Have been looking at some expandable or light weight trailers. I have a Kiwi and a starcraft dealer near me. I would like to know if anyone has any experience with any or all of the expandable travel trailers that are on the market.

We had a Rockwood Roo, it was well made and we had no problems with it.

We have a Bantam hybrid (pops out at the ends, not up) by Trail-lite. Excellent IMO. Ditto the Shamrock by Forest River, but did not choose it over the Bantam because of local availability at the time and potential local warranty servicing (which was never needed!).

We own an Aero Cub C215 and it is a great, lightweight, well built trailer.
The Kiwis are very heavy as far as the expandables go so if weight is an issue I would look at other models.
When we were buying our hybrid last year we had it narrowed to a Starcraft 19CK and the Cub. We went with the Cub because we felt that the fit and finish were better and the decor was much more pleasing.
That being said. There are many makes and models and everyone is going to tell you that the one that they bought is the best. I don't know that anyone unit is far superior to any other so the best thing to do is decide on a floor plan that is right for you and your family and go from there.
If you are seriously looking at the expandables you might also want to check out the HybridRV group on Yahoo.

We are looking at the Travelstar 19CK. We have looked at the Kiwi,Trail-Lite, and the Travelstar. I believe all are quality trailer and I was impressed with everyone. Each line had a floorplan that we liked it just came down to which one we could safely tow and the Travelstar was the lightest.

Todd, mind if I ask you what you paid? The only dealer near me with Starcraft works like a car dealer. Hybrids are priced at $17-18,000. Its your job to get the price down to $11-13,000 like they should be.

Try a Rockwood by Forest River! We just traded in our 2001 bunkhouse Rockwood 8298S 31.5' lightweight travel trailer (weighed 4500lbs fully loaded and fully optioned)last week only because we now want a 5th wheel. (They also make shorter ones too and some that are 7' wide instead of the 8' like we had.) We will miss the roominess of our van since we now have to purchase a pickup truck. Anyway, in 2001 when we searched everywhere for a lightweight TT, we couldn't find a better quality lightweight travel trailer than Rockwood at that time. The nice woodwork, the slide-out sofa, the flexsteel cushions on the dinette and couch, and the quality bed matress were all selling points for us! The slide was easy to use and gave us a lot more room. The 2002 and 2003 don't slide out as far, but are still very nice. Have fun shopping! (Looking for just the right one is part of the fun--be sure to get to an RV show if there are still any going on!)

I can recommend Rockwood Roos (Shamrocks are pretty much the same), without hesitation. Good value, company stands behind its products.
