We have a '97 Carriage 5th wheel that has been used about 300 days ( I keep a
log).
Recently the burner controls have started to stick when the burner being used
is on.It is very hard to get them closed until they cool a little, especially if
you are worried about something breaking.
I consider this a safety hazard as there is a good chance of fire.
Anyhow,I called Magic Chef last week and explained what the problem was.The
young lady recognised it immediately. She said these burner controls have a
special lubricant in them when new and thru time, this lubricant loses it's
effectiveness and the whole control assembly needs replaced.
She said there isn't any other solution and the customer must purchase new
controls.
Has anybody experienced this before?

I just checked online, and a Maytag burner control assembly is $24.14 each, plus shipping and installation(if you don't install it yourself).
That's $100 for something that I never have encountered on a household gas range

She's right. I have seen this many times on regular kitchen stoves over the years. I have cleaned and re-greased the valves but I would not suggest that you do it. It's much better for someone in-experienced to just replace the valves. All of them...

on my 1984 Jamboree MoHo I had the same thing happen.....I was able to take the valve apart and lubed them up with some Hi-Temp Bearing grease that I had laying around......I keep in contact with the puchaser of that Rig and they are still in use Today.........

I'm sure glad I didn't think to call Magic Chef!.....OUCH!!!

Hey,I've got some high temperature brake lubricant.Maybe, that'll work.
I'm sure not paying $100 for new controls that will need replaced after another years use.
I'm really surprised that Maytag/Magic Chef wants to risk a heck of a lawsuit over a safety hazard like this.
Nothing in the original owner's guide mentions this possibility!
Thanks for the replies!

A lot of companies cannot stay in business unless they sell parts and service after the initial purchase.......they plan it that way....

When that happened to me, I just called the company and they mailed me a new control, no questions asked. Might give it a try.

had that happen on a older trailer that I had, went to several rv dealers they said I needed new gas valves with the age of the stove they were not available, so I took them apart and they were all gummed up, cleaned them and got some stove valve grease and put on them, good as new again, took maybe a hour and a few cents of grease

I would NOT try using anything but the approved valve grease, which can be found, but you will have to look around a bit.
Standard grease is soluble in pretroleum products- which include LP gas.

If this was happening in any other industry there would be a recall and they would be fixing your stove for free. I've seen this in many three burner stoves. The right grease must be used. One fix for that problem is to put aluminum foil around the valves to deflect the heat. Especially in the front one. I've done that with mine.

Thanks to the posters who informed me that there IS a valve grease that is made for this purpose!
I'll check with the local outlet where I get my other appliance parts!
