I got my Sanyo 4900 and have the cable ordered. After that I am completely lost. Can someone hold my hand and lead me step by step on how to run this deal? I know nothing. Do I have to run their software? What is the dial something777 deal? I use AOL now, so I don't even know much about Internet Explorer--that's what I use right? As you can see I will need a bit of help, maybe someone that would e-mail direct. Thanks!!

Luke
I'll reply here so as to share the info.
We use the Sprint PCS plan to get online with our laptop when on the road. We have the Samsung N400 cell, the USB cable & Sprint software. All I do is connect the USB wire to the cell & the USB port in the laptop, & the laptop recognizes that the cell is it's wireless modem & we are online. You need no other ISP to go anywhere on the net. I understand that on your 4900 cell that you can't have your phone on charge & plugged to the puter at the same time ? Our 400 can be pluged in to the charger & laptop at the same time.
The speed is like a land line 56K modem & some times are slower.
As you probably know, you will not use your plan minutes while online with the PCS plan for $10.00 per month. Unlimited 24/7 useage !
Need more info ? Email me.
Later.

Thanks Bill and I got your e-mail. I haven't yet activated the phone or received the cable. So all of my stupid questions be be in a few days. I thought I read somewhere that I didn't need to use the software if you dialed something777. Anyone know anything about that? I really liked the Samsung 500, got the Sanyo because it was free. For an extra ten bucks, I can drop the service after a month, keep the phone and owe nothing--that's the way I understand it. So--also thought I read the phone can charge through the USB cable from the laptop--anyone know anything about that? Surely the phone will run for an hour or so without needing a charge.

Luke

I made the post on the 777 no and that is an internet dial up number for Verizon, I too connect mt laptop to my cell phone via a cable that is connected to my serial port, I then dial 777 and connect free of charge to the internet any where there is Verizon service.

I agree with WTFJR. I to use a sprint- samsung A400 with the laptop connection cable and the sprint software. Works great no complaints at all. Been using it for about 3 months now. I upgraded from Sprint's old (14400kb) internet service to this new 3g stuff. You will like it, I get better speed off of my sprint phone then I do dialup, but we have bad phone line's around here ,and for a extra $10 a month it hard to beat.

wtfjr...

Have you traveled outside your "home" area yet??Do you have to be in a Verizon home area to use it? Just asking for clarification of changing to Sprint/Verizon service from cingular.

Does the 24/7 still count? Do you pay roaming or long distance charges?

We have only used the PCS wireless modem connection in varrious areas of FL so far. But, it works where Sprint works - as I understand them.
Yes, 24/7 for the $10.00 PCS fee per month, with the first three months of PCS free. In addition to the $30.00 per month we pay for the 300 anytime minutes & unlimited nights & weekends.
PCS does not use any of your plan's minutes, day or night !!
I don't know about Verizon as we are on Sprint.
Hope this helps.

To use the Sprint Vision, which is the plan that allows for unlimited computer use, you need to be in a "Sprint Nationwide PCS Network" area. Look here http://sprintpcs.com/

To wtfjr and Donna, my thanks for all your help. I have bought the Samsung N400 and the Sprint service suggested. I'll post another later in the week to let you know my experiences.
