RE: Generator Wars

Dan,
I don’t at least handy. The generator is buried in the back of the barn. I'm sure its Koler power but may have a different alternator/generator than I remember. I’m sure to be "in that deep" soon as the melt down is upon us and it will be time to get things started at the farm.

RE: Generator Wars

Love old blue! I have and old (gas) Koler powered ONAN from the 60's with pull start and a straight pipe. Used it a lot at the Harley drags, imagine that...nobody cared. Some loved it. Just too heavy any more so the Honda 2000 goes with me now. Looks pretty good next to the Harley! I thought Honda may come out with an Orange and Black model after the camo job but I’m still waiting. Anybody do a custom paint job on their Honda 2000 yet???

RE: Why the low F450 GVWR?

Early F450's had Dana 80 axles and 19.5 wheels and tires. My guess is that most people who buy f450 pickups tow trailers and 5th wheels. Most of which can be towed very well with the new set up. One other issue was ride quality with the old set up. You could have 5 ton Rockwell’s under there but with out the springs you don’t get the capacity. Take a look at the new spring pack and compare it to the old. It will then be clear.

RE: East vs West info for everyone

My biggest problem is someone in the fast lane, inside land, passing lane, whatever you call it that matches speed of the car to their right while talking on the phone and eating their meal or whatever. Just get over, or better yet pull over until you are done, then drive!
I seldom hit the Highway, I much prefer the Byway, but when I hit the Highway, I prefer your not in Myway!

Thanks,
I will be looking the camper over today. We are scheduled to go on the first trip since the New Year’s campout at the end of March.

RE: Front end tear down.

Have you narrowed down the area where the leak started? What year is your 1010? Opps, found the year in your profile:o
We have a 2001 1010 and will review the nose closely with the rest of the camper while in the barn before we start the year. Good luck and please post pictures.:)

RE: Shipping a TC

Where is it, you may get someone to bring it to you. Further, 650mi. is not that far to see in person before laying down the $. If it's right, bring it back.

RE: Green with envy TC'er needs help from Jeep crowd.

Well,
I got beat out on the Rubicon so I’m back in the hunt. I was so close to buying and a guy who had been looking before me sealed the deal 10 minutes before I got there. It was a 05 bone stock with 11,000 miles. Stored at the vacation home in the garage for use while there. It is a cheery! Me too late! Went for 18K. Back to looking for that Unlimited!

RE: Utility Trailer w/TC: To do or not? How, which, & what size?

Hello,
My current set up is a 7.5X14' enclosed cargo with 2 axles and brakes on both. Barn doors on the rear and a side door. I use a 30" solid steel 2X2 extension with weight distributing hitch. The truck and camper are in my profile. I have pulled this set up all over the country with 2 Harley dressers, tools, floor jack, spare tires, 55gallon drum of water, large boat coolers packed with sarsaparilla, and a couple arm loads of other stuff. We use aluminum ramps to run the bikes in on. The barn doors seem to be easier when using the trailer for other cargo type loads. If you pick the trailer you think will do and then get the next size bigger it will still be too small if your girl is like mine:W. The trailer has not really limited us except parking in the city. We always find a place but one must be willing to walk a ways sometimes. Most of the time we are in NFS or state parks as we typically prefer the road less traveled. We have no problem running with the truckers if we need to make some miles and have pulled this setup at 70 to 75 mph out west where any slower will have granny running over you even in the slow lane. No problems with sway or semi's passing. Beware, the extra space will cause you to collect stuff along the way too!

RE: Green with envy TC'er needs help from Jeep crowd.

A deal is in the works, I may be the owner of a 2005 Rubicon 6 speed very soon!
Also looking at an open trailer to tow the Jeep on. Those that tow on an open trailer, how long is your trailer? Any one carry motorcycles or quads with the Jeep? What size trailer?

RE: Free overn ighting in DC area

Look at Greenbelt NP, not far off 95. Not free but cheap, quite, open, sewer dump and water fill. I have stayed when passing through and rode out a hurricane there a couple years ago. Lots better than the truck stop buzz!

RE: Presidents day weekend

Yes, we will go out and start the skid steer to dig our way to the wood shed and haul firewood back to restock the basement firewood bin. (It holds about 2 cords!) Let it snow, let it snow let it snow already! 12 on the ground....12 on the way

RE: Snow Today!!!

Get ready Delmarva and points between! It started here about 4am, now about 6:45am and we have 1" new on top of the 10-14" from the last storm. NOAA is saying we'll get 8 to 12" by Wednesday afternoon. It's headed your way! I bet Assateaque is beautiful if you could get to it on one of the sunny days! Good luck!

1st 5th Wheel, Looking at 1994 Avion 34RK

It looks real good! One owner, very clean. Does not seem to be used much or ever lived in. Looking for info on inherent problems with this brand. Unit has 8 on 6.5 hubs and duel axles so I assume it is heavy! Any Avion owners out there to steer 1st timer in right direction?
On edit: It seems newer models in the late 90's and 2000’s are not much more $ than the older models. Have I uncovered a secret???? Are the older models that much better built to command higher prices?

Green with envy TC'er needs help from Jeep crowd.

I usually tow my HD (enclosed trailer) out west with me but after looking at trip reports from far and away I’m considering a used Jeep Rubicon for my next trip to the 4 corners. I've seen many here who tow open and closed behind the TC. I have many questions about 2005-6 Rubicon’s and towing. Any suggestions trailers open and closed??? Also what to look out for on those year Rubicons????? I really like a Rubicon Unlimited I found (the longer 2 door one). Any drawbacks to those besides the obvious????

RE: 6.0 L Ford engine

Bruce,
I love all that you said in your last post. Here the dealers that mess with people don’t sell many trucks. The ones that don’t do! Guess what, were losing dealers around here as is every where, a sort of natural selection process. Not the way I prefer but it is happening none the less.
BTW I bet you could right a great plan for the banks and the brokers to come clean too!
If you do, I'm with you on that one too!
