We are looking at campin' in this area next June/July.
Can anyone give a me a heads up of what may be the best place to camp.
I just need some opinions. I have camped in the Townsend area 2 years ago. But I really never checked out this high traffic area and the CG's around here/there.
Thanks

Hey Randy,
We live a couple of hours away from Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge and make the trip on long week ends several times a year. The best campground we have found is the KOA in Pigeon Forge, the campgroung is beside of Patroit Park (City Park) and the main trolley terminal is part of the park. The park is in walking distance of the main drag down town and if you want to visit another part of town the trolley only cost twenty five cents to ride anywhere in town. We have spent several days at the campgroung and never had the need to moved our vehicle! The campground is clean and peaceful and the park has a walking path. I think you might enjoy your stay there.
Blessed are those that can give and never remember, take and never forget.

Is this KOA as they are called "Kampin' on Asphalt"
We are really looking for something that has it all. Something for the adults and there will be 4 kids under 12. How close to the main area of PF is it? Like a reference point of say the outlets on the main drag or Wears Road going over to Townsend, TN.
I like being able to ride the tolleys. And I know they go everywhere. I have stayed at the new KOA in Sunset Beach, NC twice this year and both times we had a good time swimming and going to the beach. But you have to drive to get there(beach) but it is still nice. This KOA is very well laid out and you are not on top of each other, plus the sites are all pull through. Is it like this or crowed on top of each other.
Thanks

Try Rivers Edge CG. They have web site, and 800 number.
Trolley comes right through CG. I usually do not camp in places like this. But with the grandkids demanding to go to the Red Neck Rivieria,I have to do it,and it is a good place if you go to PF.

Crazy Horse is very nice and has a free water slide for the kids abd has a nice pool. Sites are on the small side, so make sure you are perfectly clear as to what size rig you have. It's a bit of a drive to both Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge, but it's an easy route.

Compared to many in the area I think CrazyHorse sites are on the larger side. Admittedly, some are not long enough as you said but tell them what size your rig is and they will put in one the right one. You can figure on a 20 inute drive into gatlinburg from crazyHorse which is probably closer than driving in from townsend. I would stay there again because i like being farther out of town.
The KOA in Pigeon Forge is nice and right in the middle of things if thats what you want but sites are tiny and cramped.

Another vote for Crazy horse we stayed there this summer. Very nice CG. The water slide was great. Only one drawback, BEWARE OF THE ROOSTER! Other than the rooster crowing at the crack of dawn it was a great CG. The drive wasn't too bad and it was nice being a little further away from the city.
