RE: Florida to the best of the west

We've gone out there lots of times, tried many different routes. My favorite is I-75 to I-10 to I-49 (Lafayette) to I-20 (Shreveport) to US 287 (outside Dallas-Fort Worth) to I-40 (Amarillo). If you want to go to Durango, Take I-40 to Albuquerque, I-25 to US 550, then to Durango. It's all good road. From Durango through Cortez to Monticello and on to Moab. North from Moab to I-70, over to US 89 and south to Panguitch and Bryce. North of Panguitch, Route 20 is a good way to I-15 which will take you toward Yellowstone.
If you want to go to Ouray, stay on US 287 past Amarillo to US 50, west tto Montros and south to Ridgway or Ouray. This way, US 550 to US 50 to I-70 to US 191 and south to Moab.
Either route has lots to offer.

RE: Kodachrome Basin State Park, Utah

If you need hook-ups, say for heating, the Cannonville KOA is a good park.

RE: Passport America

Have been PA for years, always get a quick pay-back on the fee. There is a range of quality, just like in all things. We usually don't need all the "amenities".

Greenbrier Road is a nice drive, though not as long as some of the others.

RE: Florida

Sunshine Key is less expensive and on the water, about MM 40 as I recall.

RE: Any recommendations to get out of cold for holidays?

I think the Tucson area is a great place to visit. Haven't tried it myself, but Gilbert Ray Campgroundis reported to be good.

RE: New Orleans West KOA

I'm PA, so would lean toward them. Most KOA's aren't worth the money to me with no need for their "amenities".

Sorry I got "off topic", Thunder Mountain. Not trying to waste your time, but possibly be helpful. I'll try not to respond to your questions in the future.

RE: Barron River RV Park - Everglades City --- comments ?

The review of Barron River seems fair, matches our experience. Have also stayed at a small park on Chokoloskee Island, but prefer Barron River. There is also an Outdoor Resorts on Chokoloskee, for $69 and up..

RE: Help with where to camp in the Grand Canyon area

Agree with Trailer Village. It is most convenient to the park.

RE: Canyons of the Ancients Nat'l Monument?

I think you'll get all the info you need at the Heritage Center. There are several decent campgrounds in Cortez, try rvparkreviews.com. We stayed closer to Mesa Verde, which is highly recommended. We also visited Hovenweep (nice trails), Aztec NM (good ruins, but no hiking) and Chaco Canyon (great ruins and plenty of hiking available). We did not stop at Canyon of the Ancients, as we heard it wasn't fully developed when we were there. Best canyon hiking I've found is around Moab, Cedar Mesa and Kanab.

RE: Need Ideas

We enjoy Cajun country around Lafayette, LA. Also, Charleston, Hilton Head, Savannah, Fernandina Beach, St Augustine are great towns for touring. Too many specifics to list.

RE: Sedona in March

Obviously, any weather is possible. However, we've been there in March and found it was excellent, even though Flagstaff was much colder and getting snow. I think you should plan on going there, but have a back-up in case the unlikely happens. Tucson is a great back-up place, IMO.

RE: Snow Canyon State Park- Utah

Have never camped there, but the campground looked nice as I drove by. Thing I wanted to say is, stay a little longer and hike the trails in Snow Canyon. Red Cliffs NRA up I-15 a little is another good place for hiking.

We liked it fine last spring, except for non-stop rain at that time. The road through the park was a little rough, but no problem.

RE: Nice campgrounds on Jekyll Island, GA

We try to keep our grand-daughters outside and busy when they travel with us. Movies and video games can be seen/played back home. As others have mentioned, lots to do within a short drive of Jekyll Island. Touring the old "cottages" of millionaires is great fun, and educational. Have fun.

RE: From Florida, Yellowstone or Yosemite?

You've gotten great advice so far. I just want to emphasize the advice to visit Glacier NP. Yellowstone and Grand Tetons can be done in as little as a week, two weeks allows more time for hiking, etc. It's only one day to reach GNP, and you will love it. Be sure to see Two Medicine, Many Glacier and Waterton Lakes (in Canada, so check entry/re-entry requirements). The best hiking is on the east side, but there are good campgrounds on both sides.
There are many things to see along the way. We usually pick a route we haven't done lately, then ID all the things we want to see along the way. Even if it takes us out of the way, we try to see things that are new to us. We try to avoid the interstates unless we are in a hurry.

RE: Zion/Bryce in December

Zion is usually accessible except for a few days when it may get a significant snow fall. Bryce is much higher in elevation and gets more snow and much colder. We have been there in winter and the road in the park is plowed only about half way, so not all overlooks are accessible. Still, to see it in winter is a special treat. Zion is also beautiful in snow. My web site (click on Utah) has photos of both parks in winter.

stayed one night at the state park some years back. It was trashy to say the least. Also, the border crossing there did not impress me, so we moved on.
