RE: first thanksgiving camping

Just remember your recipes for anything you are making while at camp. Last year, I "thought" I had a pie recipe in the rv - wrong! I had to call my SIL, and apparently wrote something down incorrectly. It was the worst pie I've ever made! Everything else was good though, and we always have a great time (other than hitting a deer on the way last year).

RE: THE Best Banana Pudding Recipe Ever

That's the one I make, and I've never had any complaints! I'll have to try some of the extra flavor suggestions.

RE: Hard time selling rv

agiletiger, when my sil bought a 5er out of state, she had her bank wire transfer the money to the seller's bank. Everything was verified at the time, we just had to wait around for the confirmations. This seller did have the title, so upon confirmation of the funds transfer, paperwork got signed. But, the wire transfer might solve your apprehensions.

RE: Travel with dogs? Help!

...The trainer told me that if the dogs are laying at my feet and I want to get up, instead of stepping over them I should make them get up and out of my way. I haven't started on this one yet. Not quite sure how. What command is used for "get out of my way"? Neither understands "up" except when we are on the stairs. "Move" always worked with my dogs, and with my kids too!

RE: TT with rear kitchen

My Rear Kitchen model is 20 years old, we purchased it from my parents who bought it new. We have never had a problem and neither did they. No special packing or latches, no bars or cords. I doubt that we have shock absorbers, and if we do they are probably shot given the age of the unit! :)

RE: Nice Ice Cream recipe

Enjoying it so far, we've made 2 batches already. Strawberry this time, YUUMMM. So much easier than the other makers I have, that need the ice and salt. Wash this, and back in the freezer for the next time. And today, my Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Book came in from Amazon. Lots of good stuff in there!

RE: Lake Ray Roberts in Texas

We've stayed at the Johnson Branch side, nice park. My only suggestion is to make SURE you have directions to the correct park. I had seen the signs on I-35 for the State Park, and not realizing there's two different units, we took the exit at Sanger (I could find the park, just follow the signs). Wrong exit for the Johnson Branch! We had to stop for directions and ended up going around the main part of the lake I guess. The exit for the Johnson Branch is just south of Valley View.

RE: Nice Ice Cream recipe

After reading this post, I found the KICA locally and purchased. I had seen good reviews before, and two more here. We tried the recipe the OP posted (with peaches), and it was so good and easy! I'm looking forward to trying more recipes and love the maker.

RE: Rack for my skillets

Excellent idea, and as stated, could be used for so many other things too. The wheels are spinning!

I just turn "signatures" off, so I don't know what anyone has unless I click on their profile. :B

RE: Baked apples

The mention of the red hots sent me looking for a recipe... found quite a few, but these two sounded good. I'll have to make some this weekend! Baked Honey Orange Apples Orange juice and cinnamon red-hots give these baked apples unique flavor. * 2/3 cup honey * 3 tablespoons red cinnamon candies, red-hots * 2 tablespoons finely grated orange zest * 1 cup orange juice * whipped cream or whipped topping * 6 medium tart apples In a saucepan combine the honey, candies, orange peel, and orange juice. Bring to a boil and cook until candies are dissolved, stirring frequently. Peel and core the apples; arrange in an 8-inch baking dish. Pour the hot syrup over the apples. Bake uncovered at 350° for 1 hour, or until apples are tender, turning occasionally. Serves 6. Top each serving with some of the juice and whipped cream or topping. Cinnamon Candy Baked Apples Recipe * 1 cup sugar * 1/4 cup cinnamon candies * 1 cup water * 4 large baking apples * 2 teaspoons lemon juice * 1 teaspoon butter 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease small baking dish. 2. In small saucepan, combine sugar and cinnamon candies with water; boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat; simmer uncovered 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Pare top 1/3 of apples. Core apples, leaving bottom intact. 3. Brush apples with lemon juice; arrange in baking dish. Dot centers with butter; brush generously with sugar-and-cinnamon glaze. Bake, uncovered, 1 hour, brushing frequently with rest of glaze. Serve warm or cold.

RE: Benton Arkansas

I would recommend Dizzy's Grill & Bistro. Very good food, great atmosphere, easy to locate. We have been there a few times on special occasions, and it has always been a nice party. Not fancy, just fun and comfortable. Dizzy's Grill & Bistro

RE: Cleaning the grill with Aluminum Foil

We have the Weber Q 200, and have been doing the shiny side down foil thing for a year or so.... saw the suggestion here. Works great, and no damage to the grill.

RE: Possibly going F/T...work situation...your advice please!

Class B is a van conversion for the most part, very small living space when you are wanting to full time. Class C is the Cabover, smaller motor home, kinda like a truck camper on wheels. Again, can get pretty tight with 2 adults and 3 animals for full time use. Class A is the big motor homes. The toy hauler could be used to haul the bikes, and when set-up could become a workroom or store room. I know some carry a freezer there, some use the space as an enclosed patio, some use as a workroom. Pretty much "whatever". But, if you are towing the work trailer also, you might need the motor home to haul the work trailer and her car to trailer the bikes. ??? Some states allow double towing (5er and car) some do not. Truck, Toy Hauler, work trailer, car would definitely be a no go! :)

RE: Colorado Springs RV Codes

What is the code for temporary loading/unloading/cleaning? I believe that most locations have a 3 day rule, and you stated that it had been there about a week. Just wondering.

RE: kitchenaid stand mixer vs. other brands

I lusted after one for years, and like you, couldn't justify the cost for the amount of use.... Finally took the plunge and got one (Ice Blue) a few years ago. It's not the lift bowl that my son wanted me to get, but I love it anyway. I still don't use it enough to justify the purchase, but I wanted one for so long it doesn't matter to me. I look at it on my counter and just smile with enjoyment. As we have looked at new fivers, I always check the counter space for my Kitchenaid - that is one of my requirements, just in case we ever full time.

RE: Kielbasa

This one came from my mother, I think she cut it out of a magazine. We cook this alot, but I'll have to try these other ideas. Campfire Hash 2 Tbls Cooking Oil 1 Onion, chopped 2 cloves Garlic – minced 4 Lg Potatoes, peeled and cubed (can substitute frozen potatoes) 1 lb Kielbasa, cubed 1 can green chilies, chopped or diced 1 can (15 –16 oz) whole kernel corn, drained Heat oil and sauté onion and garlic. Add potatoes, cook uncovered for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add Kielbasa, cook and stir until potatoes are tender and well browned. Stir in chilies and corn, cook until heated through. (edit) Forgot to mention, it can be done in a Dutch Oven.

RE: Apple Crescent recipe for GailS

I have made this for years and its always great, but I always used Mountian Dew instead OJ. Will try with OJ next time. Jeff, If you make this with Mountain Dew, do you still add the sugar, butter, and cinammon?
