We are considering replacing our RV awning with one that will retract automatically if necessary while we are away from the RV.
I'm considering the A & E Weather Pro or Carefree of Colorado Single Step and have talked to several RVers with each of these. Every owner seems pleased with the one that they have, so it seems that either one would do the job.
I remember reading some negative posts here over a year ago, but can't find anything under search now.
Maybe you can help me decide which way to go (including just keeping the manual one we have now).
Thanks!

I have the Carefree automatic and it has worked without problems since
June of 2000, but I prefer the A&E Weather Pro because the arms are
higher when the awning is out, so no hitting your head.

The new Carefree Mirage looks interesting, much like a Girard but for
a bit less money. Once you've used an automatic awning, it's hard to
go back to a manual, IMO.

I have the Care-Free. It works, but I think the drive motor is undersized. Also, If your going to a powered awning remember your going to have to drill thru the sidewall. Another possible entry for the ultimate RV destructor, water!

Thanks Jeff and Robert for your replies.
I'm now leaning toward the Carefree awning for two reasons:
1. The wind sensor on Carefree is on the awning arm, not on roof, so one less chance of water leakage, and
2. The Carefree arms seem to hold the awning tighter, so there might be less flapping noise when it is extended.
But, I may still go with Weather Pro because the support arms are up out of the way when extended.
I also like the looks of the new Mirage (looks like a Girard). Worry about extra cost, weight, and no feedback yet from owners (since it is so new?).
Anyone else have opinions?

I have the weatherpro and am very happy with it. Also I have a 2003 Mirage 28RL and have been living in it for almost a year going on only a few thousand mile trips. So far we are very happy with it. Only had a few small problems.

We have the A&E weather pro... Very pleased with it the auto retract works as advertised.. Wished I could say that our brand selection was based on some hard core research.. We could have had either but in this instance just went with the dealer recommendation..
I prefer having the wind sensor on the roof so that there is no shielding effect from the coach when sensing the wind...
