"Thumbs up" to Skyline products! I owned a '93 Nomad for 7 years and had no expense/problems other than routine maintenance. I see Skyline as "middle of the road" quality-wise - not high-end by any means, but solid and respectable. As far as TTs are concerned, I'm somewhat familiar with the Aljo, Layton, and Nomad brands. I'm not sure that there's a hierarchy there as far as quality is concerned, or if they're basically the same units with different brand names. Maybe someone else can help out if there is indeed a difference.

I have a good friend who recently bought a new Aljo Rampage 217 Toybox trailer. He is extremely satisfied. He likes to take his Quadrunners out and this was a great solution for him. He has 118 gallon fresh water tank and a 94" interior height (7' 8") so when the pull down sofas are up, he doesn't have to duck - and he' a 6 footer. He also has 60lbs propane capacity and a VERY roomy bathroom - all in a 23' trailer.

If his trailer is any indication of Aljo Quality, I'd say you would be happy with that product line.

We bought our first trailer, a Layton 290 or 2990(?) last spring. Of the three "brands' that Husker Jerry mentioned, only the Aljo is not carried around my area. The Layton and Nomad are identical except for fabrics and graphics. The catalogs are the same even use the similar numbering schemes. I was told the Aljo was also the same by several dealers. Having three brands is a marketing thing which allows you to have a dealers for "Skyline" closer to each other.
My belief is that these trailers are considered starters by some. We choose the model we bought primarily for the floor plan. The quality is good but don't expect the trailer to be perfect. If you are a detail person, it just isn't there. Like finger prints on the putty used to fill the staple holes! A little thinner on a paper towel cleaned it up.
Most of the real problems we have had have also been labor related. Like the grey water vent pipe was too deep into the tank. The tub/shower leaking behind the wall, no caulk. Drawers that open during travel. Most of these I fixed myself which gave me a good understanding of just what I had bought.
Design wise, its pretty good. Axels, tires, brakes, springs, are all at the high end for the rating of the trailer. You would be surprised at the number of trailers out there where the components used are marginal to reduce costs. Plumbing easy to get to but some lines were kinked which the dealer fixed. The appliances, hot water heater, jacks, ect are brand names.
Overall, I would say you get alot of value in a Skyline product. As with any trailer, be sure you get a good dealer. Saving 1 or 2 percent up front is a small consolation if you need their help. The cook top developed a chip in the porcelin the first trip out. I know the dealer felt it was my fault but he replaced it with out a comment. Later he told me that he started checking and found that other trailers had cracks in the same spot when they were delivered. But that is not a "Skyline" problem.
Gee, a little more than 2 cents worth.

Nomad, Aljo and Layton are all the same... just different names, colors and graphics. We owned a 1981 Aljo TT and loved it. Bought it from original owner in 1995 and just sold it. Nothing leaked and was in GREAT condition. Just purchased a new Layton 5ver and so far it's been great. Skyline is the only RV with the UL seal of approval.....

We have owned a 1999 Nomad going on 5 years now and it has been a very good rig...

As others have said, a lot of value for the dollar... Some minor fit and finish issues as others have commented on but no worse than most other rigs...

Would I buy another, yes, I would... Like I said, a lot of TT for the money and mine has been extremely dependable... Comfortable and still dry after 5 years and 15,000 miles later...

Best Regards,
Les

We bought a new Aljo 248EL last January. Have taken it out for over 5000 miles, lots of trips in it this past year. We have never had a problem, it has never been back to the dealer for any kind of repair. I think the fit and finish is great. Would recommend this trailer very highly. I think it is a great trailer and the price was right.

We traded our 22GQ Nash in last year for a 26ft Nomad. With a new "little one" we needed the additional space. Nash didn't have a floor plan that met our liking (Nash is a top notch product!) so started looking at other manufactures. I am sure that all manufacturers have thier good days and bad, but we sure found a lot of low quality units out there. Our Nomad is pretty heavy, but the fit and finish is very comparable to the nash. About the only complaint we have had is that the mattress was a lower quality. (the dealer let us trade it for our old one from the nash). My parents purchase a 01 Aljo, which replaced thier 78 Aljo. Thier 78 got more than its share of use. Outside of normal wear n tear (and a few nitpicky items), all 3 have been good trailers.

I keep reading all of these threads that consider Skyline, in particular the Nomad as an "entry level" product. I don't spend my hard earned dollars to impress people I spend those dollars on value. If most people would do the math when it comes to Total Cost of Ownership over the useful life of your trailer/5th wheel you will be hard pressed to find another product that compares to the Skyline Nomad.
