We are now full timing and want to upgrade our Georgie Boy 35 ft with one slide to a diesel pusher 40ft with 2 slides. We have looked at so many and cannot decide what is a good rig for our money. We will probably put our rig on a consignment lot and pay cash but looks like a 2000 model year will be what we will be looking for. We have looked at a Monaco Diplomat 40PBD and really like it but not sure what is best. ANy suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

I was looking at the 38' Fleetwood Excursion and Expidition. One had 3 slides, the other has 4. The larger one has a bigger engine too.
The smaller one has a $167,000 MSRP, but they are willing to sell one for $110,000. It only has the 5.9L engine, so we passed for now. In 6 years it might become our full time unit, but we might want a fifth wheel too. When over 32 feet, you should be buying a 8.3L Cummins or Catipiller with the 7.2L or larger engine.
I would keep looking for a quad slide - you will not regret it. Also try to get 30% off of the MSRP. You might only get 25% off, but it is worth asking for the money off- it will be your money spent if you don't ask for the discount. Why make the dealer rich?
Alpha also makes a nice 2 slide unit. The main slide is 4' deep, giving LOTS of space, and has 6' ceilings in the slide. Their unit is 39"11" long. www.alphaliesure.com
Good Luck, Fred.

I havn't been everywhere, but it's on my list.

Boy this should draw a host of opinions. I would recommend a Newmar product, but then again, I guess I would. There are many good makes out there which I'm sure you are quickly going to hear about. Prehap, though, you should'nt think of a year but rather a budget. You might find a '01 at the right price. Good luck.

It seems like newmar is a very popular choice for fulltimers. The dutch star is probably one of the best buys for the money. Lots of them available and at good prices. What ever you buy make sure you check it out front to back and top to bottom so you don't become one of the sad tales heard so many times on this forum. All of the lemons we are reading about are getting sold and traded, somewhere.

Might I suggest looking at Vogt in Ft Worth. They carry a variety of manufacturers with excellent prices. They are on Airport Freeway about a mile off I35W.

I currently have a 2002 two slide Endeavor dp that I think was reasonably priced however, a good friend just got his triple slide Diplomat (38') that would be hard to beat for full timing. It's truly amazing what the slideouts do for livablility relative to full time use. I would consider that third slideout option if possible.

If you are looking for a used unit you may want to look at Motorhome Specialist south of Ft. Worth. (www.motorhomespecialist.com). I bought my 1999 Pace Arrow from them and have been very happy. They only sell late model low milage non smoked in units.
