Our awning got chewed by a sign on a phone pole standing outside the curb. We cleared the pole to park but did not see the sign attached at awning level. It scraped a series of holes over 14 inches through 2 layers (roll outs) of vinyl. It is an A+E and the problem is on white vinyl. Ideas? Vinyl patch--where do you get it and what glue, would white duct tape hold up to winter weather? Help.....

You could try "Ducktap and white spray paint" Just kidding, I think that you are going to want to take it into a canvas shop and have them reapir it. It supports alot of wieght and movement with rain and wind. Should'nt cost to much have a pro takecare of it.

Eternabond tape is supposed to be wonderful for awning repair.
I haven't tried it personally, but they claim it works.

I had a small hole, about the size of a dime, in our patio awning. I hated to go the the expense of replacing the vinyl just because of this hole so I decided to try a repair. I had some extra Eternabond tape and decided to try a piece on the awning. This hole is located on the very end of the vinyl that is exposed even when the awning is rolled up. I placed the tape on the hole in April of this year and the patch is still secure and has done an excellent job in stopping the leak. If you have some Eternabond give it a try and I think you will be pleased with the results.

To repair ours from a similar problem I got some extra vinyl strips from the local dealer. He gave me some outdated material samples and I used the vinyl repair glue to put in on. Worked very well.

Recently, one of the boating mags, perhaps Sail, tested and found that a glued repair to a dacron sail glued with 3M 5200 was stronger than the material.

we had 7" tear in bedroom slide awning caused by high wind...I repaired by folding Eternabond around the tear and clamping the material down...it's holding well and looks good due to white on white...don't know how it would work in single thickness or with colored patio material.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences and suggestions. Since I do not have extra fabric to work with I will go out looking for the Eternabond tape. Where did you buy it? Could I find it at Lowes, Home Depot, Meijers? We have been camping since the day after I posted so I am seeing your replies today. Thanks again.

I purchased 2 rolls of Eternabond late last fall. The stuff is expesnive but does work as advertised. Back then a bunch of us from the forum found this website to offer the best price at that time.

I don't know if this is still the best price to be found. You probably just need a short piece.....too bad you will need to purchase a full roll. But if it extend the life of the awning its better than spending $800+ for a new awning.
