Karen--Thanks for the good wishes. The old man has an ear infection that's bothering him now and he needs all the love you can send him. I know he's terminal, but I love every day we can share.

Nedra--I picked a vet that I trust and I don't pretend to have his skills. We argued today about increasing Nikita's allergy meds, but I respect him and I will follow his advice for the next week, then we'll argue again.

I'm sure you can find the contents of Science Diet BD with a websearch. It's not a secret and you can analyze it easily if you have computer access. Vets are not the enemies of loving pet owners. a

all best--Kay

I attended a conference where the research on Brain Diet was explained. Impressive!

There is also a prescription medication, Anapryl, for Canine Cognitive Disorder, or doggie Alzheimer's.

Meither work for every dog, but if your vet thinks either or both are worth trying, I'd certainly go for it. A mind is a terrible thing to waste -- even if it is a dog's mind!

I just scanned the reply's and didn't see that Innova had been mentioned. My brother did alot of research on the best dog foods and he won't feed his dogs anything else. He got us hooked on it. Not only do their coats look shiny and healthy but our girls love it. You can compare the ingredients of Innova to many popular brands on their website, www.naturapet.com (Innova is made by Natura Pet Products)

I was wondering if you could help me..... I have been feeding my dog dad's for 5 years and my local stores quit carring that brand.. i need help! my dog is not happy with other brands and I was wondering if you could tell me if dad's is manufactured under a different name?? or a sister company to a bigger company?? I really need to find a store that carries the brand and maybe have it shipped to me if I cant drive to get it.. any info would be a blessing. Thanks !

Rescued a Samoyed with poor teeth and had a problem eating any kind of kibble. Vet suggested feeding her the same food we eat. "Dogs are not true conivors." My niece came up with a "Puppy MeatLoaf" recipe. Dogs teeth are fixed now but at the vets encouragement we continue to cook for the dog. She couldn't be happier and healthier. The stool is small as well.

5 cups Regular Ground Beef. (dogs need the fat) /or Ground Turkey /Chicken/ etc.
5 cups Mixed vegtables. (frozen bag type THAWED)
5 cups cooked Rice.
2 1/2 cup of milk or yoghurt.
4 eggs.
4 of slices of bread torn up.

Mix and put in 13x9 pan and cook at 350 for 1hr. - 1:15hr.

We cook these up, freeze in serving size and thaw as required. Bit of a pain but nothing is too good for the dog.

I have to agree with David-I breed, raise and show Yorkshire Terriers and as you all know if a Yorkie ain't got the coat they are not going to win or look good. I had a friend sugggest the Life's Abundance and have had my entire brood (including weaned puppies) on it now for 6 months and I see a remarkable difference! My older pet Yorkie Danny has some mild seizures (no cause can be found-no epilepsy, no liver shunt, etc-probably neurological disorder due to oxygen deprivation at birth) and at times they would get frequent (once every week) and since we switched to Life's Abundance he has not seized since. And my two show dogs have to the ground flowing coats-some of that is genetics but they are both from separate lines and both look like a million. And they all love it~and I love the fact it has no by-products in it. If you are not sure about by-products do an internet search for "rendering plants" and read some articles written about where some by-products come from. It is truly digusting and to think we feed this to our dogs! Life's Abundance comes right to your door and is fairly economical considering its advantages. From the bright eyes, shiny coats and pure terrier attitude and spunk I see in my dogs I would not feed anything else. David's post has the link to Healthy Pet.Net and go see their info and the comparisions. I think you will be impressed!

hmmm...I surprised and a little disappointed that Dr. Mike hasn't given his opionion on the food question.

We also feed our dog "Wellness" by Mother Hubbard. A holistic feed that uses only human grade food. We also give him the Mother Hubbard "milk bone type" of snacks. We don't feed him table scraps but every now and then he will get an apple or his favorite in the world is peas...cooked or raw, he doesn't care!

WE feed Solid Gold Hund 'n Flocken to our 2 Scotties. It's an all natural, human grade ingredient dog food. Dogs love it and we switched to it due to a lot of skin allergies. It has helped.

I feed my dog Eukanuba mixed with a boneless chicken thigh and a little broth. Otherwise she won't eat.
