RE: Horizontal vs Vertical propane tank

Well I have two horizontal tanks in my 2006 Alpenjunk, one we discovered is leaking at the fitting where the gas level indicator goes. We removed the tank from the compartment and set it outside. My hearing and eyesight are failing so I could not hear it, but my son visiting over X-Mas could hear it. We soap bubble tested it and pinpointed the leak. Tank still has three or so gallons in it. I hooked it up to our barbecue in the vertical position and it works fine. Never tried a vertical tank in Horizontal position but Horizontal tanks in vertical position does work. I did not want to just blow three gallons to the wind. When empty we remove fitting and put some pipe dope on the threads and refill and leak test.

RE: Show me your wheel /tire combos on F250s

You throw a full size cab over camper on those examples and you will be walking home. Ask anybody who has a full size truck camper, those ratings are inaccurate. We went to the tire dealers to see which wheel mfgs made wheels that can "truley" handle the load. Nobody made them. That's why we had to turn to stockton.

RE: Show me your wheel /tire combos on F250s

I beg to differ! It says they are manufacturers, but in CHINA. Typical American company acting like their products are made here but they are not. They do not make an aluminum 16" wheel rated for 3400 or more lbs. especially at the width that the tire mfgs recommend.

RE: Show me your wheel /tire combos on F250s

Name them! We searched high and low for an aluminum wheel that could handle a cab over camper, and a 285 tire at an inch wider than stock. Had to have Stockton custom make them out of steel. Expensive also. Had a lot of tire trouble in the past before I learned (the hard way) to weigh the rig loaded for bear, then compare ratings and adjust as necessary. In my case, adjust as necessary was 285's with new steel wheels at the correct width and weight rating.

RE: Show me your wheel /tire combos on F250s

None of those tire and wheel combo pictures are rated to carry a cab over camper. Be aware of that, your stock wheels will. I had my new rear wheels made by Stockton wheels, I do not have a photo. But I upgraded my rears from 265/75 r 16s load e to 285/75 r16 (Goodyear silent armor pro grade)3750 max weight per tire on the Stockton wheels which are an inch wider than stock. Wheels made of steel, no one makes an aluminum in that size. Extra width recommended by GoodYear. Those pretty boy wheels are not rated for anything like a truck camper and will break.

RE: Insurance coverage and GVWR

Insurance companies have an underwriting period in which they can jump off the risk, usually 45 days. The only way they would not pay a claim is if there was "material misrepresentation" of the risk. For instance you say its for personal use and you were hauling goods for hire, etc. otherwise they are on it. They could how ever non-renew your policy if state law allows.

RE: Torklift Frame Mounted Tie Downs - Locks?

The locks I bought from Tork Lift are taiwanese junk. Buy a good lock that will fit through the holes.

RE: Lance camper cover

Calmark Sunbrella in Oxnard CA. is the best, they will have take specific measurements and custom make it for you. I have one and it is great. The adco covers last a season or two, maybe. I'm in Arizona.

RE: How long will propane last

If I use the a/c I'll be out of propane in 8 hours. Thats two 5 gallon cans. Not wise, a few minutes ok, but not designed to run the a/c for long periods.

RE: ALPENLITE CAMPERS ??

Had mine made in 05, it is a 2006 Cheyenne. They are out of business for a reason. I love the layout but the quality is lousy. Had numerous minor issues when we got it and during the warranty period. They had absolutely zero quality control. Lame asses!

RE: commercial insurance rates for F450

The companies will not knowingly insure a larger truck than 1 Ton. It's an issue with the amount of damage they will cause if you happened to rear end another vehicle. I am an insurance agent, we won't take f450s-550s unless commercial. I don't like it but it's been that way for a long time. There are a few that will take them, sorry I don't know who they are.
