RE: Limp Mode on LMM Duramax

I see you have posted your issue over at the Diesel Place. Those boys in that forum will hopefully have a solution for you. On a side note, I always find it interesting why someone needs to chip their Duramax. :?

RE: Airbag pressures

My pin weight is about 2550#s on my 2500HD. I run 45 psi in my air bags which seems to allow the TV and 5W to run level.

RE: Outfitting the Tow Vehicle

I have a toolbox that sits just below my rails in my 6.5' short box.

RE: Going to Smokies from Western KY

We just completed a trip to the Smokies and Gulf States. My suggestion would be to avoid the hubbub of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and go to the Townsend area to camp. We stayed at the http://tremontcamp.com/Tremont campground and loved the quiet solitude after a day of exploring the Smokies. Here is the route I would suggest IMO. I'm sure others will have their reasons for making a beeline to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg to enjoy lots of tourist attractions and large crowds. It just wasn't for me. Kentucky and Tennessee are rich in history. Google and searching the locations forums of RV.net will become your best friend for finding places along your route to visit. Happy travels!

RE: RVing in the Black Hills

Rafter J Bar Ranch or Custer State Park would be my first two choices.

RE: Diesel MPG?

They tend to get about 15mpg in mixed unloaded driving, 18-20mph highway, and 12-14mpg city. Exactly my #s with an 06 Duramax totally stock. My previous 1/2 ton got 2-3 less across the board and, as mentioned, weighed 2000lbs less and couldn't pull a house as my diesel can :) I'm very close to those same numbers with my stock '06 Duramax and my former '99 1500 as your 1/2 ton. I just completed a 4000 mile towing trip to the Smoky Mts and Florida Gulf Coast. Towing my new Pinnacle 5W I got a best 11.9 MPG and a low 8.8 going into a 25 MPH head wind up and down the hills of Missouri. All this towing is at 62 MPH which keeps the diesel at its optimal torque range (1600 rpm) and locked in 6th gear. I probably averaged right at 11.3 mpg overall. My '99 half ton was lucky to get 10 mpg pulling a much lighter 5W and would run in 3rd gear at about 3500 rpm.

RE: trailer hitch on rear of trailer

I'm on my 2nd Jayco 5W that I've added a 2" receiver to for tandem-towing my boat. I have in writing from Jayco that I will have voided my frame warranty if there is proof the receiver and added hitch caused any problem. However, your 2008 is out of warranty. Not being familiar with your model of TT, you will need to base your decision on the risks you are willing to incur if a problem arises. Good luck!

RE: OK, I'm Stumped

Our 5w has the same range vent. Just pull out on the bottom other each of the two tabs. They'll eventually pop loose. The tabs will snap back into "locked" position when pushed in. Happy RVing!

RE: Cedar Creek 36RE or Pinnacle 36REQS

We have the Pinnacle in our sig and are on our first extended trip to SE states with it. Currently in the Smoky Mts before heading to the Florida panhandle. The Pinnacle so far has been flawless! It's our 3rd Jayco product and nothing beats the 2 year warranty tho' I've only had a warranty repair once on a TT. You might want to go to Jayco Owners- 5th Wheels and ask around as there are other Pinnacle owners who can respond to your inquiry. Good luck with your decision.

RE: Driving in the rain

You should have no damage to the truck. Sit at a boat ramp somewhere and watch as folks launch and retrieve boats and they're in a lot more than a foot deep in many cases. Its cool to submerge the tailpipe when launching my boat. Makes a neat gurgling sound! BTW...the rear differential also gets a bath! (Sorry about my hijack of this thread!)

RE: 2011 Chevy 3500

The Duramax has been since 2001, and is currently, only available with a 3.73 rear in a 2500HD and 3500 SRW and DRW truck. Period. X2!!

RE: Trolling motor battery box.....anybody used one on tongue?

If you go to a battery box on the tongue, I'd suggest drilling a couple of holes in the bottom of the box for drainage. I had a battery box on my former TT and drove through a horrific, long lasting down pour. When we got to our destination, I happened to take the cover off, and the box was 3/4 full of water from road spray.

RE: Modifying TV for heavier Fiver

From the info I've been able to glean from the Diesel Place forum, the Chevy 2500HD shares the same axle and frame components as does the 3500HD. The load capacity is larger on the 3500HD because it has an additional rear leaf spring. By adding air bags, you have increased the load capacity of your 2500 similarly to adding the extra leaf spring of the 3500. And with the larger 265 sized tires on the rear, you should be good to go!

RE: I-80 W or I-90 W From MI to Mt. Rushmore ??

Iowa and Nebraska can be very monotonous. What?? How can it be monotonous if you're playing chicken with all the 18 wheelers on I-80?? :E Sorry, I didn't mean to attempt a hijack, but I couldn't help myself.

RE: Double towing (other states)

My observations indicate that many tandem towers are over Nebraska's 65' max length, and I am one of them (by 2'). However, I only run at 60 MPH on the Interstate and less than that on 2 lane highways. I try to be courteous and pull off if traffic backs up behind me on the 2 laners. I have never seen a tandem tower pull over by the authorities. And always remember the golden rule of tandem towing: never, never, never... let yourself get into a situation where you have to back up. :E

RE: Bad experience with Seafoaming a generator...

Last summer I took my generator up to 8300 ft camping in Rocky Mt NP. I did not use a high altitude jet and really carboned up my jenny. Upon getting home I had to clean the spark arrestor on the muffler of soot. I put SeaFoam (using the correct proportion) into the gas tank. The engine sputtered and coughed and belched black smoke for about 10 minutes under 1/2 load. It then started to smooth out and the exhaust cleared up. SeaFoam did its job, and I believe it saved me from a more expensive trip to the small engine shop.
