RE: Exterior cleaning - what to use?,.....

I used to detail RVs for a living. Get a good quality car wash (meguiars - walmart) and wash it with that. Then apply a good wax, I recommend carnuba (meguiars is good). If you have black streaks that are difficult to remove, try simple green. Works well. But as others have stated, it removes any wax that was there previously. Here is what mine looked like after I buffed it out (had some oxidation to remove): http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp269/ibtizi/Truck%20and%20Camper%20and%20Mods/IMG_1325.jpg http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp269/ibtizi/Truck%20and%20Camper%20and%20Mods/IMG_1326.jpg http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp269/ibtizi/Truck%20and%20Camper%20and%20Mods/IMG_1324.jpg

RE: Agressive cleaners

Started Cleaning the Coach Yesterday, I used "Scrubbing Bubbles" Bathroom Cleaner on the black streaks and was Amazed! Sprayed it on, and washed it off with a Waterfed Polebrush........... Effortless!

RE: Agressive cleaners

I cleaned mine yesterday, black streaks and all. On the stubborn black streaks, I used simple green. The black came right off.

Agressive cleaners

Now that the snow is thawing, I trying to clean up my C. There's a ton of black streaks and frankly the Gel cleaner I got at CW is not cleaning the fiberglass. I am looking for an agressive detergent that will not damage the fiberglass. I'd love some recommendations to try. Thanks, Jason

Looking for feedback

Have a friend looking for a Class C. Asked my opinion, as I've had TT and 5er's for years-motorhomes not so much. Wants to stay small, on a Ford chassis. Found a 99 Coachman 22' with 61000. V-10, E-350, 2 yr old awning, 4K gen, newer tires(but they did seem flat spotted). Exterior has the usual black streaks, but it does have a craccked stationary window. kbb-$11-14K. Guy wants 14, only willing to go to 13. Think it's worth it or would ya try to go with lower offer. Not sure about the chassis maint, either. Do these things follow a normal med duty truck schedule for service? (Trans, coolant etc....) Thanks for ant help.

Black Streak Removal products

I just a had a quick question about the use of those black streak removal products. They seems to really work well in removing blemishes and black streaks, but they also seem to fade, or yellow my fiberglass. Are they pretty corosive? I assume they probably remove any protective wax on the exterior too. Should I use it sparingly? It cleans real well, and when I am washing my motorhome, I get tempted to use the product all over the place.

RE: cleaning products

mynetdude, You missed the point I was trying to make. The dish soap has removed your wax. This will allow the black streaks to stick to the sides and not come off easily. When we bought our current TT, it was a leftover on the dealer lot. It was pretty nasty when we first looked at it. Black streaks, and very dirty outside. The dealer cleaned it up before we took delivery. They did a nice job but you could still see a faint outline of where the streaks were. Once I got it home, I compounded the streaks out, installed a set of Camco gutter extensions and waxed the h*ll out of it! The rig looked like it just left the showroom floor. I have yet to have ANY black streaks on the sides.... that was 4 years ago. I use Blue Coral car wash soap most of the time. My first winter cleaning is usually Simple Green and water, mixed STRONG! The entire rig cleans up easily and requires no scrubbing. Dish soap will remove wax in a heartbeat. When I was younger, I worked at a car detail shop. They kept dish soap there just to strip wax off cars! A lot of the jobs we did there required buffing. It was easier to buff the car with no wax on it. We washed it with dish soap, then buffed, then washed with car wash soap then polished and waxed. You could actually the water not fall off the car after washing with dish soap. It felt dull, no matter what condition the car itself was in. Dish soap will create unnecessary work on the outside of your TT. guess I am gonna have to have it waxed, there are portions of my rig that aren't waxed (but it was that way when I bought it).

Wow! TT and TV thru a Truck Wash

DW and I began our slow move from Florida to Pennsylvania yesterday. First stop after FL was Jekyll Island, GA. Shortly before our exit I saw a billboard that advertised RV washes at the Pilot truck stop. The advertised price was $25 to $35 dollars. We were early for our next stop, my rig needed a bath and it was our exit anyway so I figured why not? Cost me $37.50 with the tax but WOW, did they ever do a good job! They not only used spray wands, they used brushes as well! All the black streaks are gone, brake dust washed off the wheels and small details like the rear view mirrors were cleaned. Excellent job! This truck wash was at exit 29 off I-95 in Georgia and..... I am in no way affiliated with this business.

RE: cleaning products

Dish soap is my friend, I have been using it to clean the outside of the RV and it does well minus the few black streaks which I will need to work on this week while the weather is better.I would stop using dish soap on the outside. It strips all wax off your trailer too! That might be part of the problem with having to scrub black streaks too. Mine just wipe right off. nah the black streaks were already there, the dish soap has done a good job getting what I could get off. I can see dish soap being a problem as it contains chemicals that break down other chems. someone said to use auto wax and it'll come off (or use Awesome + magic Eraser)

RE: cleaning products

I have found that Windex (mixed with a bit of rubbing alcohol) and Magic Eraser cleans most things. I use Swiffer on the floor, and my normal dish soap. The fewer products you have to carry with you, the better. windex isn't a cleaning product FWIW, never tried magic eraser so I have been hearing that is a good one to get. I prefer to use minimal chemicals as possible and like you said the less I carry the better. Dish soap is my friend, I have been using it to clean the outside of the RV and it does well minus the few black streaks which I will need to work on this week while the weather is better. I also have a chemical called breakup, this is good for sanitizing NOT cleaning and if I keep things clean I can then keep things sanitized :). (breakup can also be used in your black tank).

RE: Removing black streaks & stains that soap won't get off?

Get yourself over to Dollar General and get a bottle of Mean Green. The stuff is great! It removes black streaks without all that hard work. A fellow camper put me onto it, and it works. Thought I'd share the information.

RE: Dry Cough , Crud , Stuffiness, and Nose Blowing

Hope you two start feeling better. Otherwise your 1,800 mile trip back north could be a tough one. For those that don't know the upper RGV, they have sugar cane field burns during the winter months (which I've never seen talked about in the forum.) My MH got more black streaks within that one month (January) that I was there then ever before. I often wonder if that doesn't put a (unaccustomed) persons respiratory system into duress, allowing the crud an easier target. I know when I left the upper valley for the lower RGV (Gulf area) my constant cough went away within days. Might have just ran it's course also. If there was a reaction to the "black snow" the Sudafed might have helped you. Whatever it is, Joey and I hope you two get better real soon.

RE: Removing black streaks & stains that soap won't get off?

Take your old toothbrush or your buddy's new toothbrush and some Simple Green and clean out the rain gutters on the RV. I found a build up of black sticky crud in the gutters. Toothbrush is perfect size to fit inside rain gutters. Clean gutters might go a long way at cutting down on black streaks. All RVs have gutters?

Here is complete solution for black streaks. Paint vehicle either Flat black or gloss black.:p With flat black you don't have to wax vehicle. With gloss black you will have to wax once in awhile. Either way black streaks not noticeable. :B The problem with black vehicles is they get.......white streaks :S well I noticed that after washing one side of my 5ver last week when I would squeegee the fiberglass I would see milky white coming off. there area areas of my 5ver that is losing its shine which is where the white milky stuff is coming from. That's just your rubber roof oxidizing and is normal from what I have read. Larry

Reliable spray cleaner for black streaks on RVs works like a charm. Spray on, wipe off. You can add it to your wash water too. It's made for the job and it works.
