I just ripped the awning off of my RV. Hit a tree branch! Where is the best place to buy the replacement awning fabric from? And how hard is it to install?
I'm in Suwanee,GA.

From what I have seen at the RV service center I use, this is not a job for a novice. You can get hurt really bad fooling around with the spring loaded drum while trying to replace the fabric. Try your nearest RV dealer and see what they would charge. I would be interested to see what others have to say.

i replaced the awning fabric over the slideout. it was easy to do. use a big nail to keep the spring wound arms from tearing your fingers off. slide out the old awning from the motorhome and lay the new awning straight with the end of the tube, slide the old awning out and the new awning into the same slot. with two ladders the wife held the back end of the awning while i fed the new awning into the rail on the motorhome. the a-e awning was bought from the newmar dealer and it came with instructions, which have to be read before you start. there is a rivit or screw thar keeps the awning from sliding out of the rails.
good luck.

My son & I replaced my awning fabric with one I purchased from www.jcwhitney.com.
It wasn't hard but it helps to have a big space to work in because you've got to pull a 12 or more foot long piece of fabric into the roller and into the side of the RV.
At this point in my life I'd hire it out rather than do it alone.

You didn't say what brand awning, but I beleive Camping World also sells replacment fabric for A&E awnings. For Carefree or Girard I'd call them for local retailers.

Southland RV Service Center here in Buford,GA. said the replacement fabric for my A&E awning is $300, Also said they would install it for another $200, Might just go that route.

I've got to say- that's an outrageous price. Carefree sells replacement fabric for $199- any size- and replacement should take 2 hours, max- really more like 1 hour.

Camping world sells 2 grades of fabric: vinyl & acrylic. The acrylic is about 70-80% more expensive, and seems harder to maintain--but lasts longer. Which is the better value? Anybody had experience with both of these?
Also, Camping World quoted me $83 to install the replacement fabric.

The difference between vinyl and acrylic is highly subjective- I greatly prefer the acrylic, but I've had customers who had me remove acrylic and replace them with vinyl.
The acrylic is much more expensive simply because the fabric comes with the aluma-guard, and must be shipped by truck line (plus the cost of the aluminum). Once you have the aluminum, if ever needed, you can just replace the fabric. Replacing vinyl with acrylic is also much more difficult, because the aluminum must be held straight.
