We have a bit of horror story starting out on the RV adventure but all has ended well. Started with a class A in Jan'03-went to Florida to visit family & ended up w/a travel trailer in Jun'03. TT is definetely our style. We went to the Outerbanks on Hatteras Island KOA in Jul'03. 1st experience. Loved it. Then had to put it away becuase our boys are active in Marching Band & Football. That lasted from Aug thru Nov. Want to do more fun with the kids this summer & look for families who do the same. Any suggestions on when & what to do that is cosst effective for a family of 5. 2 adults & 3 boys, ages 9, 13, 16. Wondered if any one has camped at Old Man's Cave, Cedar Point or up on Lake Erie?

Sorry to hear about the shacky start in camping. We've been to King's Island a few times. Camped at the parks campground and ran the amusement park, taking the shuttle bus back to the campground for meals and snacks. Had a great time and with hte portable radios, the kids can go have fun at the park and you can relax at the trailer if you want. It's get a great water park attached that is included in the kings island admission. We got season passes two years in a row for Kings Island. Would do it again, possibly next year. I believe the park is listed in the Trailer Life Directory and AAA campground book.
If looking for other families to camp with, try the Good Sams club and look for a chapter that meets your needs and matches your interests. We joined a Good Sams chapter last year after being members in Good Sams for years. We really enjoy our time with our friends of Good Sams.

Old Man's Cave is a great place to camp. Lots of trails, etc. You might also like Deercreek State Park or Alum Creek. Lots of water activities.

We have a permanent site near Marblehead, but I highly recomend East Harbor State Park. You can call ahead to reserve a site. It is one of the best State parks in Ohio. There is a nice beach, although the water level was low last year. Cedar Point is nearby, several putt-putt parks and water parks for the kids. Put in bay is a great day trip or Kelly's island. Both have bikes or golf carts you can rent to get around, pack the cooler when you go, if your like us, we would rather spend our money doing things than on pricey food and drinks. The campground also has activites for the kids. My boys just wanted to go fishing and swimming. We tried to spend at least 2 weekends everymonth during the summer with our kids there, and most times we did not have to leave the park (unless it was a trip to Wallyworld). Please make sure to get a reservation unless your going early in the week. Holidays are really bad time to be there unless you enjoy the crowds- the up side is the fire works are great over the water.

We have camped in many state parks. Mohican is one of our favorites, down the creek on a tube is a ball with the kids (plus a swimming pool!). Cowan is darn near perfect as long as low flying jets every few minutes don't bother you at night. The lake is perfect for our canoe. We look for things that the boys can do and enjoy as well. Hoops, fishing, tennis, swimming, always biking, hiking, things like that. We take it all it seems! This Memorial Day weekend we will be at Paint Creek site 125. We will be at Dillan in mid May.
Have you looked at the new Ohio State Parks web site? It is one of the best we have seen, they really made it easy. You can plan ahead and not worry about showing up and hoping to get a site. All on the internet too! Early bird gets the worm, or the site they would like!
If you have not seen it, check it out! www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks. Hit "Pick A Park" and your off!
Late July or early Aug. we are planning a trip to West Virginia for camping and rafting on the New River. We have rafted before and had a great time, now we are adding camping-still checking into camp grounds there.
It's always nice to hear where folks are from, about camping and family, after all, the "togetherness" is why we choose this way to vacation and spend time.
Enjoy camping and maybe we will meet up. Let us know where you go and how you liked it. Have Fun!

Mohican, Hocking Hills, Amish Territory (around Berlin) all have quite a few things to do. Not too far away are the Smokies, Pigeon Forge etc.--lots to do there. Our favorite for years has been Myrtle Beach followed by Branson--a little more distance but reachable in one to two days. Our kids were in soccer and marching band too. It made the camping season much too short. Good luck and happy camping.
