RE: Pros/cons between these two TCs please

I actually went thru the same decision process, same 2 campers, and I have a 2500. I went with the Northstar. The deciding factors for me were the extended cab bed, storage, and cassette toilet. Are there some things I wish were different? Yep, but it was the best for what I wanted. You'll have to do the same evaluation of your needs and make your decision from there. Good luck.

RE: An East/West comparison for RVers...

Vermont state parks do not have hookups of any kind. Most but not all have a dump station. Usually there are water spigots scattered thru-out the campground. Most have a bath house including showers. A few do not, but have at least pit-toilets. National Forest campgrounds are wilderness without any amenities or disbursed camping. COE has a range of hookups from full to none at all.

I have a rooftop A/C on my SunLite Eagle. Roof raises easily with no problems.

RE: 2006 Northstar laredo

I don't have the Laredo, but I do have the 850 which is the same basic floorplan. There is no lean when loaded on my 2500hd. I also don't understand how everything heavy is on the left side. The freshwater tank is from the center line to the right and the gray water tank is on the right.

RE: Two Toads?

I knew a couple that were in the same situation. Over the course of a few years they evolved into a class A with toad for him and a small C with toad for her. When they were in the same area, the C was the office. They also had the flexibility to go to separate work sites and have full living facilities.

RE: Pop Up TC's in the Rain

Having had 2 pop-up tc's, I've never had any issues with rain. My only suggestion is to make sure that when you 'level' that the front or side is lower than the back by just a touch. This will prevent water running off the roof right over the door. If you do it right you won't notice the angle at all but it will keep your neck dry when exiting.

RE: Buffalo, NY to Randolph Center, VT

Just a little side note. Stretches of Rt 4, 100, and 107 were hit hard by Irene. They are open, but are still considered active construction zones. Some places are pretty rough, others are restricted speed limits, and a few are bridge replacements with very slow going. You might want to check out http://www.511vt.com/index.asp for road conditions.

RE: Buffalo, NY to Randolph Center, VT

If you weren't towing and the roads were in better shape than how Irene left them, that wouldn't be a bad route. I could think of a couple of other ways that might be just as good. However, all things considered the 91 to 89 route sounds like the easiest. Another possibility might be to cross Lake Champlain up towards the northern end and head down 89.

RE: Microwave Pressure Cooker

Hi s1214,
That looks more like "the real thing". Does using it in a microwave "hurry" the cooking times along?
I cook ribs 2 different ways. Low and slow in the oven which takes hours. Or in the pressure cooker for about 15 - 20 minutes and then on the grill for the crust.

I've had the Nordic for about 10 years now. It really does hold the pressure and cooks meets to a fall off the bone tenderness.

VT State Parks

I was talking to a VT State Park Ranger and she said that VT is toying with the idea of putting full hookups in one of the smaller parks to encourage usage. She wouldn't say which one, only that there was a private campground nearby that they were concerned about competing with.

RE: Thinking about Vermont...

Another suggestion in northern Vermont is Lake Carmi State Park. We've camped there several times and always enjoyed it.
Call ahead for reservations, it fills up quickly.

At this time there are NO VT state parks with hookups.

RE: Northstar 850SC with XB- do you have one?

Just got back from the show. They had an 850, no XB, however, they had a 650 XB.
**Wondering how it is to sit at dinette with the xb. Does the support bar get in the way? It looks like you might bump your head when at the dinette.
When sitting at the dinette, there is no back support at all. I'm a little over 6 foot and the top of the opening is right at the back of my head. This made it a little uncomfortable if you leaned nack because the only thing I hit was my head. If you sat up away from the 'wall' no problems. The support protrudes into the sitting area in the middle of the opening. If you were sitting there yep, you would hit your head. Or even if you were trying to slide from one side to the other, bonk.
**Is the canvas protruding into the camper when not set up?
While this camper was all set up, I could not see how it would not.

RE: Making my own rear tie downs idea

While I'm running a GMC, what you describe is pretty much the way my rear tl's are. They are both bent rather than welded but that should work.
TL's wouldn't fit my GMC. Dealer made me a set of tiedowns that are pretty much as you describe. So I have stock TL's in the front and a custom set in the back.
