I am new to RVs, I aquired a 75 Dodge Superior, 25', for the most part it is in good shape, but does need a lot of little things fixed, My question is, I just brought a use A & E 8500 awning, they replace the fabric, I noticed while they were removing the old fabric that it had a 1" wide strip in the middle, it appear to be a pull down strap,.. but they didn't put one back on,... is this needed, or do you just lower the ends one at a time,... I haven't installed it on my rv yet,... but was curious, since I have never use one of these before. And info on using this type of awning would be appricated... Thanks

yeah, you'll want them to put the pull strap back on. It's not only easier to lower the awning with it, but you'll want to hold onto it while the awning raises to keep it from slamming the side of your RV.

The strap is necessary, to pull down the awnig and to hold it when the awning retracts.

It is absolutely essential, it would be very difficult to manually unroll the awning without it and as was mentioned before, it is used to control the rewinding of the awning. You should have an L shaped tool with an eye at the end, which is used with the strap, since the strap will most likely, be too high to reach without it.

The strap is easy to install as it isn't part of the fabric. The tube has three slots, the fabric slides into one, the strap in another and the third is empty. It is possible to get the strap wraped up in the fabric so that the end isn't showing.

thunder231,

Yep just like big dave stated,, it is a seperate part from the fabric.

I think they cost about $7.00

If it is not there get one and get a rod for it as well.

Good Luck
