Just a quick PS- you should really go to https://www.cpsc.gov/incident.html and report this. If enough people do, it could turn in to a recall.

If you can take your RV to the nearest L.P. gas service shop and tell them about your problem and they will lubricate the valves for you and I don't think they will charge you an arm and a leg either.
About using a non petroleum grease that is not correct, you can use a petroleum type grease because the gas is a vapor and not a liquid. I do use what is called "Valve Stem Grease".

manyplews: We had a Magic Chef in our Georgie Boy, same problem as you, spent $200. to have it repaired, lasted about 3 weeks. Now have a Winnebago Vectra with a Wedgewood stove, same problem....my personal cure for this one, take a stout yard stick, cut a slot in the end to fit over the knob. This gives enough purchase to turn the sticky valve.
