff on my Onan in the TH, Good idea. penokee:)

Thought I'd follow-up since I started this thread. Tears in my eyes from laughing. Good thing in all the stories, is that no one was seriously injured or killed. Also much good advice. Drive safely. penokee:)

Dead Animals on the Road

Recently traveling on a 4 lane highway in western TX and ran over a dead deer in my lane - bad idea. I was traveling 60 mph with most vehicles moveing at +70 mph. I figured my Tow Vehicle and Toy Hauler axles would clear the animal - they did, but forgot about the safety chains. The rather large buck was banged around under the trailer and after I pulled off about 2 miles down the road, found the mess I had - Chains, hitch, trailer frame, stairs, etc were covered with blood and animal meat - enough to make you gag. Thankfull that nothing was ripped off the bottom far as I know - will have to make a complete inspection when I get to my destination. Darn dog likes it, wants to lick the junk off every chance she gets. Anyone else have a similar experience? penokee and Pluto:)

RE: Determine Propane Tank Volumn.

Thanks all - will use the hot water method as soon as our rain stops. We set a record for Sept. here in UP of MI, with over 23 consecutive days with no rain. Good thing about this cold rain is that it reminds me to head south again to TX and AZ - aw this RV life is Great aint it? Just take your cue from the Geese and you can't go wrong. penokee and pluto:B

Towing/Braking with a Hensley hitch.

Question. When braking, my 2500 HD Duramax wants to pull to the right as I get close to a full stop (towing 9,000 lbs of TH), but doesn't do this when pickup not towing. Could adjustment in my Hensley Strut Bars eliminate this? Anyone have similar problems or other ideas? Thanks in advance. - otto:@
