RE: Hell Canyon

And it's well worth the trip! And don't miss the visitor center at the dam. Or the Oregon Trail Visitor Center in near by Baker OR.

RE: Bench Seats

The trick is to put the foam in a plastic bag.
Going to your dry cleaners and asking for a couple of garment bags popped into my mind as a source for a large plastic bag. I guess maybe large garbage bag also?
Garment bags work very well, as they're light and rip easily, but I've used contractor-size trash bags as well.

RE: Bench Seats

Different times in different TCs, I've replaced the foam in our dinette cushions. The covers have a zipper, so just take the cover off and measure the existing foam. Got to a fabric store that carries upholstery and drapery fabric--they'll probably also carry foam. I usually get dense foam; it lasts longer. Costs a big more, but it's a lot more comfortable and doesn't "bottom out" so fast. The store will cut your foam pieces to the sizes you need. The hard part is getting the foam back into the covers. The trick is to put the foam in a plastic bag, put that into the cover and get it adjusted and then tear the plastic off and make final adjustments. Last time I did this, it cost me over $100 for the foam, but that foam will last years.

RE: Wolverine Truck Camper

We bought a 1971 Wolverine in 1976. In 1976, the original owner had used it 5 times. The plastic was still on the mattress! We had it 11 years and used it a lot, up and down the East Coast from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to Florida, and out west to Oregon. And we used it in all seasons, and all weather. I've searched all our old albums, and can only find 2 pictures with bits of the old girl, not even a whole picture, but I'll post them. It was the 11 ft model, and had lots of room. I remember from the label by the door that it was made in North Carolina, and the dealer was on Cape Cod (long gone). That camper set the standard for every camper we've had since--none of the ones since had closets that big, or drawers under the fridge. But we also no longer light the fridge with a match in the end of a piece of dowel. Still miss the gravity fed furnace though.

RE: I know this might be a stupid question but....

We always called that the "root cellar" in the camper. Some models had 2, some 3 and some had 4 doors for access to the wheel well areas. Don't have those on newer models.

RE: Place to overnight on I-81 Central to NE Pennylvania

Well, if you're heading to I84 to NY and New England, the last exit in PA has a welcome center where you can stop. Then exit 1 in New York, if you come off the ramp and take 2 lefts, you're actually in New Jersey, and the fuel is much cheaper. It's the Port Jervis exit.

RE: Lance 1191

We have a 2012 1191, with the super slide. With the slide in, you can still get to the bath, and open the fridge a little, so you can get to snacks or make lunch. It's tight getting to a seat on the dinette, and you can't really open the pantry cabinet and it's almost impossible to get to the cab-over bed. But the way the storage has been re-arranged, compared to our 2007 model, is awesome!

RE: Oven in a TC--do you use it?

We've had an oven in every camper, since 1976! And used all of them. A stone works well too, as mentioned. Or just a 12x12 unglazed tile from one of the big box stores, instead of an expensive pizza stone.

RE: Lance Camper rear door shade replacement?

The fabric with magnets or velcro works well to cover windows. If you use a drapery lining called Roc-lon, you can have light-blocking window coverings. And I believe the Roc-lon also has an R-value.

RE: For those with kids??

When we took our (then) 5 year old grandson to Winhall Brook COE in VT, his favorite activities were throwing rocks in the river from the bridge and roasting marshmallows over the campfire.
Mostly it depends on the ages...

RE: China or Plastic Plates / And Storage Tips for China

We use Corelle. Been truck camping since 1976, and only once have we lost any. Last January, hit a bump, and that particular cabinet opened and dishes crashed and shattered. Cabinets have come open in the past, but I think it was the extreme cold that made the difference. Corelle is pretty unbreakable. We do use paper plates for quick lunches and snacks on the road.

RE: Prolly? Really?

My grandson texts, so if I want to stay in communication, I text. Most conversations from him start with "Hey".
He uses a lot of abbreviations; I don't. On occasion, I correct his spelling.

The above truncates a ~~25 word text message ;) In less than 10 years, the entire English dictionary will be reduced to 127 pages, from a current several thousand pages. In the next generation, no one here will be able to converse by text with them. Guaranteed.

RE: Just some things....

8. Toilet was starting to get ripe in the heat - added more chemicals (anyone use Happycamperz?)
You know how the toilet at home always has water in it? Well, the reason for that is to keep smells (methane gas) out. You can do the same in hot weather in the TC--just refill the bowl of the toilet with 1/4 to 1/2 inch of water, just enough to barely cover the bottom of that flapper, and presto! No more aromas!
And if you're thinking your grey water tank is getting more full than the black--do your dishes in a really big bowl and dump the water in the toilet--balances the holding tanks. Or get a plastic dish pan for the TC. I keep a multi-purpose plastic bowl in the TC.
