THE FLOORS DONE

The new floor is in and complete in our class A and is a work of art, IMHO. We have an 11 year old Dutch Star that was looking really tired inside so we decided to do something about it.
After much thought, we decided to install a new oak manufactured wood floor in the coach. I considered doing the job myself but after reading several posts, considered my decent mechanical skills and my lack of skills in installing wood flooring, and the desire to have a great looking job when done; we decided to have it done with me helping in those areas I could. I'm 72 in fairly good health and do most of my own maintenance and repairs.
Believe me you need to be in good physical condition to crawl around on your hands and knees for several days and know what your doing before undertaking a job like this. We saw a recommendation this rv net site about Ernie Ekberg in Weatherford, Tx. We checked his site on Yahoo and the rest is history.
I'm technically challenged or I would post some pictures here. If your interested check out our floor at Ernies site on Yahoo. Do a Google search and you'll find it. Our coach is a Dutch Star and our names are Bob and Fran.

RE: Fiberglass Roof. To Paint or not to Paint...

Google the coatings company "SOMAY and look over their roof coatings. Then call them and disscuss your needs and wants. I've used some of their products on building roof and think you can find a really good coating for much less and much easier insstallation than some mentioned above. They are located in Miami, Fl.
Good luck

WHAT TO DO IN NOVA SCOTIA

We are considering going to Nova Scotia, PEI and New Brunswick, Canada this summer and are wondering what all we should see or experience.
We have been through most of western Canada but not these three providences. Can you please suggest some things to see and do?
If we are there in mid May to mid June would we need reservations in campgrounds?
Thanks for your assistance.

AUTOMATIC DATES

Can anyone tell me how to consectively update a column of dates on a spreadsheet. I want to enter the first date and then have the conputer add dates into the date column for a specified time--next 3, 4, 5 months.
We have developed a spreadsheet (open office) that we us for estimating cost and tracking actual cost for our trips. We may be gone for 3 to 6 months at a time and want to develop our cost estimate before leaving.
The spreadsheet allows us to estimate cost then track cost on a daily basis during our trip. Now we have to enter each date individually into the column-- maybe 100 + entries.
Any assistance is appreciated.

RE: REPLACING BELT AND HOSES 7.5 QUIET DIESEL GENNY

Mine is mounted on a slide and pulls out the front of the MH. It slides out about 3 feet with all but about a foot of the unit clear of the wiring. I had to unhook the electrical wiring at the rear of the unit. The diesel fuel supply and return lines were in the rear area but I did not remove them, just moved them around a little in order to remove the right panel.
Shops normally just remove the unit and work on a bench which would be much easier. I do not have the tools to remove the unit so did it in place. If you have that many hours on your unit, obviously you us it. I would replace the hoses and belt before they fail at some inopportune time--like the middle of some hot summer night and me without replacement hoses or a belt. That's what drove me to do the job.
If you do it, you will need a manual. Check for posts by "snail" and you will find a post showing a site with the pdf file for the manual. Good luck and be patient. You need enough room to remove the front, top and right side panel (back on my unit) on your gen set.

REPLACING BELT AND HOSES 7.5 QUIET DIESEL GENNY

Well, I completed the work and feel good about it. It did take a little longer than I had estimated--about 6 hours and about $200 for parts from Onan. I replaced all hoses, the radiator cap and the water pump drive belt.
I did not remove the generator from the coach but pulled out the slide and removed the top, right and front panels from the 7.5 kw Quiet Diesel. This opened up the unit so I could access the hoses and belt. I did have to remove the mufflers so that I could gain access to the lower engine hose. The mufflers were relatively easy to remove as all nuts came loose easily.
Biggest problem was getting the panels off and then back on with all the wiring in the way and very cramped working spaces.
Thanks for the information; especially, the link to the service manual. It was very helpful.

RE: Banks PowerPack Worth the money ?

I installed a Banks exhaust system and the transmission chip on our 1994 F 53 chassis, 460 cubic inch engine back in 1995. It was well worth it in performance, mostly increased torque to pull the hills. We say zero in fuel economy so don't expect improvement there.
The transmission chip is very important in my opinion. I would not make the conversion without the chip.

7.5 KW QUIET DIESEL BELTS AND HOSES

Has anyone opened their Quiet Diesel generator to replace the belts and coolant hoses?
Our generator, a HDKA 7.5 kw is now about 11 years old and I think in need of new coolant hoses and belts. I do not have a manual but believe in order to change them I need to remove the top and/or side of the generator sound proof enclosure for access to the belts and hoses.
Has anyone done this and can you give me some advice as to how best to approach? Our generator is located at the front of the mh and is mounted on a slide out tray.
Your advice is appreciated.

RE: Verizon "Thank you for your payment"

We have had Verizon for many years and over the years have had a few issues. Never had a problem resolving them. I just say "I respectifully request that you remove the fee in question". On an occasion or two i've had to ask to talk with a supervisor. It's clear to them that if they do not remove the fee we'll go elsewhere--which I really don't want to do but will.

RE: Blue Ox "Aladdin" tow bar, a bit difficult to disconnect

Just try turning the wheels to the stopping point in one direction, I don't recall which way, but one way or the other will free things up to release the levers. Moving the car is not necessary, believe it or not.
This is the method Blue Ox recommends. Have been doing it for about 5 years and have not had to use a hammer or pliers since i started the method.

RE: Which Satellite Dish

If u want an inexpensive dish, find an old Direct Dish from someplace and carry it with you. You can buy a tripod or make an inexpensive stand.
A friend gave me an 18 inch round dish and I made a stand from 2 inch pvc pipe which i fill with water to hold it down. Total investment is about $25. After a couple times setting it up, it now takes maybe 15 minutes from start to finish.
We've found many times that we can't use the permanently mounted dish on the rv because we're parked under a tree or some other obstruction.
The portable dish solves the problem.
Good luck,
